Book of Haggai
The Book of Haggai
Chapter 1
1 In the second year of Darius the king, in the sixth month, in the first day of the month, the Word of Yahwah came by Haggai the prophet unto Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Yahudah, and to Yahushua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, saying:
2 Thus speaks Yahwah of hosts, saying: This people say: It is not the time for us to come, the time for Yahwah's house to be built.
3 Then the Word of Yahwah came by Haggai the prophet, saying:
4 Is it a time for you yourselves to dwell in your ceiled houses, while this house lies waste?
5 Now therefore thus says Yahwah of hosts: Consider your ways.
6 You sow much, and bring in little; you eat, but do not have enough; you drink, but you are not filled with drink; you clothe yourself, but there is none warm; and he who earns wages earns wages to put it into a bag with holes.
7 Thus says Yahwah of hosts: Consider your ways.
8 Go up to the mountain, bring wood, and build the house. I will take pleasure in it, and I will be glorified: says Yahwah.
9 You looked for much, and, lo, it came to little. When you brought it home, I blew upon it. Why: says Yahwah of hosts? Because of my house that lies waste, while you run every man to his own house.
10 Therefore the heavens withhold the dew for your sake, and the earth withholds its fruit.
11 I call for a drought upon the land, upon the mountains, upon the grain, upon the new wine, upon the oil, upon that which the ground brings forth, upon men, upon cattle, and upon all the labor of the hands.
12 Then Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Yahushua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, with all the remnant of the people, obeyed the voice of Yahwah their Father, and the words of Haggai the prophet, as Yahwah their Father sent him. The people feared before Yahwah.
13 Then Haggai Yahwah's messenger spoke Yahwah's message to the people, saying: I am with you; says Yahwah.
14 Yahwah stirred up the spirit of Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Yahudah, and the spirit of Yahushua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and the spirit of all the remnant of the people. They came and did work on the house of Yahwah of hosts, their Father,
15 in the four and twentieth day of the month, in the sixth month, in the second year of Darius the king.
1 In the seventh month, in the one and twentieth day of the month, the Word of Yahwah came by Haggai the prophet, saying:
2 Speak now to Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Yahudah, and to Yahushua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and to the remnant of the people, saying:
3 Who is left among you who saw this house in its former glory? How do you see it now? Is it not as nothing in your eyes?
4 Yet now be strong, O Zerubbabel: says Yahwah. Be strong, O Yahushua, son of Jehozadak, the high priest. Be strong, all you people of the land: says Yahwah; and work. For I am with you: says Yahwah of hosts;
5 according to the word I covenanted with you when you came out of Egypt, and my Spirit abode among you. Do not fear.
6 For this says Yahwah of hosts: Yet once, it is a little while, and I will shake the heavens, the earth, the sea, and the dry land.
7 I will shake all nations. The precious things of all nations will come, and I will fill this house with glory: says Yahwah of hosts.
8 The silver is mine, and the gold is mine: says Yahwah of hosts.
9 The latter glory of this house will be greater than the former: says Yahwah of hosts. In this place I will give peace: says Yahwah of hosts.
10 In the four and twentieth day of the ninth month, in the second year of Darius, the Word of Yahwah came by Haggai the prophet, saying:
11 Thus says Yahwah of hosts: Ask the priests now concerning the law, saying:
12 If one bear holy flesh in the skirt of his garment, and touch bread with his skirt, or pottage, or wine, or oil, or any food, will it become holy? The priests answered, and said: No.
13 Then Haggai said: If one who is unclean by reason of a dead body touch any of these, will it be unclean? The priests answered, and said: It will be unclean.
14 Then Haggai answered, and said: So is this people, and so is this nation before me: says Yahwah. So is every work of their hands, and that which they offer there is unclean.
15 I pray you, consider from this day and backward, before a stone was laid upon a stone in the temple of Yahwah.
16 Through all that time, when one came to a heap of twenty measures, there were but ten, when one came to the winevat to draw out fifty vessels, there were but twenty.
17 I smote you with blasting, with mildew, and with hail, in all the work of your hands, yet you did not turn to Me: says Yahwah.
18 Consider, I pray you, from this day and backward, from the four and twentieth day of the ninth month, since the day the foundation of Yahwah's temple was laid, consider it.
19 Is the seed yet in the barn? Yea, the vine, the fig-tree, the pomegranate, and the olive-tree have not brought forth. From this day I will bless you.
20 The Word of Yahwah came unto Haggai the second time in the four and twentieth day of the month, saying:
21 Speak to Zerubbabel, governor of Yahudah, saying; I will shake the heavens and the earth.
22 I will overthrow the throne of kingdoms, I will destroy the strength of the kingdoms of the nations, I will overthrow the chariots, and those who ride in them. The horses and their riders will come down, every one by the sword of his brother.
23 In that day: says Yahwah of hosts; I will take you, O Zerubbabel, my servant, the son of Shealtiel. I will make you as a signet: says Yahwah. For I chose you: says Yahwah of hosts.
