Fornication and Adultery

What is fornication? In the Acts of Thomas it appears fornication is all sexual intercourse, even between spouses. Thomas recommended everyone to forego sex completely. The modern bibles agree we need to avoid fornication, but they do not define it. Maybe that is because they do not want us to know?

One of the most awesome lies satan ever came up with is the concept of pre-marital sex. In fact, nowadays there are christians who think it is okay to have pre-marital sex, because it is not prohibited in the bible. And it appears to me that, indeed, there is no prohibition against pre-marital sex. Why? Everything else is prohibited, why not pre-marital sex? The answer is simple. Yahweh, our Creator, defines what is what. He defines sex as marriage, and marriage as sex. When you have sex, you are married. There is no such thing as pre-marital sex, therefore it is not prohibited. How can you prohibit something that does not exist? The concept of pre-marital sex is a lie. Either you are a virgin, or you are married. If you are a virgin, and have sex with someone, then go and have sex with someone else, you are now committing adultery (sex outside of marriage).

Most christians say fornication is pre-marital sex. Scripture says sex is marriage, and modern society has some recognition of that fact. When a couple decides to marry, they are required to go to the court and get a marriage license. Then they go to the priest, and he says: I now pronounce you man and wife. You may kiss the bride. But they are not legally married yet. According to scripture, the court, human law, and the priest, you are not married until you have sex. We know that just before the second coming, everyone will be "marrying and giving in marriage", just like the days before the Flood. The man does the marrying, the woman gives herself up in marriage. This refers to what modern humans call "pre-marital sex", as well as to everyone committing adultery. These sins will be rampant when Yahshua returns. These sins are rampant now. He will return very soon.

The christians love their sexual immorality. So they hate the idea that sex is marriage. They want to think they can have sex and not be married, so they change the definition of the word 'fornication'. Website after website declares that the bible says nothing about pre-marital sex - therefore it is okay! They go so far as to claim that even sex with a prostitute is not a sin, as long as you have respect for the whore. You don't believe me? Then go to www.libchrist.com/bible/fornication.html.

So what is fornication? Adultery is when a married person has sex with someone other than their spouse (both of the sex partners are committing the adultery). So fornication is apparently something different. Is it masturbation? Now let's start by realizing that adultery and fornication are probably two different things:

Hebrews 13:4 Let marriage be had in honor among all, and let the bed be undefiled: for fornicators and adulterers Yahweh will judge.

Galatians 5:19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these: adultery, fornication, ... [here a list of sins is given]

Deuteronomy 22:22 If a man is found lying with a woman married to a husband, then they will both of them die, the man that lay with the woman, and the woman; so you will put away the evil from Israel. [adultery justifies death, but fornication only justifies divorce]

Matthew 5:32 but I say to you, everyone who puts away his wife, except for the cause of fornication, makes her an adulteress; and whosoever marries her when she is put away commits adultery.

Matthew 19:9 I say to you: Whosoever puts away his wife, except for fornication, and marries another, commits adultery; and he who marries her when she is put away commits adultery.

1 Corinthians 6:9 Or do you not know the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of Yahweh? Do not be deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with men, ... [sounds like fornication, adultery, and homosexuality are three different things]

When it comes to fornication, I have found three verses which hint at a definition:

1Corinthians 5:1 It is actually reported that there is fornication among you, and such fornication as is not even among the Gentiles, that one of you has his father's wife. [In this case, it is also adultery, as the woman is married; and it violates Leviticus 18:8]

Jude 1:7 Even as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities about them, having in like manner with these given themselves over to fornication and gone after strange flesh, are set forth as an example, suffering the punishment of eternal fire. [this is the verse which makes many think Sodom and Gomorrah died because of bestiality and homosexuality, and both are forms of fornication]

Yahchanan 8:41 You do the works of your father. They said to Him: We were not born of fornication, we have one Father, even Elohim. [it looks like fornication includes sex between man and woman, but since the verse compares satan the father of sin to Yahweh the Father of good, it could indicate that fornication is also idolatry.]

Proverbs 6:26 for a prostitute's fee is only a loaf of bread, but the wife of another stalks a man's very life. [this seems to indicate a prostitute is no big deal, while adultery is the end of your life. But you are now married to the prostitute.]

I notice the sex laws given in Leviticus 18 do not preclude sex between unmarried people (they also don't preclude having more than one wife or husband).

Proverbs 29:3 It is a foolish waste to spend money on prostitutes [this does not say or even hint that prostitutes are unlawful; however, check out:]

1Corinthians 6:15 You know that your bodies are parts of the body of Messiyah. Shall I take a part of Messiyah's body and make it part of the body of a prostitute? Never! 16 Or perhaps you don't know that the man who joins his body to a prostitute becomes physically one with her? For it is said: "The two will become one flesh."

And so we see that sex is marriage, even sex with a prostitute. Sexual contact, even if it does not include intercourse, is marriage! And what about if 1000 men masturbate to the image of a naked woman, did all 1001 of them just commit adultery?

Matthew 19:3 Some Pharisees came to Him and tried to trap Him by asking: Does our Law allow a man to divorce his wife for whatever reason he wishes? 4 Yahushua answered: Did you not read the scripture that says in the beginning the Creator made people male and female? 5 Yahweh said: For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and unite with his wife, and the two will become one.

The definition of adultery is clear, but it appears to me that the definition of fornication is not clear. We are told it means all forms of sexual immorality, including adultery. What also seems clear is that Yahweh defines sex between a man and a woman as marriage, and every time you have sex with someone else, that is adultery. So there is no such thing as 'pre-marital sex'. You are a virgin, or you are married.

You will find gobs of websites, etc, which declare that fornication is pre-marital sex. And you will find gobs of websites that declare that the bible makes no mention whatsoever about pre-marital sex. Sometimes it seems like the person's definition depends on whether the person is married! The married people seem jealous that the non-married can have sex with whoever they want, so they define it differently. The one's who are not married according to human law do not want to be called adulterers, so they define it the way which is convenient to their lifestyle. The Greek word which is translated as 'fornication' is 'porneia'. This is the word from which our 'pornography' is derived. Maybe that should be our next clue?

There is no such thing as pre-marital sex. When you have sex you are married, one flesh. Having sex with any other is adultery, unless you are marrying her also. Yes, there are some with wives. I think Yahweh wants us to have only one wife, the only person we ever have sex with. He only made one wife for Adam.

But it is even better to remain celibate. No fornication at all. In the Acts of Thomas it appears fornication is all sexual intercourse, even between spouses. Thomas recommended everyone to forego sex completely.
