The Book of Yahushua

     The Book of Yahshua [Joshua]:

Chapter 1

1 Now it came to pass after the death of Moshe [Moses] the servant of Yahwah [YHWH], that Yahwah spoke to Yahushua [Joshua] the son of Nun, Moshe's minister, saying:

2 Moshe my servant is dead. Now arise, go over this Yordan [Jordan River], you, and all this people, to the land I give to them, even to the children of Yisrayah [Israel].

3 I give you every place the sole of your foot will tread upon, as I spoke to Moshe.

4 From the wilderness, and this Lebanon, even to the great river, the river Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and to the great sea toward the going down of the sun, will be your border.

5 There will not be any man able to stand before you all the days of your life. As I was with Moshe, so I will be with you. I will not fail you, nor forget you.

6 Be strong, and of good courage, for you will cause this people to inherit the land I swore to their fathers to give them.

7 Only be strong, and very courageous to observe to do according to all the law and instruction, which Moshe my servant commanded you. Do not turn from it to the right hand, or to the left, that you may have good success where ever you go.

8 This book of the law and instruction will not depart out of your mouth. Meditate on it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.

9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong, and of good courage. Do not be frightened, nor be dismayed, for Yahwah your Father is with you where ever you go.

10 Yahushua commanded the officers of the people, saying:

11 Pass through the midst of the camp, and command the people. Say: Prepare victuals. Within three days you are to pass over this Yordan, to go in to possess the land Yahwah your Father gives you to possess it.

12 Yahushua spoke to the Reubenites, to the Gadites, and to half of the tribe of Manasseh, saying:

13 Remember the word Moshe the servant of Yahwah commanded you, saying: Yahwah your Father gives you rest, and will give you this land.

14 Your wives, your little ones, and your cattle, will abide in the land Moshe gave you beyond the Yordan. But you will pass over armed before your brothers, all the mighty men of valor, and will help them until Yahwah has given your brothers rest, as He gave you, and they also possess the land Yahwah your Father gives them.

15 Then you will return to the land of your possession and possess it, which Moshe the servant of Yahwah gave you beyond the Yordan toward the sunrising.

16 They answered Yahushua, saying: We will do all you command us, and we will go where ever you send us.

17 According as we hearkened to Moshe in all things, so we will hearken to you. Only Yahwah your Father be with you, as He was with Moshe.

18 Whosoever he is that rebels against your commandment, and will not hearken to your words in all you command him, he will be put to death. Only be strong, and of good courage.

Chapter 2

1 Yahushua the son of Nun secretly sent out of Shittim two men as spies, saying: Go, view the land, and Yeriho [Jericho]. They went, came into the house of a harlot whose name was Rahab, and hid there.

2 It was told the king of Yeriho, saying: Behold, men came in here tonight of the children of Yisrayah to search out the land.

3 The king of Yeriho sent to Rahab, saying: Bring forth the men that are come to you, that are entered into your house. They are come to search out all the land.

4 The woman took the two men, and hid them. She said: Yea, the men came to me, but I did not know where they were from.

5 It came to pass about the time of the shutting of the gate, when it was dark, that the men went out. I do not know where the men went. Pursue after them quickly, for you will overtake them.

6 But she had brought them up to the roof, and hid them with the stalks of flax, which she laid in order upon the roof.

7 The men pursued after them the way to the Yordan to the fords. As soon as those who pursued after them were gone out, they shut the gate.

8 Before they were laid down, she came up to them upon the roof,

9 and she said to the men: I know Yahwah gave you the land. The fear of you is fallen upon us, and all the inhabitants of the land melt away before you.

10 We heard how Yahwah dried up the water of the Red Sea before you, when you came out of Egypt. And what you did to the two kings of the Amorites that were beyond the Yordan, to Sihon and to Og, whom you utterly destroyed.

11 Our hearts melted as soon as we heard it, neither did there remain any more spirit in any man because of you. Yahwah your Father, He is Master in heaven above, and on earth beneath.

12 Now I pray you, swear to me by Yahwah, since I dealt kindly with you, that you also will deal kindly with my father's house, and give me a true token.

13 That you will save my father alive, and my mother, my brothers, my sisters, all they have, and will deliver our lives from death.

14 The men said to her: Our life for yours, if you not utter this our business. It will be, when Yahwah gives us the land, we will deal kindly and truly with you.

15 She let them down by a cord through the window, for her house was upon the side of the wall, and she dwelt upon the wall.

16 She said to them: Get to the mountain, unless the pursuers light upon you. Hide yourselves there three days, until the pursuers return. Afterward you may go your way.

17 The men said to her: We will be guiltless of this your oath you made us to swear.

18 Behold, when we come into the land, you will bind this line of scarlet thread in the window you let us down by. Gather your father, your mother, your brothers, and all your father's household to you into the house.

19 It will be that whosoever will go out of the doors of your house into the street, his blood is upon his head, and we will be guiltless. Whosoever is with you in the house, his blood is on our head, if any hand is upon him.

20 But if you utter this our business, then we will be guiltless of your oath you made us to swear.

21 She said: According to your words, so be it. She sent them away, and they departed. She bound the scarlet line in the window.

22 They went, came to the mountain, and abode there three days, until the pursuers were returned. The pursuers searched for them throughout all the way, but did not find them.

23 Then the two men returned, descended from the mountain, passed over, and came to Yahushua the son of Nun. They told him all that had befallen them.

24 They said to Yahushua: Truly Yahwah has delivered all the land into our hands. Moreover all the inhabitants of the land melt away before us.

Chapter 3

1 Yahushua rose up early in the morning. They removed from Shittim, and came to the Yordan, he and all the children of Yisrayah. They lodged there before they passed over.

2 It came to pass after three days, the officers went through the midst of the camp.

3 They commanded the people, saying: When you see the ark of the covenant of Yahwah your Father, and the priests the Levites bearing it, then you will remove from your place, and go after it.

4 Yet there will be a space between you and it, about two thousand cubits by measure. Do not come near to it, that you may know the way by which you must go, for you have not passed this way before.

5 Yahushua said to the people: Sanctify yourselves, for tomorrow Yahwah will do wonders among you.

6 Yahushua spoke to the priests, saying: Take up the ark of the covenant, and pass over before the people. They took up the ark of the covenant, and went before the people.

7 Yahwah said to Yahushua: Today I will begin to magnify you in the sight of all Yisrayah, that they may know, that as I was with Moshe, so I will be with you.

8 You will command the priests who bear the ark of the covenant, saying: When you are come to the brink of the waters of the Yordan, you will stand still in the Yordan.

9 Yahushua said to the children of Yisrayah: Come here, and hear the words of Yahwah your Father.

10 Yahushua said: By this you know the living Father is among you. He will without fail drive out from before you the Canaanite, the Hittite, the Hivite, the Perizzite, the Girgashite, the Amorite, and the Jebusite.

11 Behold, the ark of the covenant of the Creator of all the earth passes over before you into the Yordan.

12 Now take twelve men out of the tribes of Yisrayah, for every tribe a man.

13 It will come to pass, when the soles of the feet of the priests that bear the ark of Yahwah (the Creator of all the earth) will rest in the waters of the Yordan, the waters of the Yordan will be cut off, even the waters that come down from above. They will stand in one heap.

14 It came to pass, the people removed from their tents, to pass over the Yordan. The priests who bore the ark of the covenant were before the people.

15 When those who bore the ark were come to the Yordan, the feet of the priests who bore the ark were dipped in the brink of the water (the Yordan overflows all its banks all the time of harvest).

16 The waters which came down from above stood, and rose up in one heap, a great way off, at Adam, the city that is beside Zarethan. Those who went down toward the sea of the Arabah, even the Salt Sea, were wholly cut off. The people passed over right against Yeriho.

17 The priests who bore the ark of the covenant of Yahwah stood firm on dry ground in the midst of the Yordan. All Yisrayah passed over on dry ground, until all the nation was passed dry over the Yordan.

Chapter 4

1 It came to pass when all the nation was completely passed over the Yordan, Yahwah spoke to Yahushua, saying:

2 Take twelve men out of the people, out of every tribe a man.

3 Command them, saying: Take twelve stones from out of the middle of the Yordan, out of the place where the priests' feet stand firm, carry them over with you, and lay them down in the lodging-place where you lodge tonight.

4 Yahushua called the twelve men, whom he prepared of the children of Yisrayah, out of every tribe a man.

5 Yahushua said to them: Pass over before the ark of Yahwah your Father into the middle of the Yordan, and take up every man of you a stone upon his shoulder, according to the number of the tribes of the children of Yisrayah.

6 This is a sign among you, that, when your children ask in time to come, saying: What do you mean by these stones?

7 Then you will say to them: Because the waters of the Yordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of Yahwah. When it passed over the Yordan, the waters of the Yordan were cut off. These stones will be for a memorial to the children of Yisrayah for ever.

8 The children of Yisrayah did so as Yahushua commanded, and took up twelve stones out of the middle of the Yordan, as Yahwah spoke to Yahushua, according to the number of the tribes of the children of Yisrayah. They carried them over with them to the place where they lodged, and laid them down there.

9 Yahushua set up twelve [other] stones in the middle of the Yordan, in the place where the feet of the priests who bore the ark of the covenant stood. They are there to this day.

10 The priests who bore the ark stood in the middle of the Yordan until everything was finished that Yahwah commanded Yahushua to speak to the people, according to all Moshe commanded Yahushua. The people hurried, and passed over.

11 It came to pass, when all the people were completely passed over, the ark of Yahwah passed over, and the priests, in the presence of the people.

12 The children of Reuben, the children of Gad, and half of the tribe of Manasseh, passed over armed before the children of Yisrayah, as Moshe spoke to them.

13 About forty thousand ready armed for war passed over before Yahwah to battle, to the plains of Yeriho.

14 On that day Yahwah magnified Yahushua in the sight of all Yisrayah. They feared him all the days of his life, as they feared Moshe.

15 Yahwah spoke to Yahushua, saying:

16 Command the priests who bear the ark of the testimony that they come up out of the Yordan.

17 Yahushua therefore commanded the priests, saying: Come up out of the Yordan.

18 It came to pass when the priests who bore the ark of the covenant of Yahwah were come up out of the midst of the Yordan, and the soles of the priests' feet were lifted up to the dry ground, the waters of the Yordan returned to their place, and went over all its banks as before.

19 The people came up out of the Yordan on the tenth day of the first month, and camped in Gilgal, on the east border of Yeriho.

20 In Gilgal Yahushua set up those twelve stones they took out of the Yordan.

21 He spoke to the children of Yisrayah, saying: When your children ask their fathers in time to come, saying; What do these stones mean?

22 Then you will let your children know, saying: Yisrayah came over this Yordan on dry land.

23 Yahwah your Father dried up the waters of the Yordan from before you, until you were passed over, as Yahwah your Father did to the Red Sea, which He dried up from before us, until we were passed over.

24 All the peoples of the earth may know the Hand of Yahwah, that it is mighty, that you may fear Yahwah your Father for ever.

Chapter 5

1 It came to pass, when all the kings of the Amorites that were beyond the Yordan westward, and all the kings of the Canaanites that were by the sea, heard how Yahwah dried up the waters of the Yordan from before the children of Yisrayah, until we were passed over, their heart melted. Neither was there spirit in them any more, because of the children of Yisrayah.

2 At that time Yahwah said to Yahushua: Make knives of flint, and circumcise again the children of Yisrayah the second time.

3 Yahushua made knives of flint, and circumcised the children of Yisrayah at the hill of the foreskins.

4 This is the reason why Yahushua did circumcise. All the people that came forth out of Egypt, that were males, even all the men of war, died in the wilderness by the way, after they came forth out of Egypt.

5 All the people that came out were circumcised. But they did not circumcise all the people who were born in the wilderness by the way, as they came forth out of Egypt.

6 The children of Yisrayah walked forty years in the wilderness, till all the nation, even the men of war that came forth out of Egypt, were consumed. They did not hearken to the voice of Yahwah, to whom Yahwah swore He would not let them see the land Yahwah swore to their fathers that He would give us (a land flowing with milk and honey).

7 Their children, whom He raised up in their stead, those Yahushua circumcised. They were uncircumcised, because they did not circumcise them by the way.

8 It came to pass when they were done circumcising all the nation, they abode in their places in the camp till they were whole.

9 Yahwah said to Yahushua: Today I roll away the reproach of Egypt from off you. So the name of that place was called Gilgal, to this day.

10 The children of Yisrayah camped in Gilgal. They kept the passover on the fourteenth day of the month at even in the plains of Yeriho.

11 They ate of the produce of the land the day after the passover, unleavened cakes and parched grain, in the same day.

12 The manna ceased the next day, after they ate of the produce of the land. Neither had the children of Yisrayah manna any more, but they ate of the fruit of the land of Canaan that year.

13 It came to pass when Yahushua was by Yeriho, he lifted up his eyes, and looked. Behold, there stood a man opposite him, with his sword drawn in his hand. Yahushua went to him, and said to him: Are you for us, or for our adversaries?

14 He said: Nay. I come as Prince of the host of Yahwah. Yahushua fell on his face to the earth, worshipped, and said to him: What says my Father to His servant?

15 The prince of Yahwah's host said to Yahushua: Put off your shoe from off your foot, for the place where you stand is holy. Yahushua did so.

Chapter 6

1 Now Yeriho was straitly shut up because of the children of Yisrayah. None went out, and none came in.

2 Yahwah said to Yahushua: See, I give Yeriho into your hand, with the king of it, and the mighty men of valor.

3 You will compass the city, all the men of war, going about the city once. Thus you will do six days.

4 Seven priests will bear seven trumpets of rams' horns before the ark. The seventh day you will compass the city seven times, and the priests will blow the trumpets.

5 It will be, when they make a long blast with the ram's horn, and when you hear the sound of the trumpet, all the people will shout with a great shout. The wall of the city will fall down flat, and the people will go up every man straight before him.

6 Yahushua the son of Nun called the priests, and said to them: Take up the ark of the covenant, and let seven priests bear seven trumpets of rams' horns before the ark of Yahwah.

7 They said to the people: Pass on, march around the city, and let the armed men pass on before the ark of Yahwah.

8 It was so, when Yahushua spoke to the people, the seven priests bearing the seven trumpets of rams' horns passed on before Yahwah, and blew the trumpets. The ark of the covenant of Yahwah followed them.

9 The armed men went before the priests that blew the trumpets, and the rearward went after the ark, the priests blowing the trumpets as they went.

10 Yahushua commanded the people, saying: You will not shout, nor let your voice be heard. Neither will any word proceed out of your mouth until the day I bid you shout. Then you will shout.

11 So he caused the ark of Yahwah to compass the city, going about it once. They came into the camp, and lodged in the camp.

12 Yahushua rose early in the morning, and the priests took up the ark of Yahwah.

13 The seven priests bearing the seven trumpets of rams' horns before the ark of Yahwah went on continually, blew the trumpets, and the armed men went before them. The rearward came after the ark of Yahwah, the priests blowing the trumpets as they went.

14 The second day they compassed the city once, and returned into the camp. So they did six days.

15 It came to pass on the seventh day they rose early at the dawning of the day, and compassed the city after the same manner seven times. Only on that day they compassed the city seven times.

16 It came to pass at the seventh time, when the priests blew the trumpets, Yahushua said to the people: Shout! Yahwah gives you the city.

(17 The city is devoted, even it, and all that is in it, to Yahwah. Only Rahab the harlot will live, she, and all who are with her in the house, because she hid the messengers we sent.

18 But as for you, only keep yourselves from the devoted thing, unless when you have devoted it, you take of the devoted thing. So you would make the camp of Yisrayah accursed, and trouble it.

19 All the silver, gold, and vessels of bronze and iron, are holy to Yahwah. They will come into the treasury of Yahwah.)

20 So the people shouted, and the priests blew the trumpets. It came to pass when the people heard the sound of the trumpet, the people shouted with a great shout. The wall fell down flat. The people went up into the city, every man straight before him, and they took the city.

21 They utterly destroyed all that was in the city with the edge of the sword, both man and woman, both young and old, ox, sheep, and ass.

22 Yahushua said to the two men who had spied out the land: Go into the harlot's house. Bring the woman out from there, and all she has, as you swore to her.

23 The young men the spies went in, and brought out Rahab, her father, her mother, her brothers, and all she had. All her kindred they also brought out, and they set them outside the camp of Yisrayah.

24 They burnt the city with fire, and all that was in it. Only the silver, the gold, and the vessels of bronze and of iron, they put into the treasury of the house of Yahwah.

25 Yahushua saved alive Rahab the harlot, her father's household, and all she had. She dwelt in the midst of Yisrayah to this day, because she hid the messengers Yahushua sent to spy out Yeriho.

26 Yahushua charged them with an oath at that time, saying: Cursed before Yahwah is the man who rises up and builds this city Yeriho. He will lay the foundation with the loss of his first-born, and he will set up the gates of it with the loss of his youngest son [1Kings 16:34].

27 So Yahwah was with Yahushua, and his fame was in all the land.

Chapter 7

1 But the children of Yisrayah committed a trespass in the devoted thing. Achan, the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Yahudah [Judah], took of the devoted thing. The anger of Yahwah was kindled against the children of Yisrayah.

2 Yahushua sent men from Yeriho to Ai, which is beside Bethaven, on the east side of Beth-el, and spoke to them, saying: Go up, spy out the land. The men went up, and spied out Ai.

3 They returned to Yahushua, and said to him: Do not make all the people go up, but let about two or three thousand men go up and smite Ai. Do not make all the people to toil there, for they are but few.

4 So there went up there of the people about three thousand men. And they fled before the men of Ai.

5 The men of Ai smote of them about thirty and six men. They chased them from before the gate even to Shebarim, and smote them at the descent. The hearts of the people melted, and became as water.

6 Yahushua tore his clothes, and fell to the earth upon his face before the ark of Yahwah until the evening, he and the elders of Yisrayah, and they put dust upon their heads.

7 Yahushua said: Alas, O Father Yahwah, why did you at all bring this people over the Yordan, to deliver us into the hand of the Amorites, to cause us to perish? Would that we were content, and dwelt beyond the Yordan!

8 Oh, Yahwah, what will I say, after Yisrayah turned their backs before their enemies!

9 The Canaanites and all the inhabitants of the land will hear of it, will surround us, and cut off our name from the earth. What will you do for your great Name?

10 Yahwah said to Yahushua: Get up. Why are you fallen upon your face?

11 Yisrayah sinned. Yea, they even transgressed my covenant I commanded them. Yea, they even took of the devoted thing, and also stolen, and dissembled. They even put it among their own stuff.

12 Therefore the children of Yisrayah cannot stand before their enemies. They turn their backs before their enemies because they are become accursed. I will not be with you any more, except you destroy the devoted thing from among you.

13 Up, sanctify the people, and say: Sanctify yourselves against tomorrow. For thus says Yahwah, the Father of Yisrayah: There is a devoted thing in the midst of you, O Yisrayah. You can not stand before your enemies until you take away the devoted thing from among you.

14 In the morning you will be brought near by your tribes. It will be the tribe Yahwah takes will come near by families, and the family Yahwah takes will come near by households, and the household Yahwah takes will come near man by man.

15 It will be that he who is taken with the devoted thing will be burnt with fire. He, and all he has, because he transgressed the covenant of Yahwah, and because he wrought folly in Yisrayah.

16 So Yahushua rose up early in the morning, and brought Yisrayah near by their tribes. The tribe of Yahudah was taken.

17 He brought near the family of Yahudah, and He took the family of the Zerahites. He brought near the family of the Zerahites man by man, and Zabdi was taken.

18 He brought near his household man by man. Achan, the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Yahudah, was taken.

19 Yahushua said to Achan: My son, I pray you, give glory to Yahwah, the Father of Yisrayah, and make confession to Him. Tell me now what you did, do not hide it from me.

20 Achan answered Yahushua, and said: Of a truth I sinned against Yahwah, the Father of Yisrayah, and thus and thus I did.

21 I saw among the spoil a goodly Babylonish mantle, two hundred shekels of silver, and a wedge of gold of fifty shekels weight. I coveted them, and took them. Behold, they are hid in the earth in the middle of my tent, and the silver under it.

22 So Yahushua sent messengers, and they ran to the tent. Behold, it was hid in his tent, and the silver under it.

23 They took them from the midst of the tent, brought them to Yahushua, and to all the children of Yisrayah. They laid them down before Yahwah.

24 Yahushua, and all Yisrayah with him, took Achan the son of Zerah, the silver, the mantle, the wedge of gold, his sons, his daughters, his oxen, his asses, his sheep, his tent, and all he had. They brought them up to the valley of Achor.

25 Yahushua said: Why did you trouble us? Yahwah will trouble you today. All Yisrayah stoned him with stones. They burned them with fire, and stoned them with stones.

26 They raised over him a great heap of stones, to this day. Yahwah turned from the fierceness of His anger. So the name of that place was called The Valley of Achor to this day.

Chapter 8

1 Yahwah said to Yahushua: Do not fear, neither be dismayed. Take all the people of war with you, and arise, go up to Ai. See, I give the king of Ai into your hand, with his people, his city, and his land.

2 You will do to Ai and her king as you did to Yeriho and her king. Only the spoil, and the cattle, you will take for a prey to yourselves. Set an ambush for the city behind it.

3 So Yahushua arose, and all the people of war, to go up to Ai. Yahushua chose out thirty thousand men, the mighty men of valor, and sent them forth by night.

4 He commanded them, saying: Behold, lie in ambush against the city, behind the city. Go not very far from the city, but be you all ready.

5 I, and all the people that are with me, will approach to the city. It will come to pass when they come out against us, as at the first, that we will flee before them.

6 They will come out after us, till we draw them away from the city. For they will say: They flee before us, as at the first. So we will flee before them.

7 You will rise up from the ambush, and take possession of the city, for Yahwah your Father will deliver it into your hand.

8 It will be when you seize upon the city, set the city on fire. According to the word of Yahwah you will do. See, I commanded you.

9 Yahushua sent them forth. They went to the ambushment, and abode between Beth-el and Ai, on the west side of Ai. But Yahushua lodged that night among the people.

10 Yahushua arose up early in the morning, mustered the people, and went up, he and the elders of Yisrayah, before the people to Ai.

11 All the people, even the men of war that were with him, went up, drew near, came before the city, and camped on the north side of Ai. Now there was a valley between him and Ai.

12 He took about five thousand men, and set them in ambush between Beth-el and Ai, on the west side of the city.

13 So they set the people, even all the host that was on the north of the city, and their liers-in-wait that were on the west of the city. Yahushua went that night into the midst of the valley.

14 It came to pass when the king of Ai saw it, they hurried, rose up early, and the men of the city went out against Yisrayah to battle, he and all his people, at the time appointed, before the Arabah. He did not know there was an ambush against him behind the city.

15 Yahushua and all Yisrayah made as if they were beaten before them, and fled by the way of the wilderness.

16 All the people that were in the city were called together to pursue after them. They pursued after Yahushua, and were drawn away from the city.

17 There was not a man left in Ai or Beth-el who did not go out after Yisrayah. They left the city open, and pursued after Yisrayah.

18 Yahwah said to Yahushua: Stretch out the javelin that is in your hand toward Ai, for I will give it into your hand. Yahushua stretched out the javelin that was in his hand toward the city.

19 The ambush arose quickly out of their place. They ran as soon as he stretched out his hand, entered into the city, and took it. They hurried, and set the city on fire.

20 When the men of Ai looked behind them, they saw. Behold, the smoke of the city ascended up to heaven. They had no power to flee this way, or that way. The people that fled to the wilderness turned back upon the pursuers.

21 When Yahushua and all Yisrayah saw the ambush had taken the city, and that the smoke of the city ascended, they turned again, and slew the men of Ai.

22 The others came forth out of the city against them. So they were in the midst of Yisrayah, some on this side, and some on that side. They smote them, so they let none of them remain or escape.

23 The king of Ai they took alive, and brought him to Yahushua.

24 It came to pass when Yisrayah made an end of killing all the inhabitants of Ai in the field, in the wilderness where they pursued them, and they were all fallen by the edge of the sword until they were consumed, that all Yisrayah returned to Ai, and smote it with the edge of the sword.

25 All that fell that day, both of men and women, were twelve thousand, even all the men of Ai.

26 Yahushua did not draw back his hand, with which he stretched out the javelin, until he utterly destroyed all the inhabitants of Ai.

27 Only the cattle and the spoil of that city Yisrayah took for prey to themselves, according to the word of Yahwah which He commanded Yahushua.

28 So Yahushua burnt Ai, and made it a heap for ever, even a desolation, to this day.

29 The king of Ai he hanged on a tree until the evening. At the going down of the sun Yahushua commanded, and they took his body down from the tree, cast it at the entrance of the gate of the city, and raised a great heap of stones on him, to this day.

30 Then Yahushua built an altar to Yahwah, the Father of Yisrayah, in mount Ebal.

31 As Moshe the servant of Yahwah commanded the children of Yisrayah, as it is written in the book of the law and instruction of Moshe, an altar of unhewn stones, upon which no man had lifted up any iron. They offered burnt-offerings to Yahwah on it, and sacrificed peace-offerings.

32 He wrote there upon the stones a copy of the law and instruction of Moshe, which he wrote in the presence of the children of Yisrayah.

33 All Yisrayah, their elders, officers, and their judges, stood on this side of the ark and on that side before the priests the Levites, who bore the ark of the covenant of Yahwah, as well the sojourner as the homeborn. Half of them in front of mount Gerizim, and half of them in front of mount Ebal, as Moshe the servant of Yahwah had commanded at the first, that they should bless the people of Yisrayah.

34 Afterward he read all the words of the law and instruction, the blessing and the curse, according to all that is written in the book of the law and instruction.

35 There was not a word of all Moshe commanded, which Yahushua did not read before all the assembly of Yisrayah, the women, the little ones, and the sojourners that were among them.

Chapter 9

1 It came to pass when all the kings that were beyond the Yordan, in the hill-country and in the lowland, and on all the shore of the great sea in front of Lebanon (the Hittite, the Amorite, the Canaanite, the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite), heard of it,

2 they gathered themselves together to fight with Yahushua and with Yisrayah with one accord.

3 When the inhabitants of Gibeon heard what Yahushua did to Yeriho, and to Ai,

4 they also worked wilily, and went and made as if they were ambassadors. Took old sacks upon their asses, wine-skins old, torn, bound up,

5 old and patched shoes upon their feet, and old garments upon them, and all the bread of their provision was dry and was become mouldy.

6 They went to Yahushua to the camp at Gilgal, and said to him, and to the men of Yisrayah: We are come from a far country. Now therefore make a covenant with us.

7 The men of Yisrayah said to the Hivites: Maybe you dwell among us, how will we make a covenant with you?

8 They said to Yahushua: We are your servants. Yahushua said to them: Who are you? Where do you come from?

9 They said to him: Your servants come from a very far country because of the Name of Yahwah your Father. We heard the fame of Him, all He did in Egypt,

10 and all He did to the two kings of the Amorites that were beyond the Yordan, to Sihon king of Heshbon, and to Og king of Bashan, who was at Ashtaroth.

11 Our elders and all the inhabitants of our country spoke to us, saying: Take provision in your hand for the journey, and go to meet them. Say to them: We are your servants. And now make a covenant with us.

12 For our provision we took this our bread hot out of our houses on the day we came forth to go to you. But now, behold, it is dry, and is become mouldy.

13 These wine-skins we filled were new, and behold, they are torn. These our garments and our shoes are become old by reason of the very long journey.

14 The men took of their provision, and did not ask counsel at the mouth of Yahwah.

15 Yahushua made peace with them, and made a covenant with them, to let them live. The princes of the congregation swore to them.

16 It came to pass at the end of three days after they made a covenant with them, they heard they were their neighbors, and they dwelt among them.

17 The children of Yisrayah journeyed, and came to their cities on the third day. Now their cities were Gibeon, Chephirah, Beeroth, and Kiriath-jearim.

18 The children of Yisrayah did not smite them, because the princes of the congregation swore to them by Yahwah, the Father of Yisrayah. All the congregation murmured against the princes.

19 But all the princes said to all the congregation: We swore to them by Yahwah, the Father of Yisrayah. Now we may not touch them.

20 This we will do to them, and let them live, unless wrath is upon us, because of the oath we swore to them.

21 The princes said to them: Let them live. So they became hewers of wood and drawers of water to all the congregation, as the princes spoke to them.

22 Yahushua called for them, and he spoke to them, saying: Why did you beguile us, saying; We are very far from you; when you dwell among us?

23 Now therefore you are cursed, there will never fail to be bondmen of you, both hewers of wood and drawers of water for the house of my Father.

24 They answered Yahushua, and said: Because it was certainly told your servants, how Yahwah your Father commanded His servant Moshe to give you all the land, and to destroy all the inhabitants of the land from before you. Therefore we were sore afraid for our lives because of you, and did this thing.

25 Behold, we are in your hand. As it seems good and right to you to do to us, do.

26 So he did to them, he delivered them out of the hand of the children of Yisrayah, that they did not kill them.

27 Yahushua made them that day hewers of wood and drawers of water for the congregation, and for the altar of Yahwah, to this day, in the place He should choose.

Chapter 10

1 Now it came to pass Adoni-zedek [Lord of Righteousness] king of Yerusalem [Jerusalem] heard how Yahushua took Ai and utterly destroyed it, as he did to Yeriho and her king so he did to Ai and her king, and how the inhabitants of Gibeon made peace with Yisrayah and were among them.

2 They feared greatly because Gibeon was a great city, as one of the royal cities, it was greater than Ai, and all the men of it were mighty.

3 So Adoni-zedek king of Yerusalem sent to Hoham king of Hebron, to Piram king of Jarmuth, to Japhia king of Lachish, and to Debir king of Eglon, saying:

4 Come up to me, help me, and let us smite Gibeon. It made peace with Yahushua, and with the children of Yisrayah.

5 Therefore the five kings of the Amorites, the king of Yerusalem, the king of Hebron, the king of Jarmuth, the king of Lachish, and the king of Eglon, gathered themselves together, went up, they and all their hosts, camped against Gibeon, and made war against it.

6 The men of Gibeon sent to Yahushua to the camp to Gilgal, saying: Do not slack your hand from your servants. Come up to us quickly, save us, and help us. All the kings of the Amorites that dwell in the hill-country are gathered together against us.

7 So Yahushua went up from Gilgal, he, all the people of war with him, and all the mighty men of valor.

8 Yahwah said to Yahushua: Do not fear them, for I delivered them into your hands. There will not a man of them stand before you.

9 Yahushua therefore came upon them suddenly, for he went up from Gilgal all the night.

10 Yahwah discomfited them before Yisrayah, and he killed them with a great slaughter at Gibeon, chased them by the way of the ascent of Beth-horon, smote them to Azekah, and to Makkedah.

11 It came to pass as they fled from before Yisrayah, while they were at the descent of Beth-horon, Yahwah cast down great stones from heaven upon them to Azekah, and they died. They were more who died with the hailstones than those whom the children of Yisrayah killed with the sword.

12 Then Yahushua spoke to Yahwah in the day Yahwah delivered up the Amorites before the children of Yisrayah. He said in the sight of Yisrayah: Sun, stand still upon Gibeon. You, Moon, in the valley of Aijalon.

13 The sun stood still, and the moon stayed, until the nation avenged themselves of their enemies. Is this not written in the book of Yashar [Jasher 88:59-65]? The sun stayed in the midst of heaven, and did not hurry to go down about a whole day.

14 There was no day like that before it, or after it, that Yahwah hearkened to the voice of a man. Yahwah fought for Yisrayah.

15 Yahushua returned, and all Yisrayah with him, to the camp to Gilgal.

16 These five kings fled, and hid themselves in the cave at Makkedah.

17 It was told Yahushua, saying: The five kings are found, hidden in the cave at Makkedah.

18 Yahushua said: Roll great stones to the mouth of the cave, and set men by it to keep them.

19 But you do not stay. Pursue after your enemies, and smite the hindmost of them. Do not allow them to enter into their cities, for Yahwah your Father delivered them into your hand.

20 It came to pass Yahushua and the children of Yisrayah made an end of killing them with a very great slaughter, till they were consumed, and the remnant which remained of them had entered into the fortified cities.

21 All the people returned to the camp to Yahushua at Makkedah in peace. None moved his tongue against any of the children of Yisrayah.

22 Then Yahushua said: Open the mouth of the cave, and bring forth those five kings to me out of the cave.

23 They did so, and brought forth those five kings to him out of the cave: the king of Yerusalem, the king of Hebron, the king of Jarmuth, the king of Lachish, and the king of Eglon.

24 It came to pass when they brought those kings forth to Yahushua, Yahushua called for all the men of Yisrayah, and said to the chiefs of the men of war that went with him: Come near, put your feet upon the necks of these kings. They came near, and put their feet upon the necks of them.

25 Yahushua said to them: Do not fear, nor be dismayed. Be strong, and of good courage, for thus Yahwah will do to all your enemies against whom you fight.

26 Afterward Yahushua smote them, put them to death, and hanged them on five trees. They were hanging upon the trees until the evening.

27 It came to pass at the time of the going down of the sun that Yahushua commanded, and they took them down off the trees, cast them into the cave where they hid themselves, and laid great stones on the mouth of the cave, to this very day.

28 Yahushua took Makkedah on that day, smote it with the edge of the sword, and the king of it. He utterly destroyed them, and all the souls that were in it. He left none remaining. He did to the king of Makkedah as he did to the king of Yeriho.

29 Yahushua passed from Makkedah, and all Yisrayah with him, to Libnah, and fought against Libnah.

30 Yahwah delivered it also, and the king, into the hand of Yisrayah. He smote it with the edge of the sword, and all the souls that were there. He left none remaining in it. He did to the king of it as he did to the king of Yeriho.

31 Yahushua passed from Libnah, and all Yisrayah with him, to Lachish, camped against it, and fought against it.

32 Yahwah delivered Lachish into the hand of Yisrayah. He took it on the second day, smote it with the edge of the sword, and all the souls, according to all he did to Libnah.

33 Then Horam king of Gezer came up to help Lachish. Yahushua smote him and his people, until he left him none remaining.

34 Yahushua passed from Lachish, and all Yisrayah with him, to Eglon. They camped against it, and fought against it.

35 They took it on that day, and smote it with the edge of the sword. He utterly destroyed all the souls that were there that day, according to all he did to Lachish.

36 Yahushua went up from Eglon, and all Yisrayah with him, to Hebron. They fought against it.

37 They took it, smote it with the edge of the sword, the king, all the cities thereof, and all the souls that were there. He left none remaining, according to all he did to Eglon. He utterly destroyed it, and all the souls that were there.

38 Yahushua returned, and all Yisrayah with him, to Debir, and fought against it.

39 He took it, the king, and all the cities. They smote them with the edge of the sword, and utterly destroyed all the souls that were there. He left none remaining. As he did to Hebron, so he did to Debir, and to the king. As he did also to Libnah, to the king there.

40 So Yahushua smote all the land, the hill-country, the South, the lowland, the slopes, and all their kings. He left none remaining, he utterly destroyed all that breathed, as Yahwah, the Father of Yisrayah, commanded.

41 Yahushua smote them from Kadesh-barnea even to Gaza, and all the country of Goshen, even to Gibeon.

42 At one time Yahushua took all these kings and their land, because Yahwah, the Father of Yisrayah, fought for Yisrayah.

43 Yahushua returned, and all Yisrayah with him, to the camp to Gilgal.

Chapter 11

1 It came to pass, when Jabin king of Hazor heard of it, he sent to Jobab king of Madon, to the king of Shimron, to the king of Achshaph,

2 to the kings that were on the north, in the hill-country, in the Arabah south of Chinneroth, in the lowland, in the heights of Dor on the west,

3 to the Canaanite on the east and on the west, the Amorite, the Hittite, the Perizzite, the Jebusite in the hill-country, and the Hivite under Hermon in the land of Mizpah.

4 They went out, they and all their armies with them, many people, even as the sand that is upon the sea-shore in multitude, with very many horses and chariots.

5 All these kings met together. They came and camped together at the waters of Merom, to fight with Yisrayah.

6 Yahwah said to Yahushua: Do not be afraid because of them. Tomorrow at this time I will deliver them up all slain before Yisrayah. You will hock their horses, and burn their chariots with fire.

7 So Yahushua came, and all the people of war with him, against them by the waters of Merom suddenly, and fell upon them.

8 Yahwah delivered them into the hand of Yisrayah. They smote them, chased them to great Sidon, to Misrephoth-maim, and to the valley of Mizpeh eastward. They killed them, until they left none remaining.

9 Yahushua did to them as Yahwah bade him. He hocked their horses, and burnt their chariots with fire.

10 Yahushua turned back at that time, took Hazor, and smote the king with the sword, for Hazor was the head of all those kingdoms.

11 They smote all the souls that were there with the edge of the sword, utterly destroying them. There was none left that breathed. He burned Hazor with fire.

12 Yahushua took all the cities of those kings, and all the kings of them. He smote them with the edge of the sword, and utterly destroyed them, as Moshe the servant of Yahwah commanded.

13 But as for the cities that stood on their mounds, Yisrayah burned none of them save Hazor only, that Yahushua burned.

14 All the spoil of these cities, and the cattle, the children of Yisrayah took for a prey to themselves. But every man they killed with the edge of the sword, until they destroyed them, neither did they leave any that breathed.

15 As Yahwah commanded Moshe his servant, so did Moshe command Yahushua. And so Yahushua did. He left nothing undone of all Yahwah commanded Moshe.

16 So Yahushua took all that land, the hill-country, all the South, all the land of Goshen, the lowland, the Arabah, the hill-country of Yisrayah, and the lowland of the same,

17 from mount Halak that goes up to Seir, even to the Lord God [Baal-gad] in the valley of Lebanon under mount Hermon. He took all their kings, smote them, and put them to death.

18 Yahushua made war a long time with all those kings.

19 There was not a city that made peace with the children of Yisrayah, save the Hivites the inhabitants of Gibeon. They took all in battle.

20 It was of Yahwah to harden their hearts, to come against Yisrayah in battle, that he might utterly destroy them, that they might have no favor, but that he might destroy them, as Yahwah commanded Moshe.

21 Yahushua came at that time and cut off the Anakim from the hill-country, from Hebron, from Debir, from Anab, from all the hill-country of Yahudah, and from all the hill-country of Yisrayah. Yahushua utterly destroyed them with their cities.

22 There was none of the Anakim left in the land of the children of Yisrayah. Only in Gaza, in Gath, and in Ashdod, did some remain.

23 So Yahushua took the whole land according to all Yahwah spoke to Moshe. Yahushua gave it for an inheritance to Yisrayah according to their divisions by their tribes. The land had rest from war.

Chapter 12

1 Now these are the kings of the land whom the children of Yisrayah killed, and possessed their land beyond the Yordan toward the sunrising, from the valley of the Arnon to mount Hermon, and all the Arabah eastward.

2 Sihon king of the Amorites, who dwelt in Heshbon, and ruled from Aroer, which is on the edge of the valley of the Arnon, and the city that is in the middle of the valley, and half Gilead, even to the river Jabbok, the border of the children of Ammon;

3 the Arabah to the sea of Chinneroth, eastward, and to the sea of the Arabah, even the Salt Sea, eastward, the way to Bethjeshimoth; and on the south, under the slopes of Pisgah.

4 The border of Og king of Bashan, of the remnant of the Rephaim, who dwelt at Ashtaroth and at Edrei,

5 and ruled in mount Hermon, and in Salecah, and in all Bashan, to the border of the Geshurites and the Maacathites, and half Gilead, the border of Sihon king of Heshbon.

6 Moshe the servant of Yahwah and the children of Yisrayah smote them. Moshe the servant of Yahwah gave it for a possession to the Reubenites, the Gadites, and half of the tribe of Manasseh.

7 These are the kings of the land whom Yahushua and the children of Yisrayah smote beyond the Yordan westward, from Lord-God [Baal-gad] in the valley of Lebanon even to mount Halak, that goes up to Seir, and Yahushua gave it to the tribes of Yisrayah for a possession according to their divisions.

8 In the hill-country, in the lowland, in the Arabah, in the slopes, in the wilderness, and in the South: the Hittite, the Amorite, the Canaanite, the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite.

9 The king of Yeriho, one; the king of Ai, which is beside Bethel, one;

10 the king of Yerusalem, one; the king of Hebron, one;

11 the king of Jarmuth, one; the king of Lachish, one;

12 the king of Eglon, one; the king of Gezer, one;

13 the king of Debir, one; the king of Geder, one;

14 the king of Hormah, one; the king of Arad, one;

15 the king of Libnah, one; the king of Adullam, one;

16 the king of Makkedah, one; the king of Bethel, one;

17 the king of Tappuah, one; the king of Hepher, one;

18 the king of Aphek, one; the king of Lassharon, one;

19 the king of Madon, one; the king of Hazor, one;

20 the king of Shimron-meron, one; the king of Achshaph, one;

21 the king of Taanach, one; the king of Megiddo, one;

22 the king of Kedesh, one; the king of Jokneam in Carmel, one;

23 the king of Dor in the height of Dor, one; the king of Goiim in Gilgal, one;

24 the king of Tirzah, one: all the kings thirty and one.

Chapter 13

1 Now Yahushua was old, well stricken in years. Yahwah said to him: You are old and well stricken in years, and there remains yet very much land to be possessed.

2 This is the land that yet remains: All the regions of the Philistines; and all the Geshurites

3 from the Shihor, which is before Egypt, even to the border of Ekron northward, which is reckoned to the Canaanites. The five masters of the Philistines; the Gazites, the Ashdodites, the Ashkelonites, the Gittites, and the Ekronites; also the Avvim

4 on the south. All the land of the Canaanites. And Mearah that belongs to the Sidonians, to Aphek, to the border of the Amorites.

5 The land of the Gebalites, and all Lebanon, toward the sunrising, from Lord-God under mount Hermon to the entrance of Hamath.

6 All the inhabitants of the hill-country from Lebanon to Misrephothmaim, even all the Sidonians. I will drive them out from before the children of Yisrayah, only you allot it to Yisrayah for an inheritance, as I command you.

7 Now therefore divide this land for an inheritance to the nine tribes, and half of the tribe of Manasseh.

8 With him the Reubenites and the Gadites received their inheritance, which Moshe gave them, beyond the Yordan eastward, even as Moshe the servant of Yahwah gave them.

9 From Aroer, that is on the edge of the valley of the Arnon, and the city that is in the middle of the valley, and all the plain of Medeba to Dibon;

10 and all the cities of Sihon king of the Amorites, who reigned in Heshbon, to the border of the children of Ammon;

11 and Gilead, and the border of the Geshurites and Maacathites, and all mount Hermon, and all Bashan to Salecah;

12 all the kingdom of Og in Bashan, who reigned in Ashtaroth and in Edrei (the same was left of the remnant of the Rephaim). Moshe smote these, and drove them out.

13 Nevertheless the children of Yisrayah did not drive out the Geshurites, nor the Maacathites. Geshur and Maacath dwell in the midst of Yisrayah to this day.

14 Only to the tribe of Levi he gave no inheritance. The offerings of Yahwah, the Father of Yisrayah, made by fire are his inheritance, as He spoke to him.

15 Moshe gave to the tribe of the children of Reuben according to their families.

16 Their border was from Aroer, that is on the edge of the valley of the Arnon, and the city that is in the middle of the valley, and all the plain by Medeba;

17 Heshbon, all its cities that are in the plain; Dibon, Bamothbaal, Beth-baal-meon,

18 Jahaz, Kedemoth, Mephaath,

19 Kiriathaim, Sibmah, Zereth-shahar in the mount of the valley,

20 Beth-peor, the slopes of Pisgah, Beth-jeshimoth,

21 all the cities of the plain, and all the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites, who reigned in Heshbon, whom Moshe smote with the chiefs of Midian, Evi, Rekem, Zur, Hur, and Reba, the princes of Sihon, that dwelt in the land.

22 Balaam also the son of Beor, the soothsayer, did the children of Yisrayah slay with the sword among the rest of their slain.

23 The border of the children of Reuben was the Yordan, and the border thereof. This was the inheritance of the children of Reuben according to their families, the cities and the villages thereof.

24 Moshe gave to the tribe of Gad, to the children of Gad, according to their families.

25 Their border was Jazer, all the cities of Gilead, half the land of the children of Ammon, to Aroer that is before Rabbah;

26 from Heshbon to Ramath-mizpeh, and Betonim; from Mahanaim to the border of Debir;

27 in the valley, Beth-haram, Beth-nimrah, Succoth, Zaphon, the rest of the kingdom of Sihon king of Heshbon, the Yordan and the border thereof, to the uttermost part of the sea of Chinnereth beyond the Yordan eastward.

28 This is the inheritance of the children of Gad according to their families, the cities and the villages thereof.

29 Moshe gave inheritance to half of the tribe of Manasseh, and it was for the half-tribe of the children of Manasseh according to their families.

30 Their border was from Mahanaim, all Bashan, all the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, all the towns of Jair, which are in Bashan, threescore cities;

31 half Gilead, Ashtaroth, and Edrei, the cities of the kingdom of Og in Bashan, were for the children of Machir the son of Manasseh, even for the half of the children of Machir according to their families.

32 These are the inheritances Moshe distributed in the plains of Moab, beyond the Yordan at Yeriho, eastward.

33 Moshe gave no inheritance to the tribe of Levi. Yahwah, the Father of Yisrayah, is their inheritance, as He spoke to them.

Chapter 14

1 These are the inheritances the children of Yisrayah took in the land of Canaan, which Eleazar the priest, Yahushua the son of Nun, and the heads of the fathers' houses of the tribes of the children of Yisrayah, distributed to them,

2 by the lot of their inheritance, as Yahwah commanded by Moshe, for the nine tribes, and for the half-tribe.

3 Moshe gave the inheritance of the two tribes and the half-tribe beyond the Yordan. But to the Levites he gave no inheritance among them.

4 The children of Yahusef were two tribes, Manasseh and Ephrayim. They gave no portion to the Levites in the land, save cities to dwell in, with the suburbs thereof for their cattle and for their substance.

5 As Yahwah commanded Moshe, so the children of Yisrayah did. They divided the land.

6 Then the children of Yahudah drew near to Yahushua in Gilgal. Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite said to him: You know the thing Yahwah spoke to Moshe the man of Yahwah concerning me and concerning you in Kadesh-barnea.

7 I was forty years old when Moshe the servant of Yahwah sent me from Kadesh-barnea to spy out the land, and I brought him word again as it was in my heart.

8 Nevertheless my brothers who went up with me made the heart of the people melt, but I wholly followed Yahwah my Father.

9 Moshe swore on that day, saying: Surely the land on which your foot treads will be an inheritance to you and to your children for ever, because you wholly followed Yahwah my Father.

10 Behold, Yahwah kept me alive, as He spoke, these forty and five years, from the time Yahwah spoke this word to Moshe, while Yisrayah walked in the wilderness. Lo, I am this day fourscore and five years old.

11 As yet I am as strong today as I was in the day Moshe sent me. As my strength was then, even so is my strength now, for war, to go out, and to come in.

12 Now therefore give me this hill-country, whereof Yahwah spoke in that day. You heard in that day how the Anakim were there, cities great and fortified. It may be Yahwah will be with me, and I will drive them out, as Yahwah spoke.

13 Yahushua blessed him. He gave Hebron to Caleb the son of Jephunneh for an inheritance.

14 Therefore Hebron became the inheritance of Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite to this day, because he wholly followed Yahwah, the Father of Yisrayah.

15 Now the name of Hebron beforetime was Kiriath-arba, which Arba was the greatest man among the Anakim. The land had rest from war.

Chapter 15

1 The lot for the tribe of the children of Yahudah according to their families was to the border of Edom, even to the wilderness of Zin southward, at the uttermost part of the south.

2 Their south border was from the uttermost part of the Salt Sea, from the bay that looks southward.

3 It went out southward of the ascent of Akrabbim, passed along to Zin, went up by the south of Kadesh-barnea, passed along by Hezron, went up to Addar, and turned about to Karka.

4 It passed along to Azmon, went out at the brook of Egypt, and the goings out of the border were at the sea. This will be your south border.

5 The east border was the Salt Sea, even to the end of the Yordan. The border of the north quarter was from the bay of the sea at the end of the Yordan,

6 the border went up to Beth-hoglah, passed along by the north of Beth-arabah, and the border went up to the stone of Bohan the son of Reuben.

7 The border went up to Debir from the valley of Achor, and so northward, looking toward Gilgal, that is over against the ascent of Adummim, which is on the south side of the river. The border passed along to the waters of En-shemesh, and the goings out thereof were at En-rogel.

8 The border went up by the valley of the son of Hinnom to the side of the Jebusite southward (the same is Yerusalem), and the border went up to the top of the mountain that lies before the valley of Hinnom westward, which is at the uttermost part of the vale of Rephaim northward.

9 The border extended from the top of the mountain to the fountain of the waters of Nephtoah, and went out to the cities of mount Ephron, and the border extended to Baalah (the same is Kiriath-jearim).

10 The border turned about from Baalah westward to Mount Seir, passed along to the side of Mount Jearim on the north (the same is Chesalon), went down to Beth-shemesh, and passed along by Timnah.

11 The border went out to the side of Ekron northward, and the border extended to Shikkeron, passed along to mount Baalah, and went out at Jabneel. The goings out of the border were at the sea.

12 The west border was to the great sea, and the border thereof. This is the border of the children of Yahudah round about according to their families.

13 To Caleb the son of Jephunneh he gave a portion among the children of Yahudah, according to the commandment of Yahwah to Yahushua, even Kiriath-arba, which Arba was the father of Anak (the same is Hebron).

14 Caleb drove the three sons of Anak out from there: Sheshai, Ahiman, and Talmai, the children of Anak.

15 He went up from there against the inhabitants of Debir. Now the name of Debir beforetime was Kiriath-sepher.

16 Caleb said: He that smites Kiriath-sepher, and takes it, I will give him Achsah my daughter to wife.

17 Othniel the son of Kenaz, the brother of Caleb, took it. He gave him Achsah his daughter to wife.

18 It came to pass, when she came to him, that she moved him to ask a field of her father. She alighted from off her ass, and Caleb said: What would you?

19 She said: Give me a blessing. You set me in the land of the South, give me also springs of water. He gave her the upper springs, and the nether springs.

20 This is the inheritance of the tribe of the children of Yahudah according to their families.

21 The uttermost cities of the tribe of the children of Yahudah toward the border of Edom in the South were Kabzeel, Eder, Jagur,

22 Kinah, Dimonah, Adadah,

23 Kedesh, Hazor, Ithnan,

Chapter 16

1 The lot came out for the children of Yahusef from the Yordan at Yeriho, at the waters of Yeriho on the east, even the wilderness, going up from Yeriho through the hill-country to Beth-el.

2 It went out from Beth-el to Luz, passed along to the border of the Archites to Ataroth,

3 and it went down westward to the border of the Japhletites, to the border of Beth-horon the nether, even to Gezer. The goings out thereof were at the sea.

4 The children of Yahusef, Manasseh and Ephrayim, took their inheritance.

5 The border of the children of Ephrayim according to their families was thus. The border of their inheritance eastward was Ataroth-addar, to Beth-horon the upper.

6 The border went out westward at Michmethas on the north, the border turned about eastward to Taanath-shiloh, and passed along it on the east of Janoah.

7 It went down from Janoah to Ataroth, to Naarah, reached to Yeriho, and went out at the Yordan.

8 From Tappuah the border went along westward to the brook of Kanah. The goings out thereof were at the sea. This is the inheritance of the tribe of the children of Ephrayim according to their families,

9 together with the cities which were set apart for the children of Ephrayim in the midst of the inheritance of the children of Manasseh, all the cities with their villages.

10 They did not drive out the Canaanites that dwelt in Gezer, but the Canaanites dwell in the midst of Ephrayim to this day, and are become servants to do taskwork.

Chapter 17

1 This was the lot for the tribe of Manasseh, he was the firstborn of Yahusef. As for Machir the first-born of Manasseh, the father of Gilead, because he was a man of war, therefore he had Gilead and Bashan.

2 So the lot was for the rest of the children of Manasseh according to their families. For the children of Abiezer, for the children of Helek, for the children of Asriel, for the children of Shechem, for the children of Hepher, and for the children of Shemida. These were the male children of Manasseh the son of Yahusef according to their families.

3 Zelophehad, the son of Hepher, the son of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh, had no sons, but daughters. These are the names of his daughters: Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah.

4 They came near before Eleazar the priest, before Yahushua the son of Nun, and before the princes, saying: Yahwah commanded Moshe to give us an inheritance among our brothers. Therefore according to the commandment of Yahwah he gave them an inheritance among the brothers of their father.

5 There fell ten parts to Manasseh, besides the land of Gilead and Bashan, which is beyond the Yordan,

6 because the daughters of Manasseh had an inheritance among his sons. The land of Gilead belonged to the rest of the sons of Manasseh.

7 The border of Manasseh was from Asher to Michmethas, which is before Shechem, and the border went along to the right hand, to the inhabitants of En-tappuah.

8 The land of Tappuah belonged to Manasseh, but Tappuah on the border of Manasseh belonged to the children of Ephrayim.

9 The border went down to the brook of Kanah, southward of the brook. These cities belonged to Ephrayim among the cities of Manasseh, and the border of Manasseh was on the north side of the brook. The goings out thereof were at the sea.

10 Southward it was Ephrayim's, northward it was Manasseh's, and the sea was his border. They reached to Asher on the north, and to Issachar on the east.

11 Manasseh had in Issachar and in Asher Beth-shean and its towns, Ibleam and its towns, the inhabitants of Dor and its towns, the inhabitants of En-dor and its towns, the inhabitants of Taanach and its towns, and the inhabitants of Megiddo and its towns, even the three heights.

12 Yet the children of Manasseh could not drive out the inhabitants of those cities, but the Canaanites would dwell in that land.

13 It came to pass, when the children of Yisrayah were waxed strong, they put the Canaanites to taskwork, and did not utterly drive them out.

14 The children of Yahusef spoke to Yahushua, saying: Why did you give me but one lot and one part for an inheritance, seeing I am a great people, forasmuch as Yahwah blessed me?

15 Yahushua said to them: If you are a great people, get you up to the forest, and cut down for yourself there in the land of the Perizzites and of the Rephaim, since the hill-country of Ephrayim is too narrow for you.

16 The children of Yahusef said: The hill-country is not enough for us. All the Canaanites that dwell in the land of the valley have chariots of iron, both those who are in Beth-shean and its towns, and those who are in the valley of Jezreel.

17 Yahushua spoke to the house of Yahusef, even to Ephrayim and to Manasseh, saying: You are a great people, and have great power. You will not have one lot only,

18 but the hill-country will be yours. Though it is a forest, you will cut it down, and the goings out thereof will be yours. You will drive out the Canaanites, though they have chariots of iron, and though they are strong.

Chapter 18

1 The whole congregation of the children of Yisrayah assembled themselves together at Shiloh, and set up the tent of meeting there. The land was subdued before them.

2 There remained among the children of Yisrayah seven tribes which had not yet divided their inheritance.

3 Yahushua said to the children of Yisrayah: How long are you slack to go in to possess the land, which Yahwah, the Father of your fathers, gave you?

4 Appoint for you three men of each tribe. I will send them, they will arise, walk through the land, and describe it according to their inheritance. They will come to me.

5 They will divide it into seven portions. Yahudah will abide in his border on the south, and the house of Yahusef will abide in their border on the north.

6 You will describe the land into seven portions, and bring the description here to me. I will cast lots for you here before Yahwah our Father.

7 The Levites have no portion among you. The priesthood of Yahwah is their inheritance. Gad, Reuben, and half of the tribe of Manasseh, received their inheritance beyond the Yordan eastward, which Moshe the servant of Yahwah gave them.

8 The men arose, and went. Yahushua charged those who went to describe the land, saying: Go, walk through the land, describe it, and come again to me. I will cast lots for you here before Yahwah in Shiloh.

9 The men went, passed through the land, and described it by cities into seven portions in a book. They came to Yahushua to the camp at Shiloh.

10 Yahushua cast lots for them in Shiloh before Yahwah. Yahushua divided the land to the children of Yisrayah according to their divisions.

11 The lot of the tribe of the children of Benjamin came up according to their families. The border of their lot went out between the children of Yahudah and the children of Yahusef.

12 Their border on the north quarter was from the Yordan. The border went up to the side of Yeriho on the north, and went up through the hill-country westward. The goings out thereof were at the wilderness of Beth-aven.

13 The border passed along from there to Luz, to the side of Luz (the same is Beth-el), southward. The border went down to Ataroth-addar, by the mountain that lies on the south of Beth-horon the nether.

14 The border extended from there, and turned about on the west quarter southward, from the mountain that lies before Beth-horon southward. The goings out thereof were at Kiriath-lord (the same is Kiriath-jearim), a city of the children of Yahudah. This was the west quarter.

15 The south quarter was from the uttermost part of Kiriath-jearim. The border went out westward, and went out to the fountain of the waters of Nephtoah.

16 The border went down to the uttermost part of the mountain that lies before the valley of the son of Hinnom, which is in the vale of Rephaim northward. It went down to the valley of Hinnom, to the side of the Jebusite southward, and went down to En-rogel.

17 It extended northward, went out at En-shemesh, and went out to Geliloth, which is over against the ascent of Adummim, and it went down to the stone of Bohan the son of Reuben.

18 It passed along to the side over against the Arabah northward, went down to the Arabah,

19 and the border passed along to the side of Beth-hoglah northward. The goings out of the border were at the north bay of the Salt Sea, at the south end of the Yordan. This was the south border.

20 The Yordan was the border of it on the east quarter. This was the inheritance of the children of Benjamin, by the borders thereof round about, according to their families.

21 Now the cities of the tribe of the children of Benjamin according to their families were Yeriho, Beth-hoglah, Emek-keziz,

22 Beth-arabah, Zemaraim, Beth-el,

23 Avvim, Parah, Ophrah,

24 Chephar-ammoni, Ophni, and Geba. Twelve cities with their villages.

25 Gibeon, Ramah, Beeroth,

26 Mizpeh, Chephirah, Mozah,

27 Rekem, Irpeel, Taralah,

28 Zelah, Eleph, the Jebusite (the same is Yerusalem), Gibeath, and Kiriath. Fourteen cities with their villages. This is the inheritance of the children of Benjamin according to their families.

Chapter 19

1 The second lot came out for Simeon, even for the tribe of the children of Simeon according to their families. Their inheritance was in the midst of the inheritance of the children of Yahudah.

2 They had for their inheritance Beer-sheba, or Sheba, and Moladah,

3 Hazar-shual, Balah, Ezem,

4 Eltolad, Bethul, Hormah,

5 Ziklag, Beth-marcaboth, Hazar-susah,

6 Beth-lebaoth, and Sharuhen. Thirteen cities with their villages.

7 Ain, Rimmon, Ether, and Ashan. Four cities with their villages,

8 and all the villages that were round about these cities to Baalath-beer, Ramah of the South. This is the inheritance of the tribe of the children of Simeon according to their families.

9 Out of the part of the children of Yahudah was the inheritance of the children of Simeon, for the portion of the children of Yahudah was too much for them. Therefore the children of Simeon had inheritance in the midst of their inheritance.

10 The third lot came up for the children of Zebulun according to their families. The border of their inheritance was to Sarid.

11 Their border went up westward, even to Maralah, reached to Dabbesheth, it reached to the brook that is before Jokneam,

12 it turned from Sarid eastward toward the sunrising to the border of Chisloth-tabor, it went out to Daberath, and went up to Japhia.

13 It passed from there along eastward to Gath-hepher, to Ethkazin, and it went out at Rimmon which stretches to Neah.

14 The border turned about it on the north to Hannathon. The goings out thereof were at the valley of Iphtah-el.

15 Kattath, Nahalal, Shimron, Idalah, and Bethlehem. Twelve cities with their villages.

16 This is the inheritance of the children of Zebulun according to their families, these cities with their villages.

17 The fourth lot came out for Issachar, even for the children of Issachar according to their families.

18 Their border was to Jezreel, Chesulloth, Shunem,

19 Hapharaim, Shion, Anaharath,

20 Rabbith, Kishion, Ebez,

21 Remeth, Engannim, En-haddah, Beth-pazzez,

22 and the border reached to Tabor, Shahazumah, and Bethshemesh. The goings out of their border were at the Yordan. Sixteen cities with their villages.

23 This is the inheritance of the tribe of the children of Issachar according to their families, the cities with their villages.

24 The fifth lot came out for the tribe of the children of Asher according to their families.

25 Their border was Helkath, Hali, Beten, Achshaph,

26 Allammelech, Amad, and Mishal. It reached to Carmel westward, to Shihor-libnath,

27 it turned toward the sunrising to Beth-dagon, reached to Zebulun, to the valley of Iphtah-el northward to Beth-emek, and Neiel. It went out to Cabul on the left hand,

28 Ebron, Rehob, Hammon, and Kanah, even to great Sidon.

29 The border turned to Ramah, and to the fortified city of Tyre. The border turned to Hosah. The goings out thereof were at the sea by the region of Achzib.

30 Ummah also, Aphek, and Rehob. Twenty and two cities with their villages.

31 This is the inheritance of the tribe of the children of Asher according to their families, these cities with their villages.

32 The sixth lot came out for the children of Naphtali, even for the children of Naphtali according to their families.

33 Their border was from Heleph, from the oak in Zaanannim, Adaminekeb, and Jabneel, to Lakkum. The goings out thereof were at the Yordan.

34 The border turned westward to Aznoth-tabor, went out from there to Hukkok, it reached to Zebulun on the south, reached to Asher on the west, and to Yahudah at the Yordan toward the sunrising.

35 The fortified cities were Ziddim, Zer, Hammath, Rakkath, Chinnereth,

36 Adamah, Ramah, Hazor,

37 Kedesh, Edrei, En-hazor,

38 Iron, Migdal-el, Horem, Beth-anath, and Bethshemesh. Nineteen cities with their villages.

39 This is the inheritance of the tribe of the children of Naphtali according to their families, the cities with their villages.

40 The seventh lot came out for the tribe of the children of Dan according to their families.

41 The border of their inheritance was Zorah, Eshtaol, Irshemesh,

42 Shaalabbin, Aijalon, Ithlah,

43 Elon, Timnah, Ekron,

44 Eltekeh, Gibbethon, Baalath,

45 Yahud, Bene-berak, Gath-rimmon,

46 Me-jarkon, and Rakkon, with the border over against Joppa.

47 The border of the children of Dan went out beyond them. The children of Dan went up and fought against Leshem, took it, smote it with the edge of the sword, possessed it, dwelt therein, and called Leshem, Dan (after the name of Dan their father).

48 This is the inheritance of the tribe of the children of Dan according to their families, these cities with their villages.

49 So they made an end of distributing the land for inheritance by the borders thereof. The children of Yisrayah gave an inheritance to Yahushua the son of Nun in the midst of them.

50 According to the commandment of Yahwah they gave him the city he asked for, even Timnath-serah in the hill-country of Ephrayim. He built the city, and dwelt therein.

51 These are the inheritances Eleazar the priest, Yahushua the son of Nun, and the heads of the fathers' houses of the tribes of the children of Yisrayah, distributed for inheritance by lot in Shiloh before Yahwah, at the door of the tent of meeting. So they made an end of dividing the land.

Chapter 20

1 Yahwah spoke to Yahushua, saying:

2 Speak to the children of Yisrayah, saying: Assign the cities of refuge, whereof I spoke to you by Moshe,

3 that the manslayer who kills any person unwittingly and unawares may flee there. They will be to you for a refuge from the avenger of blood.

4 He will flee to one of those cities, will stand at the entrance of the gate of the city, and declare his cause in the ears of the elders of that city. They will take him into the city to them, and give him a place, that he may dwell among them.

5 If the avenger of blood pursue after him, they will not deliver up the manslayer into his hand; because he smote his neighbor unawares, and did not hate him beforetime.

6 He will dwell in that city until he stands before the congregation for judgment, until the death of the high priest that will be in those days. Then the manslayer will return, come to his own city, to the city from where he fled, and to his own house.

7 They set apart Kedesh in Galilee in the hill-country of Naphtali, Shechem in the hill-country of Ephrayim, and Kiriath-arba (the same is Hebron) in the hill-country of Yahudah.

8 Beyond the Yordan at Yeriho eastward they assigned Bezer in the wilderness in the plain out of the tribe of Reuben, Ramoth in Gilead out of the tribe of Gad, and Golan in Bashan out of the tribe of Manasseh.

9 These were the appointed cities for all the children of Yisrayah, and for the stranger that sojourns among them, that whosoever kills any person unwittingly might flee there, and not die by the hand of the avenger of blood, until he stood before the congregation.

Chapter 21

1 Then the heads of fathers' houses of the Levites came near to Eleazar the priest, to Yahushua the son of Nun, and to the heads of fathers' houses of the tribes of the children of Yisrayah.

2 They spoke to them at Shiloh in the land of Canaan, saying: Yahwah commanded Moshe to give us cities to dwell in, with the suburbs thereof for our cattle.

3 The children of Yisrayah gave to the Levites out of their inheritance, according to the commandment of Yahwah, these cities with their suburbs.

4 The lot came out for the families of the Kohasites. The children of Aaron the priest, who were of the Levites, had thirteen cities by lot out of the tribe of Yahudah, out of the tribe of the Simeonites, and out of the tribe of Benjamin.

5 The rest of the children of Kohas had ten cities by lot out of the families of the tribe of Ephrayim, out of the tribe of Dan, and out of half of the tribe of Manasseh.

6 The children of Gershon had thirteen cities by lot out of the families of the tribe of Issachar, out of the tribe of Asher, out of the tribe of Naphtali, and out of half of the tribe of Manasseh in Bashan.

7 The children of Merari according to their families had twelve cities out of the tribe of Reuben, out of the tribe of Gad, and out of the tribe of Zebulun.

8 The children of Yisrayah gave by lot to the Levites these cities with their suburbs, as Yahwah commanded by Moshe.

9 They gave out of the tribe of the children of Yahudah, and out of the tribe of the children of Simeon, these cities which are here mentioned by name.

10 They were for the children of Aaron, of the families of the Kohasites, who were of the children of Levi. Theirs was the first lot.

11 They gave them Kiriath-arba, which Arba was the father of Anak (the same is Hebron), in the hill-country of Yahudah, with the suburbs thereof round about it.

12 But the fields of the city, and the villages thereof, they gave to Caleb the son of Jephunneh for his possession.

13 To the children of Aaron the priest they gave Hebron with its suburbs, the city of refuge for the manslayer, Libnah with its suburbs,

14 Jattir with its suburbs, Eshtemoa with its suburbs,

15 Holon with its suburbs, Debir with its suburbs,

16 Ain with its suburbs, Juttah with its suburbs, and Bethshemesh with its suburbs. Nine cities out of those two tribes.

17 Out of the tribe of Benjamin, Gibeon with its suburbs, Geba with its suburbs,

18 Anathoth with its suburbs, and Almon with its suburbs. Four cities.

19 All the cities of the children of Aaron, the priests, were thirteen cities with their suburbs.

20 The families of the children of Kohas, the Levites, even the rest of the children of Kohas, they had the cities of their lot out of the tribe of Ephrayim.

21 They gave them Shechem with its suburbs in the hill-country of Ephrayim, the city of refuge for the manslayer, Gezer with its suburbs,

22 Kibzaim with its suburbs, and Beth-horon with its suburbs. Four cities.

23 Out of the tribe of Dan, Elteke with its suburbs, Gibbethon with its suburbs,

24 Aijalon with its suburbs, Gath-rimmon with its suburbs. Four cities.

25 Out of half of the tribe of Manasseh, Taanach with its suburbs, and Gath-rimmon with its suburbs. Two cities.

26 All the cities of the families of the rest of the children of Kohas were ten with their suburbs.

27 To the children of Gershon, of the families of the Levites, out of half of the tribe of Manasseh they gave Golan in Bashan with its suburbs, the city of refuge for the manslayer, and Be-eshterah with its suburbs. Two cities.

28 Out of the tribe of Issachar, Kishion with its suburbs, Daberath with its suburbs,

29 Jarmuth with its suburbs, En-gannim with its suburbs. Four cities.

30 Out of the tribe of Asher, Mishal with its suburbs, Abdon with its suburbs,

31 Helkath with its suburbs, and Rehob with its suburbs. Four cities.

32 Out of the tribe of Naphtali, Kedesh in Galilee with its suburbs, the city of refuge for the manslayer, Hammoth-dor with its suburbs, and Kartan with its suburbs. Three cities.

33 All the cities of the Gershonites according to their families were thirteen cities with their suburbs.

34 To the families of the children of Merari, the rest of the Levites, out of the tribe of Zebulun, Jokneam with its suburbs, and Kartah with its suburbs,

35 Dimnah with its suburbs, Nahalal with its suburbs. Four cities.

36 Out of the tribe of Reuben, Bezer with its suburbs, Jahaz with its suburbs,

37 Kedemoth with its suburbs, and Mephaath with its suburbs. Four cities.

38 Out of the tribe of Gad, Ramoth in Gilead with its suburbs, the city of refuge for the manslayer, and Mahanaim with its suburbs,

39 Heshbon with its suburbs, Jazer with its suburbs. Four cities in all.

40 All these were the cities of the children of Merari according to their families, even the rest of the families of the Levites. Their lot was twelve cities.

41 All the cities of the Levites in the midst of the possession of the children of Yisrayah were forty and eight cities with their suburbs.

42 These cities were every one with their suburbs round about them, thus it was with all these cities.

43 So Yahwah gave to Yisrayah all the land He swore to give to their fathers. They possessed it, and dwelt therein.

44 Yahwah gave them rest round about, according to all He swore to their fathers. There stood not a man of all their enemies before them. Yahwah delivered all their enemies into their hand.

45 There failed not any of any good thing Yahwah spoke to the house of Yisrayah. All came to pass.

Chapter 22

1 Yahushua called the Reubenites, the Gadites, the half of the tribe of Manasseh,

2 and said to them: You kept all Moshe the servant of Yahwah commanded you, and hearkened to my voice in all I commanded you.

3 You did not leave your brothers these many days to this day, but kept the charge of the commandments of Yahwah your Father.

4 Now Yahwah your Father gives rest to your brothers, as He spoke to them. Now turn, and get to your tents, to the land of your possession, which Moshe the servant of Yahwah gave you beyond the Yordan.

5 Only take diligent heed to do the commandments and the law and instruction Moshe the servant of Yahwah commanded you: to love Yahwah your Father, to walk in all His ways, to keep His commandments, to cleave to Him, to serve Him with all your heart, and with all your soul.

6 So Yahushua blessed them, and sent them away. They went to their tents.

7 Now to the one-half of the tribe of Manasseh Moshe gave inheritance in Bashan, but to the other half Yahushua gave among their brothers beyond the Yordan westward. Moreover when Yahushua sent them away to their tents, he blessed them,

8 and spoke to them, saying: Return with much wealth to your tents, with very much cattle, with silver, with gold, with bronze, with iron, and with very much clothing. Divide the spoil of your enemies with your brothers.

9 The children of Reuben, the children of Gad, and the half-tribe of Manasseh returned, and departed from the children of Yisrayah out of Shiloh, which is in the land of Canaan, to go to the land of Gilead, to the land of their possession, whereof they were possessed, according to the commandment of Yahwah by Moshe.

10 When they came to the region about the Yordan, that is in the land of Canaan, the children of Reuben, the children of Gad, and the half-tribe of Manasseh built an altar there by the Yordan, a great altar to look upon.

11 The children of Yisrayah heard say: Behold, the children of Reuben, the children of Gad, and the half of the tribe of Manasseh built an altar in the forefront of the land of Canaan, in the region about the Yordan, on the side that pertains to the children of Yisrayah.

12 When the children of Yisrayah heard of it, the whole congregation of the children of Yisrayah gathered themselves together at Shiloh, to go up against them to war.

13 The children of Yisrayah sent Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest to the children of Reuben, to the children of Gad, and to the half of the tribe of Manasseh, into the land of Gilead,

14 and with him ten princes, one prince of a fathers' house for each of the tribes of Yisrayah. They were every one of them head of their fathers' houses among the thousands of Yisrayah.

15 They came to the children of Reuben, to the children of Gad, and to the half of the tribe of Manasseh, to the land of Gilead, and they spoke with them, saying:

16 Thus says the whole congregation of Yahwah: What trespass is this that you commit against the Father of Yisrayah, to turn away today from following Yahwah, in that you built an altar, to rebel today against Yahwah?

17 Is the iniquity of Peor too little for us, from which we have not cleansed ourselves to this day, although there came a plague upon the congregation of Yahwah,

18 that you must turn away today from following Yahwah? It will be, seeing you rebel today against Yahwah, that tomorrow He will be wroth with the whole congregation of Yisrayah.

19 If the land of your possession is unclean, then pass over to the land of the possession of Yahwah, wherein Yahwah's tabernacle dwells, and take possession among us. Do not rebel against Yahwah, nor rebel against us, in building an altar besides the altar of Yahwah our Father.

20 Did not Achan the son of Zerah commit a trespass in the devoted thing, and wrath fell upon all the congregation of Yisrayah? That man did not perish alone in his iniquity.

21 Then the children of Reuben, the children of Gad, and the half-tribe of Manasseh answered, and spoke to the heads of the thousands of Yisrayah:

22 Yahwah, King of gods! Yahwah, King of gods! He knows, and Yisrayah he will know. If it is in rebellion, or if in trespass against Yahwah (do not save us today)

23 that we built us an altar to turn away from following Yahwah; or if to offer burnt-offering or meal-offering, or if to offer sacrifices of peace-offerings, let Yahwah Himself require it.

24 If we did not rather do this out of carefulness, and of purpose, saying: In time to come your children might speak to our children, saying; What have you to do with Yahwah, the Father of Yisrayah?

25 Yahwah made the Yordan a border between us and you, you children of Reuben, and children of Gad. You have no portion in Yahwah. So your children might make our children cease from fearing Yahwah.

26 Therefore we said: Let us now prepare to build us an altar, not for burnt-offering, nor for sacrifice.

27 It is a witness between us and you, and between our generations after us, that we may do the service of Yahwah before Him with our burnt-offerings, with our sacrifices, and with our peace-offerings; that your children may not say to our children in time to come, you have no portion in Yahwah.

28 Therefore we said: It will be, when they so say to us or to our generations in time to come, we will say; Behold the pattern of the altar of Yahwah, which our fathers made, not for burnt-offering, nor for sacrifice. It is a witness between us and you.

29 Far be it from us that we should rebel against Yahwah, and turn away today from following Yahwah, to build an altar for burnt-offering, for meal-offering, or for sacrifice, besides the altar of Yahwah our Father that is before His tabernacle.

30 When Phinehas the priest, and the princes of the congregation, even the heads of the thousands of Yisrayah that were with him, heard the words that the children of Reuben, the children of Gad, and the children of Manasseh, spoke, it pleased them well.

31 Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest said to the children of Reuben, to the children of Gad, and to the children of Manasseh: Today we know Yahwah is in the midst of us, because you did not commit this trespass against Yahwah. You delivered the children of Yisrayah out of the hand of Yahwah.

32 Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest, and the princes, returned from the children of Reuben, and from the children of Gad, out of the land of Gilead, to the land of Canaan, to the children of Yisrayah, and brought them word again.

33 The thing pleased the children of Yisrayah. The children of Yisrayah blessed Yahwah, and spoke no more of going up against them to war, to destroy the land where the children of Reuben and the children of Gad dwelt.

34 The children of Reuben and the children of Gad called the altar Ed. They said: It is a witness between us that Yahwah is Master.

Chapter 23

1 It came to pass after many days, Yahwah gave rest to Yisrayah from all their enemies round about, and Yahushua was old and well stricken in years.

2 Yahushua called for all Yisrayah, for their elders, for their heads, for their judges, and for their officers, and said to them: I am old, well stricken in years.

3 You saw all Yahwah your Father did to all these nations because of you. Yahwah your Father is He who fought for you.

4 Behold, I allotted to you these nations that remain, to be an inheritance for your tribes, from the Yordan, with all the nations I cut off, even to the great sea toward the going down of the sun.

5 Yahwah your Father, He will thrust them out from before you, and drive them from out of your sight. You will possess their land, as Yahwah your Father spoke to you.

6 Therefore be you very courageous to keep and to do all that is written in the book of the law and instruction of Moshe, that you not turn aside to the right hand, or to the left.

7 Do not come among these nations, these that remain among you. Do not make mention of the name of their gods, nor cause to swear by them, nor serve them, nor bow down yourselves to them.

8 Cleave to Yahwah your Father, as you do today.

9 Yahwah drove out great nations and strong from before you. But as for you, no man stood before you to this day.

10 One man of you will chase a thousand. Yahwah your Father is He who fights for you, as He spoke to you.

11 Take good heed to yourselves, that you love Yahwah your Father.

12 Else if you do go back at all, and cleave to the remnant of these nations, even these that remain among you, and make marriages with them, go in to them, and they to you.

13 Know for a certainty Yahwah your Father will not drive these nations from out of your sight. They will be a snare and a trap to you, a scourge in your sides, and thorns in your eyes, until you perish from off this good land Yahwah your Father gave you.

14 Behold, today I am going the way of all the earth. You know in all your hearts and in all your souls, that not one thing has failed of all the good things Yahwah your Father spoke concerning you. All are come to pass to you, not one thing failed.

15 It will come to pass, that as all the good things are come upon you of which Yahwah your Father spoke to you, so Yahwah will bring upon you all the evil things, until He has destroyed you from off this good land Yahwah your Father gave you.

16 When you transgress the covenant of Yahwah your Father, which He commanded you, to go and serve the gods, and bow down yourselves to them, then the anger of Yahwah will be kindled against you, and you will perish quickly from off the good land He gave you.

Chapter 24

1 Yahushua gathered all the tribes of Yisrayah to Shechem, called for the elders of Yisrayah, for their heads, for their judges, and for their officers. They presented themselves before Yahwah.

2 Yahushua said to all the people: Thus says Yahwah, the Father of Yisrayah; Your fathers dwelt of old time beyond the River, even Terah, the father of Abraham and the father of Nahor. They served the gods.

3 I took your father Abraham from beyond the River, led him throughout all the land of Canaan, multiplied his seed, and gave him Isaac.

4 I gave to Isaac Yaacob and Esau. I gave Mount Seir to Esau, to possess it. Yaacob and his children went down into Egypt.

5 I sent Moshe and Aaron, and I plagued Egypt according to what I did in it. Afterward I brought you out.

6 I brought your fathers out of Egypt. You came to the sea. The Egyptians pursued after your fathers to the Red Sea with chariots, and with horsemen.

7 When they cried out to Yahwah, He put darkness between you and the Egyptians, brought the sea upon them, and covered them. Your eyes saw what I did in Egypt. You dwelt in the wilderness many days.

8 I brought you into the land of the Amorites, that dwelt beyond the Yordan. They fought with you. I gave them into your hand, you possessed their land, and I destroyed them from before you.

9 Balak the son of Zippor, king of Moab, arose and fought against Yisrayah. He sent and called Balaam the son of Beor to curse you.

10 I would not hearken to Balaam, therefore he blessed you still, so I delivered you out of his hand.

11 You went over the Yordan, and came to Yeriho. The men of Yeriho fought against you, the Amorite, the Perizzite, the Canaanite, the Hittite, the Girgashite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite. I delivered them into your hand.

12 I sent the hornet before you which drove them out from before you, even the two kings of the Amorites; not with your sword, nor with your bow.

13 I gave you a land where you did not labor, cities which you did not build, and you dwell there. You eat of vineyards and oliveyards which you did not plant.

14 Now therefore fear Yahwah, serve Him in sincerity, and in truth. Put away the gods your fathers served beyond the River, and in Egypt. Serve Yahwah.

15 If it seems evil to you to serve Yahwah, choose today whom you will serve: whether the gods your fathers served that were beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve Yahwah.

16 The people answered, and said: Far be it from us that we should forget Yahwah, to serve strange gods.

17 Yahwah our Father is He who brought us and our fathers up out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage, did those great signs in our sight, and preserved us in all the way where we went, among all the peoples through the midst of whom we passed.

18 Yahwah drove all the peoples out from before us, even the Amorites that dwelt in the land. Therefore we will serve Yahwah, for He is our Father.

19 Yahushua said to the people: You cannot serve Yahwah. He is a holy Father. He is a jealous Father. He will not forgive your transgression, nor your sins.

20 If you forget Yahwah, and serve foreign gods, He will turn, do you evil, and consume you, after He has done you good.

21 The people said to Yahushua: Nay. We will serve Yahwah.

22 Yahushua said to the people: You are witnesses against yourselves that you chose Yahwah, to serve Him. They said: We are witnesses.

23 He said: Now put away the foreign gods which are among you, and incline your heart to Yahwah, the Father of Yisrayah.

24 The people said to Yahushua: Yahwah our Father we will serve, and we will hearken to His voice.

25 So Yahushua made a covenant with the people that day, and set them a statute and an ordinance in Shechem.

26 Yahushua wrote these words in the book of the law and instruction of Yahwah. He took a great stone, and set it up there under the oak that was by the sanctuary of Yahwah.

27 Yahushua said to all the people: Behold, this stone is a witness against us, for it heard all the words of Yahwah which He spoke to us. It will be a witness against you, unless you deny your Father.

28 So Yahushua sent the people away, every man to his inheritance.

29 It came to pass after these things Yahushua the son of Nun, the servant of Yahwah, died, being a hundred and ten years old.

30 They buried him in the border of his inheritance in Timnath-serah, which is in the hill-country of Ephrayim, on the north of the mountain of Gaash.

31 Yisrayah served Yahwah all the days of Yahushua, and all the days of the elders that outlived Yahushua and knew all the work of Yahwah, what He wrought for Yisrayah.

32 They buried the bones of Yahusef in Shechem, which the children of Yisrayah brought up out of Egypt, in the parcel of ground Yaacob bought of the sons of Hamor the father of Shechem for a hundred pieces of money. They became the inheritance of the children of Yahusef.

33 Eleazar the son of Aaron died. They buried him in the hill of Phinehas his son, which was given him in the hill-country of Ephrayim.
