The Fifth Book of Moshe [Moses], called Devarim [Deuteronomy]

     Deuteronomy

Chapter 1

1 These are the words Moshe [Moses] spoke to all Yisrayah [Israel] beyond the Yordan [Jordan River] in the wilderness, in the Wadi Arabah opposite Suph, between Paran, Tophel, Laban, Hazeroth, and Di-zahab.

2 It is eleven days journey from Horeb by the way of mount Seir to Kadesh-barnea.

3 It came to pass in the fortieth year, in the eleventh month, on the first day of the month, Moshe spoke to the children of Yisrayah, according to all Yahwah [YHWH] gave him in commandment to them,

4 after he smote Sihon the king of the Amorites, who dwelt in Heshbon, and Og the king of Bashan, who dwelt in Ashtaroth, at Edrei.

5 Beyond the Yordan, in the land of Moab, Moshe began to declare the law and instruction.

6 Yahwah our Father spoke to us in Horeb, saying: You dwelt in this mountain long enough.

7 Turn, take your journey, go to the hill-country of the Amorites, to all the places near there, in the Arabah, in the hill-country, in the lowland, in the South, by the seashore, the land of the Canaanites, and Lebanon, as far as the great river, the river Euphrates.

8 Behold, I set the land before you. Go in, possess the land Yahwah swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Yaacob, to give to them and to their seed after them.

9 I spoke to you at that time, saying: I am not able to bear you myself alone.

10 Yahwah your Father multiplied you. Behold, today you are as the stars of heaven for multitude.

11 Yahwah, the Father of your fathers, make you a thousand times as many as you are, and blessed you, as He promised you!

12 How can I myself alone bear your cumbrance, your burden, and your strife?

13 Take wise men of understanding, and known, according to your tribes. I will make them heads over you.

14 You answered me, and said: The thing you spoke is good for us to do.

15 So I took the heads of your tribes, wise men, and known, and made them heads over you, captains of thousands, captains of hundreds, captains of fifties, captains of tens, and officers, according to your tribes.

16 I charged your judges at that time, saying: Hear the causes between your brothers, judge righteously between a man and his brother, and the sojourner that is with him.

17 You will not respect persons in judgment. You will hear the small and the great alike. You will not be afraid of the face of man, for the judgment is Yahwah's. Bring to me the cause that is too hard for you, and I will hear it.

18 I commanded you at that time all the things you should do.

19 We journeyed from Horeb, and went through all that great and terrible wilderness which you saw, by the way to the hill-country of the Amorites, as Yahwah our Father commanded us. We came to Kadesh-barnea.

20 I said to you: You are come to the hill-country of the Amorites, which Yahwah our Father gives to us.

21 Behold, Yahwah your Father set the land before you. Go up, take possession, as Yahwah, the Father of your fathers, spoke to you. Do not fear, neither be dismayed.

22 You came near to me every one of you, and said: Let us send men before us, that they may search the land for us, and bring us word again of the way by which we must go up, and the cities to which we will come.

23 The thing pleased me well, and I took twelve men of you, one man for every tribe.

24 They turned, went up into the hill-country, came to the valley of Eshcol, and spied it out.

25 They took of the fruit of the land in their hands, brought it down to us, brought us word again, and said: It is a good land Yahwah our Father gives to us.

26 Yet you would not go up, but rebelled against the commandment of Yahwah your Father.

27 You murmured in your tents, and said: Because Yahwah hated us, He brought us forth out of the land of Egypt, to deliver us into the hand of the Amorites, to destroy us.

28 Where are we going up? Our brothers made our heart to melt, saying: The people are greater and taller than we, the cities are great and fortified up to heaven, and moreover we saw the sons of the Anakim there.

29 Then I said to you: Do not dread, nor be afraid of them.

30 Yahwah your Father goes before you, He will fight for you, according to all He did for you in Egypt before your eyes,

31 and in the wilderness, where you saw how Yahwah your Father bore you, as a man bears his son, in all the way you went, until you came to this place.

32 Yet in this thing you did not believe Yahwah your Father,

33 who went before you in the way, to seek you out a place to pitch your tents in, in fire by night to show you by what way you should go, and in the cloud by day.

34 Yahwah heard the voice of your words, was angry, and swore, saying:

35 Surely there will not one of these men of this evil generation see the good land which I swore to give to your fathers,

36 except Caleb the son of Jephunneh. He will see it. I give to him the land he tread on, and to his children, because he wholly followed Yahwah.

37 Yahwah was angry with me for your sakes, saying: You also will not go in there.

38 Yahushua [Joshua] the son of Nun, who stands before you, he will go in there. You encourage him, for he will cause Yisrayah to inherit it.

39 Moreover your little ones, that you said should be a prey, and your children, that this day have no knowledge of good or evil, they will go in there. I give it to them, they will possess it.

40 But as for you, turn, take your journey into the wilderness by the way to the Red Sea.

41 Then you answered, and said to me: We sinned against Yahwah, we will go up and fight, according to all Yahwah our Father commanded us. Every man put on his weapons of war, and were forward to go up into the hill-country.

42 Yahwah said to me: Say to them; Do not go up, nor fight, for I am not among you, or you will be smitten before your enemies.

43 So I spoke to you, and you did not hearken. You rebelled against the commandment of Yahwah, were presumptuous, and went up into the hill-country.

44 The Amorites that dwell in that hill-country came out against you, chased you, as bees do, and beat you down in Seir, even to Hormah.

45 You returned, and wept before Yahwah. But Yahwah did not hearken to your voice, nor give ear to you.

46 So you abode in Kadesh many days, according to the days you abode there.

Chapter 2

1 Then we turned, and took our journey into the wilderness by the way to the Red Sea, as Yahwah spoke to me. We compassed mount Seir many days.

2 Yahwah spoke to me, saying:

3 You compassed this mountain long enough. Turn northward.

4 Command you the people, saying: You are to pass through the border of your brothers the children of Esau, that dwell in Seir. They will be afraid of you. Take good heed to yourselves.

5 Do not contend with them, for I will not give you of their land. No, not so much as for the sole of the foot to tread on, because I gave mount Seir to Esau for a possession.

6 You will purchase food of them for money, that you may eat. You will also buy water of them for money, that you may drink.

7 Yahwah your Father blessed you in all the work of your hand. He knows your walking through this great wilderness. Yahwah your Father was with you these forty years. You lacked nothing.

8 So we passed by from our brothers the children of Esau, that dwell in Seir, from the way of the Wadi Arabah from Elath and from Ezion-geber. We turned and passed by the way of the wilderness of Moab.

9 Yahwah said to me: Do not vex Moab, neither contend with them in battle. I will not give you of his land for a possession, because I gave Ar to the children of Lot for a possession.

10 (The Emim dwelt there before, a people great, and many, tall as the Anakim.

11 These also are accounted Rephaim, as the Anakim, but the Moabites call them Emim.

12 The Horites also dwelt in Seir aforetime, but the children of Esau succeeded them. They destroyed them from before them, and dwelt in their stead, as Yisrayah did to the land of his possession, which Yahwah gave to them.)

13 Now rise up, and get you over the brook Zered. We went over the brook Zered.

14 The days in which we came from Kadesh-barnea, until we were come over the brook Zered, were thirty and eight years, until all the generation of the men of war were consumed from the midst of the camp, as Yahwah swore to them.

15 Moreover the hand of Yahwah was against them, to destroy them from the midst of the camp, until they were consumed.

16 So it came to pass, when all the men of war were consumed and dead from among the people,

17 Yahwah spoke to me, saying:

18 You are to pass over Ar today, the border of Moab.

19 When you come near to the children of Ammon, do not vex them, nor contend with them. I will not give you of the land of the children of Ammon for a possession, because I gave it to the children of Lot for a possession.

20 (That also is accounted a land of Rephaim. Rephaim dwelt there before, but the Ammonites call them Zamzummim.

21 A people great, and many, tall as the Anakim. But Yahwah destroyed them before them, they succeeded them, and dwelt in their stead.

22 As He did for the children of Esau, that dwell in Seir, when He destroyed the Horites from before them. They succeeded them, and dwelt in their stead even to this day.

23 The Avvim, that dwelt in villages as far as Gaza, the Caphtorim [Philistines] came forth out of Caphtor, destroyed them, and dwelt in their stead.)

24 Rise you up, take your journey, and pass over the valley of the Arnon. Behold, I give Sihon the Amorite into your hand, king of Heshbon, and his land. Begin to possess it, contend with him in battle.

25 Today I will begin to put the dread of you and the fear of you upon the peoples that are under the whole heaven, who will hear the report of you, will tremble, and be in anguish because of you.

26 I sent messengers out of the wilderness of Kedemoth to Sihon king of Heshbon with words of peace, saying:

27 Let me pass through your land. I will go along by the highway, I will turn neither to the right hand, nor to the left.

28 You will sell me food for money, that I may eat. Give me water for money, that I may drink. Only let me pass through on my feet,

29 as the children of Esau that dwell in Seir, and the Moabites that dwell in Ar, did to me, until I will pass over the Yordan into the land Yahwah our Father gives us.

30 But Sihon king of Heshbon would not let us pass by him. Yahwah your Father hardened his spirit, and made his heart obstinate, that He might deliver him into your hand, as at this day.

31 Yahwah said to me: Behold, I begin to deliver up Sihon and his land before you. Begin to possess, that you may inherit his land.

32 Then Sihon came out against us, he and all his people, to battle at Jahaz.

33 Yahwah our Father delivered him up before us. We smote him, his sons, and all his people.

34 We took all his cities at that time, and utterly destroyed every inhabited city, with the women, and the little ones. We left none remaining.

35 Only the cattle we took for a prey to ourselves, with the spoil of the cities we took.

36 From Aroer, which is on the edge of the valley of the Arnon, and from the city that is in the valley, even to Gilead, there was not a city too high for us. Yahwah our Father delivered up all before us.

37 Only to the land of the children of Ammon you did not come near, all the side of the river Jabbok, and the cities of the hill-country, and wheresoever Yahwah our Father forbade us.

Chapter 3

1 Then we turned, and went up the way to Bashan. Og the king of Bashan came out against us, he and all his people, to battle at Edrei.

2 Yahwah said to me: Do not fear him. I have delivered him, all his people, and his land, into your hand. You will do to him as you did to Sihon king of the Amorites, who dwelt at Heshbon.

3 So Yahwah our Father delivered into our hand Og also, the king of Bashan, and all his people. We smote him until none was left to him remaining.

4 We took all his cities at that time. There was not a city we did not take from them, threescore cities, all the region of Argob, the kingdom of Og in Bashan.

5 All these were cities fortified with high walls, gates, and bars. Besides the unwalled towns a great many.

6 We utterly destroyed them, as we did to Sihon king of Heshbon, utterly destroying every inhabited city, with the women, and the little ones.

7 But all the cattle, and the spoil of the cities, we took for a prey to ourselves.

8 We took the land at that time out of the hand of the two kings of the Amorites that were beyond the Yordan, from the valley of the Arnon to mount Hermon

9 (which Hermon the Sidonians call Sirion, and the Amorites call it Senir),

10 all the cities of the plain, all Gilead, and all Bashan, to Salecah and Edrei, cities of the kingdom of Og in Bashan.

11 (For only Og king of Bashan remained of the remnant of the Rephaim. Behold, his bedstead was a bedstead of iron. Is it not in Rabbah of the children of Ammon? Nine cubits is the length thereof, and four cubits the breadth of it, after the cubit of a man.)

12 This land we took in possession at that time. From Aroer, which is by the valley of the Arnon, half the hill-country of Gilead, and the cities thereof, I gave to the Reubenites and to the Gadites.

13 The rest of Gilead, and all Bashan, the kingdom of Og, I gave to half of the tribe of Manasseh, all the region of Argob, even all Bashan. (The same is called the land of Rephaim.

14 Jair the son of Manasseh took all the region of Argob, to the border of the Geshurites and the Maacathites, and called them, even Bashan, after his own name, Havvoth-jair, to this day.)

15 I gave Gilead to Machir.

16 To the Reubenites and to the Gadites I gave from Gilead even to the valley of the Arnon, the middle of the valley, and the border thereof, even to the river Jabbok, which is the border of the children of Ammon.

17 The Arabah also, the Yordan, and the border thereof, from Chinnereth even to the sea of the Arabah, the Salt Sea, under the slopes of Pisgah eastward.

18 I commanded you at that time, saying: Yahwah your Father gives you this land to possess it. You will pass over armed before your brothers the children of Yisrayah, all the men of valor.

19 But your wives, your little ones, and your cattle (I know you have much cattle) will abide in your cities I give you,

20 until Yahwah give rest to your brothers, as to you, and they also possess the land Yahwah your Father gives them beyond the Yordan. Then you will return every man to his possession I gave you.

21 I commanded Yahushua at that time, saying: Your eyes saw all Yahwah your Father did to these two kings. So will Yahwah do to all the kingdoms where you go over.

22 You will not fear them. For Yahwah your Father, He it is who fights for you.

23 I asked Yahwah at that time, saying:

24 O Father Yahwah, you began to show your servant your greatness, and your strong hand. What God is there in heaven or in earth that can do according to your works, and according to your mighty acts?

25 I pray you, let me go over, and see the good land beyond the Yordan, that goodly mountain, and Lebanon.

26 But Yahwah was angry with me for your sakes, and did not hearken to me. Yahwah said to me: Let it suffice you. Speak no more to me of this matter.

27 Get up to the top of Pisgah. Lift up your eyes westward, northward, southward, and eastward. Behold with your eyes, for you will not go over this Yordan.

28 But charge Yahushua, encourage him, and strengthen him. He will go over before this people, and he will cause them to inherit the land you will see.

29 So we abode in the valley over against Beth-peor.

Chapter 4

1 O Yisrayah, hearken to the statutes and to the ordinances I teach you. Do them, that you may live, go in, and possess the land Yahwah, the Father of your fathers, gives you.

2 You will not add to the word I command you, neither will you diminish from it, that you may keep the commandments of Yahwah your Father as I command you.

3 Your eyes saw what Yahwah did because of the Lord-peor. All the men who followed The Lord-peor, Yahwah your Father destroyed from among you.

4 You that did cleave to Yahwah your Father are alive every one of you today.

5 Behold, I taught you statutes and ordinances, even as Yahwah my Father commanded me, that you should do so in the midst of the land where you go in to possess it.

6 Keep therefore, and do them. This is your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the peoples that will hear all these statutes, and say: Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.

7 What great nation is there that has a god so near to them, as Yahwah our Father is whensoever we call upon Him?

8 What great nation is there that has statutes and ordinances so righteous as all this law, which I set before you today?

9 Only take heed to yourself, and keep your soul diligently, unless you forget the things your eyes saw, and unless they depart from your heart all the days of your life. Make them known to your children, and your children's children.

10 The day you stood before Yahwah your Father in Horeb, Yahwah said to me: Assemble the people to me, I will make them hear my words, that they may learn to fear me all the days they live upon the earth, and that they may teach their children.

11 You came near, and stood under the mountain. The mountain burned with fire to the heart of heaven, with darkness, cloud, and thick darkness.

12 Yahwah spoke to you out of the midst of the fire. You heard the voice of words, but you saw no form. You only heard a voice.

13 He declared His covenant to you, which He commanded you to perform, even the ten commandments. He wrote them upon two tablets of stone.

14 Yahwah commanded me at that time to teach you statutes and ordinances, that you might do them in the land where you go over to possess it.

15 Take good heed to yourselves. You saw no manner of form on the day Yahwah spoke to you in Horeb out of the midst of the fire.

16 Lest you corrupt yourselves, and make a graven image [idol] in the form of any figure, the likeness of male or female,

17 the likeness of any beast that is on the earth, the likeness of any winged bird that flies in the heavens,

18 the likeness of anything that creeps on the ground, the likeness of any fish that is in the water under the earth.

19 And unless you lift up your eyes to heaven, and when you see the sun, the moon, and the stars, even all the host of heaven, you are drawn away, worship them, and serve them, which Yahwah your Father has allotted to all the peoples under the whole heaven.

20 Yahwah took you, and brought you forth out of the iron furnace, out of Egypt, to be to Him a people of inheritance, as at this day.

21 Furthermore Yahwah was angry with me for your sakes, and swore that I should not go over the Yordan, and that I should not go in to that good land, which Yahwah your Father gives you for an inheritance.

22 I must die in this land, I must not go over the Yordan. You will go over, and possess that good land.

23 Take heed to yourselves, do not forget the covenant of Yahwah your Father, which He made with you, and make a graven image in the form of anything Yahwah your Father forbids you.

24 Yahwah your Father is a devouring fire, a jealous Father.

25 When you beget children, and children's children, and you will have been long in the land, and will corrupt yourselves, and make a graven image in the form of anything, and will do what is evil in the sight of Yahwah your Father, to provoke Him to anger;

26 I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, you will soon utterly perish from off the land you go over the Yordan to possess. You will not prolong your days upon it, but will utterly be destroyed.

27 Yahwah will scatter you among the peoples, and you will be left few in number among the nations, where Yahwah will lead you away.

28 There you will serve gods, and the work of men's hands, wood and stone, which neither see, nor hear, nor eat, nor smell.

29 But you will seek Yahwah your Father from there, and you will find Him, when you search after Him with all your heart, and with all your soul.

30 When you are in tribulation, and all these things are come upon you, in the latter days you will return to Yahwah your Father, and hearken to His voice.

31 Yahwah your Father is a merciful Father. He will not fail you, neither destroy you, nor forget the covenant of your fathers He swore to them.

32 Ask now of the days that are past, which were before you, since the day Yahwah created man upon the earth, and from the one end of heaven to the other, whether there was any such thing as this great thing is, or was heard like it?

33 Did ever a people hear the voice of Yahwah speaking out of the midst of the fire, as you heard, and live?

34 Or did Yahwah ever go and take Him a nation from the midst of another nation, by trials, by signs, by wonders, by war, by a mighty hand, by an outstretched arm, and by great terrors, according to all Yahwah your Father did for you in Egypt before your eyes?

35 To you it was showed, that you might know Yahwah. He is our Father. There is none else besides Him.

36 He made you to hear His voice out of heaven, that He might instruct you. He made you to see His great fire upon earth, and you heard His words out of the middle of the fire.

37 He loved your fathers, therefore He chose their seed after them, and brought you out with His presence, with His great power, out of Egypt.

38 He drove out nations from before you greater and mightier than you, to bring you in, to give you their land for an inheritance, as at this day.

39 Know today, and lay it to your heart, Yahwah is Master in heaven above, and upon the earth beneath. There is none else.

40 You will keep His statutes, and His commandments, which I command you today, that it may go well with you, and with your children after you, and that you may forever prolong your days in the land which Yahwah your Father gives you.

41 Moshe set apart three cities beyond the Yordan toward the sunrising,

42 that the manslayer might flee there that slays his neighbor unawares, did not hate him in time past, and that fleeing to one of these cities he might live.

43 Namely, Bezer in the wilderness, in the plain country, for the Reubenites. Ramoth in Gilead, for the Gadites. And Golan in Bashan, for the Manassites.

44 This is the law Moshe set before the children of Yisrayah.

45 These are the testimonies, the statutes, and the ordinances, which Moshe spoke to the children of Yisrayah, when they came forth out of Egypt,

46 beyond the Yordan, in the valley over against Beth-peor, in the land of Sihon king of the Amorites, who dwelt at Heshbon, whom Moshe and the children of Yisrayah smote, when they came forth out of Egypt.

47 They took his land in possession, and the land of Og king of Bashan, the two kings of the Amorites, who were beyond the Yordan toward the sunrising;

48 from Aroer, which is on the edge of the valley of the Arnon, even to mount Sion (the same is Hermon),

49 and all the wadi Arabah beyond the Yordan eastward, even to the sea of the Arabah [Dead Sea], under the slopes of Pisgah.

Chapter 5

1 Moshe called to all Yisrayah, and said to them: Hear, O Yisrayah, the statutes and the ordinances I speak in your ears today, that you may learn them, and observe to do them.

2 Yahwah our Father made a covenant with us in Horeb.

3 Yahwah did not make this covenant with our fathers, but with us, even us, who are all of us here alive today.

4 Yahwah spoke with you face to face in the mount out of the middle of the fire.

5 I stood between Yahwah and you at that time, to show you the Word of Yahwah. You were afraid because of the fire, and did not go up into the mount. He said: [the Ten Commandments]

6 I am Yahwah your Father. I brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.

7 You will have no gods before me.

8 You will not make to you a graven image [idol], nor any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.

9 You will not bow yourself down to them [idols and gods], nor serve them. I, Yahwah your Father, am a jealous Father, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, upon the third, and upon the fourth generation, of those who hate me.

10 I show lovingkindness to thousands of those who love me, and keep my commandments.

11 You will not make the Name of Yahwah your Father vain. Yahwah will not hold guiltless him who makes His Name vain.

12 Observe the sabbath day. Keep it holy, as Yahwah your Father commanded you.

13 Labor six days, and do all your work.

14 But the seventh day is a sabbath to Yahwah your Father. In it you will not do any work, you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your man-servant, nor your maid-servant, nor your ox, nor your ass, nor any of your cattle, nor your stranger that is within your gates. Your man-servant and your maid-servant may rest as well as you.

15 You will remember you were a servant in the land of Egypt. Yahwah your Father brought you out of there by a mighty hand, and by an outstretched arm. Therefore Yahwah your Father commanded you to keep the sabbath day.

16 Honor your father and your mother, as Yahwah your Father commanded you, that your days may be long, and that it may go well with you in the land Yahwah your Father gives you.

17 You will not murder.

18 Nor will you commit adultery.

19 Nor will you steal.

20 Nor will you bear false witness against your neighbor.

21 Nor will you covet your neighbor's wife. Nor will you desire your neighbor's house, or his field, or his man-servant, or his maidservant, or his ox, or his ass, or anything that is your neighbor's.

22 These words Yahwah spoke to all your assembly in the mount out of the midst of the fire, of the cloud, and of the thick darkness, with a great voice. He added no more. He wrote them upon two tablets of stone, and gave them to me.

23 It came to pass, when you heard the voice out of the midst of the darkness, while the mountain was burning with fire, you came near to me, even all the heads of your tribes, and your elders.

24 You said: Behold, Yahwah our Father showed us His glory and His greatness, and we heard His voice out of the midst of the fire. Today we saw Yahwah does speak with man, and he lives.

25 Now why should we die? This great fire will consume us. If we hear the voice of Yahwah our Father any more, then we will die.

26 Who is there of all flesh who heard the voice of the living Father speaking out of the midst of the fire, as we did, and lived?

27 You go near, and hear all Yahwah our Father will say. You speak to us all Yahwah our Father speaks to you. We will hear it, and do it.

28 Yahwah heard the voice of your words, when you spoke to me. Yahwah said to me: I heard the voice of the words of this people, which they spoke to you. They well said all they spoke.

29 Oh that there were such a heart in them, that they would fear me, and keep all my commandments always, that it might be well with them, and with their children for ever!

30 Go say to them: Return you to your tents.

31 But as for you, you stand here by me. I will speak to you all the commandments, the statutes, and the ordinances, which you will teach them, that they may do them in the land I give them to possess it.

32 You will observe therefore to do as Yahwah your Father commanded you. You will not turn aside to the right hand, or to the left.

33 You will walk in all the way Yahwah your Father commanded you, that you may live, that it is well with you, and that you may prolong your days in the land you possess.

Chapter 6

1 Now these are the commandments, the statutes, and the ordinances, which Yahwah your Father commanded to teach you, that you might do them in the land where you go over to possess it.

2 Fear Yahwah your Father, keep all His statutes and His commandments, which I command you, you, your son, and your son's son, all the days of your life, that your days may be prolonged.

3 Hear, O Yisrayah, and observe to do it that it may be well with you, that you may increase mightily in a land flowing with milk and honey (as Yahwah, the Father of your fathers, promised to you).

4 Hear, O Yisrayah. Yahwah is our Father, Yahwah alone. [the Shema, Son of Sirach 24:24]

5 You will love Yahwah your Father with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your might.

6 These words, which I command you today, will be upon your heart.

7 You will teach them diligently to your children, and will talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up.

8 You will bind them for a sign upon your hand, and they will be for frontlets between your eyes.

9 You will write them upon the door-posts of your house, and upon your gates.

10 It will be, when Yahwah your Father brings you into the land He swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Yaacob, to give you great and goodly cities which you did not build,

11 houses full of all good things which you did not fill, cisterns hewn out which you did not hew, vineyards and olive-trees which you did not plant, and you will eat, and be full.

12 Then beware you do not forget Yahwah, who brought you forth out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.

13 Fear Yahwah your Father. Serve Him. Swear by His Name.

14 Do not go after gods, of the gods of the peoples that are round about you

15 (for Yahwah your Father in the midst of you is a jealous Father), lest the anger of Yahwah your Father is kindled against you, and He destroy you from off the face of the earth.

16 Do not tempt Yahwah your Father, as you tempted Him in Massah.

17 You will diligently keep the commandments of Yahwah your Father, and His testimonies, and His statutes, which He commanded you.

18 You will do what is right and good in the sight of Yahwah, that it may be well with you, and that you may go in and possess the good land Yahwah swore to your fathers,

19 to thrust out all your enemies from before you, as Yahwah spoke.

20 When your son asks you in time to come, saying: What mean the testimonies, the statutes, and the ordinances, which Yahwah our Father commanded you?

21 Then you will say to your son: We were Pharaoh's bondmen in Egypt, and Yahwah brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand.

22 Yahwah showed signs and wonders, great and sore, upon Egypt, upon Pharaoh, and upon all his house, before our eyes.

23 He brought us out from there, that He might bring us in, to give us the land He swore to our fathers.

24 Yahwah commanded us to do all these statutes, to fear Yahwah our Father, for our good always, that He might preserve us alive, as at this day.

25 It will be righteousness to us if we observe to do all this commandments before Yahwah our Father, as He commanded us.

Chapter 7

1 When Yahwah your Father brings you into the land where you go to possess it, and will cast out many nations before you (the Hittite, the Girgashite, the Amorite, the Canaanite, the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite, seven nations greater and mightier than you),

2 and when Yahwah your Father delivers them up before you, and you smite them, then you will utterly destroy them. You will make no covenant with them, nor show mercy to them.

3 Neither will you make marriages with them. You will not give your daughter to his son, nor will you take his daughter to your son.

4 She will turn your son away from following me, that they may serve the gods. So the anger of Yahwah will be kindled against you, and He will destroy you quickly.

5 This is how you will deal with them: you will break down their altars, dash in pieces their pillars, hew down their Easter idols [Asherim], and burn their idols with fire.

6 You are a holy people to Yahwah your Father. Yahwah your Father chose you to be a people for His own possession, above all peoples upon the face of the earth.

7 Yahwah did not set His love upon you, nor choose you, because you were more in number than any people, for you were the fewest of all peoples.

8 But because Yahwah loves you, and because He would keep the oath He swore to your fathers, Yahwah brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you out of the house of bondage, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.

9 Know therefore Yahwah your Father. He is Yahwah, the faithful Father, who keeps covenant and lovingkindness with those who love Him and keep His commandments to a thousand generations,

10 and repays those who hate Him to their face, to destroy them. He will not be slack to him that hates Him, He will repay him to his face.

11 You will therefore keep the commandments, the statutes, and the ordinances, which I command you today, to do them.

12 It will come to pass, because you hearken to these ordinances, to keep and do them, Yahwah your Father will keep with you the covenant and the lovingkindness He swore to your fathers.

13 He will love you, bless you, and multiply you. He will also bless the fruit of your body, the fruit of your ground, your grain, your new wine, your oil, the increase of your cattle, and the young of your flock, in the land He swore to your fathers to give you.

14 You will be blessed above all peoples. There will not be male or female barren among you, or among your cattle.

15 Yahwah will take all sickness away from you. He put none of the evil diseases of Egypt upon you, which you know, but will lay them upon all those who hate you.

16 You will consume all the peoples Yahwah your Father will deliver to you. Your eye will not pity them. Neither will you serve their gods [the Lord God and Easter], for that will be a snare to you.

17 If you say in your heart: These nations are more than I, how can I dispossess them?

18 You will not be afraid of them. You will well remember what Yahwah your Father did to Pharaoh, and to all Egypt.

19 The great trials your eyes saw, the signs, the wonders, the mighty hand, and the outstretched arm, whereby Yahwah your Father brought you out. So Yahwah your Father will do to all the peoples of whom you are afraid.

20 Moreover Yahwah your Father will send the hornet among them, until those who are left, and hide themselves, perish from before you.

21 You will not be frightened at them, for Yahwah your Father is in the midst of you. A great Father, a terrible Yah.

22 Yahwah your Father will cast out those nations before you by little and little. You may not consume them at once, lest the beasts of the field increase upon you.

23 But Yahwah your Father will deliver them up before you, and will discomfit them with a great discomfiture, until they are destroyed.

24 He will deliver their kings into your hand, and you will make their name to perish from under heaven. No man will be able to stand before you, until you destroy them.

25 Burn the idols of their gods with fire. Do not covet the silver or the gold that is on them, nor take it to you, unless you are snared by it. For it is an abomination to Yahwah your Father.

26 You will not bring an abomination into your house, and become a devoted thing like to it. You will utterly detest it, and you will utterly abhor it, for it is a devoted thing.

Chapter 8

1 All the commandments I command you today you will observe to do, that you may live, multiply, and go in and possess the land Yahwah swore to your fathers.

2 You will remember all the way Yahwah your Father led you these forty years in the wilderness, that He might humble you, to prove you, to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep His commandments, or not.

3 He humbled you, and allowed you to hunger (and fed you with manna, which you did not know, neither did your fathers know), that He might make you know man does not live by bread only. Man lives by everything that proceeds out of the mouth of Yahwah.

4 Your clothes did not wax old upon you, neither did your foot swell, these forty years.

5 You will consider in your heart, as a man chastises his son, so Yahwah your Father chastises you.

6 You will keep the commandments of Yahwah your Father, to walk in His ways, and to fear Him.

7 Yahwah your Father brings you into a good land, a land of brooks of water, of fountains and springs, flowing forth in valleys and hills.

8 A land of wheat, barley, vines, fig-trees, and pomegranates. A land of olive-trees and honey.

9 A land in which you will eat bread without scarceness, you will not lack anything in it. A land whose stones are iron, and out of whose hills you may dig copper.

10 You will eat, be full, and you will bless Yahwah your Father for the good land He gave you.

11 Beware unless you forget Yahwah your Father, in not keeping His commandments, His ordinances, and His statutes, which I command you today.

12 When you eat and are full, and have built goodly houses, and dwell in them

13 (when your herds and your flocks multiply, your silver and your gold is multiplied, and all you have is multiplied),

14 if your heart is lifted up, do not forget Yahwah your Father, who brought you forth out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.

15 He led you through the great and terrible wilderness, in which were fiery serpents and scorpions, and thirsty ground where there was no water. He brought you forth water out of the rock of flint.

16 He fed you in the wilderness with manna, which your fathers did not know, that He might humble you, and that He might prove you, to do you good at your latter end.

17 Do not say in your heart: My power, and the might of my hand, got me this wealth.

18 Remember Yahwah your Father, it is He who gives you power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant He swore to your fathers, as at this day.

19 It will be, if you forget Yahwah your Father, to walk after the gods, serve them, and worship them, I testify against you today you will surely perish.

20 As the nations Yahwah made to perish before you, so you will perish, because you would not hearken to the voice of Yahwah your Father.

Chapter 9

1 Hear, O Yisrayah. You are to pass over the Yordan today, to go in to dispossess nations greater and mightier than yourself, cities great and fortified up to heaven,

2 a people great and tall, the sons of the Anakim, whom you know, and of whom you heard say: Who can stand before the sons of Anak?

3 Know therefore today Yahwah your Father is He who goes over before you as a devouring fire. He will destroy them, and He will bring them down before you. So you will drive them out, and make them to perish quickly, as Yahwah spoke to you.

4 Do not say in your heart, after Yahwah your Father thrusts them out from before you, saying: For my righteousness Yahwah brought me in to possess this land. No, it is because of the wickedness of these nations Yahwah drives them out from before you.

5 Not for your righteousness, or for the uprightness of your heart, do you go in to possess their land. But for the wickedness of these nations Yahwah your Father does drive them out from before you, and so He may establish the word Yahwah swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Yaacob.

6 Know therefore, Yahwah your Father does not give you this good land to possess it for your righteousness. For you are a stiffnecked people.

7 Remember, do not forget, how you provoked Yahwah your Father to wrath in the wilderness. From the day you went forth out of the land of Egypt, until you came to this place, you were rebellious against Yahwah.

8 Also in Horeb you provoked Yahwah to wrath, and Yahwah was angry with you to destroy you.

9 When I was gone up into the mount to receive the tablets of stone, even the tablets of the covenant Yahwah made with you, then I abode in the mount forty days and forty nights. I neither ate bread nor drank water.

10 Yahwah delivered to me the two tablets of stone written with the finger of Yahwah. On them was written according to all the words Yahwah spoke with you in the mount out of the middle of the fire in the day of the assembly.

11 It came to pass at the end of forty days and forty nights Yahwah gave me the two tablets of stone, even the tablets of the covenant.

12 Yahwah said to me: Arise, get down from here quickly. For your people you brought forth out of Egypt have corrupted themselves. They are quickly turned aside out of the way I commanded them. They made a molten image [idol]!

13 Furthermore Yahwah spoke to me, saying: I see this people. Behold, it is a stiffnecked people.

14 Let me alone, that I may destroy them, and blot out their name from under heaven. I will make a nation of you mightier and greater than they.

15 So I turned, came down from the mount, and the mount was burning with fire. The two tablets of the covenant were in my two hands.

16 I looked. Behold, you sinned against Yahwah your Father. You made a molten calf. You turned aside quickly out of The Way Yahwah commanded you.

17 I took hold of the two tablets, cast them out of my two hands, and broke them before your eyes.

18 I fell down forty days and forty nights before Yahwah, as at the first. I neither ate bread nor drank water, because of all your sin you sinned, in doing what was evil in the sight of Yahwah, to provoke Him to anger.

19 I was afraid of the anger and hot displeasure with which Yahwah was wroth against you to destroy you. But Yahwah hearkened to me that time also.

20 Yahwah was very angry with Aaron to destroy him. I prayed for Aaron also at the same time.

21 I took your sin, the calf you made, burned it with fire, and stamped it, grinding it very small, until it was as fine as dust. I cast the dust thereof into the brook that descended out of the mount.

22 At Taberah, at Massah, and at Kibroth-hattaavah, you provoked Yahwah to wrath.

23 When Yahwah sent you from Kadesh-barnea, saying: Go up, possess the land I give you. You rebelled against the commandment of Yahwah your Father, you did not believe Him, nor hearken to His voice.

24 You have been rebellious against Yahwah from the day I knew you.

25 So I fell down before Yahwah the forty days and forty nights that I fell down, because Yahwah said He would destroy you.

26 I prayed to Yahwah, and said: O Father Yahwah, do not destroy your people, your inheritance you redeemed through your greatness, that you brought forth out of Egypt with a mighty hand.

27 Remember your servants, Abraham, Isaac, and Yaacob. Do not look to the stubbornness of this people, nor to their wickedness, nor to their sin,

28 or else the land from which you brought us out will say: Because Yahwah was not able to bring them into the land He promised to them, and because He hated them, He brought them out to kill them in the wilderness.

29 Yet they are your people, your inheritance, which you brought out by your great power, and by your outstretched arm.

Chapter 10

1 At that time Yahwah said to me: Hew two tablets of stone like to the first, make an ark of wood, and come up to me into the mount.

2 I will write the words on the tablets that were on the first tablets which you broke, and you will put them in the ark.

3 So I made an ark of acacia wood, hewed two tablets of stone like to the first, and went up into the mount, having the two tablets in my hand.

4 He wrote on the tablets, according to the first writing, the ten commandments, which Yahwah spoke to you in the mount out of the middle of the fire in the day of the assembly. Yahwah gave them to me.

5 I turned, came down from the mount, and put the tablets in the ark I made. There they are as Yahwah commanded me.

6 (The children of Yisrayah journeyed from Beeroth Bene-jaakan to Moserah. There Aaron died, and there he was buried. Eleazar his son ministered in the priest's office in his stead.

7 From there they journeyed to Gudgodah. And from Gudgodah to Jotbathah, a land of brooks of water.

8 At that time Yahwah set apart the tribe of Levi, to bear the ark of the covenant of Yahwah, to stand before Yahwah to minister to Him, and to bless in His Name, to this day.

9 Wherefore Levi has no portion nor inheritance with his brothers. Yahwah is his inheritance, according as Yahwah your Father spoke to him.)

10 I stayed in the mount forty days and forty nights, as at the first time. Yahwah hearkened to me that time also. Yahwah did not destroy you.

11 Yahwah said to me: Arise, take your journey before the people. They will go in and possess the land I swore to their fathers to give to them.

12 And now, Yisrayah, what does Yahwah your Father require of you, except to fear Yahwah your Father, to walk in all His ways, to love Him, to serve Yahwah your Father with all your heart, and with all your soul,

13 to keep the commandments of Yahwah, and His statutes, which I command you this day for your good?

14 Behold, heaven, the heaven of heavens, the earth, with all that is in it, belongs to Yahwah your Father.

15 Only Yahwah had a delight in your fathers to love them, and He chose their seed after them, even you above all peoples, as at this day.

16 Circumcise the foreskin of your heart, and be stiffnecked no more.

17 For Yahwah your Father, He is Father of the gods, Master of the demons, the great Yahwah, the mighty, the terrible, who does not regard persons, nor take rewards.

18 He executes justice for the fatherless and widow, and loves the sojourner, in giving him food and clothing.

19 Love the sojourner, for you were sojourners in the land of Egypt.

20 Fear Yahwah your Father. Serve Him. Cleave to Him, and swear by His Name.

21 He is your praise, and He is your Father, who did these great and terrible things for you which your eyes saw.

22 Your fathers went down into Egypt with threescore and ten persons. And now Yahwah your Father has made you as the stars of heaven for multitude.

Chapter 11

1 Therefore you will love Yahwah your Father. Keep His charge, His statutes, His ordinances, and His commandments, always.

2 You know I do not speak with your children who did not know, and did not see the chastisement of Yahwah your Father, His greatness, His mighty hand, His outstretched arm,

3 His signs, and His works, which He did in the midst of Egypt to Pharaoh the king of Egypt, and to all his land.

4 Nor what He did to the army of Egypt, to their horses, and to their chariots, how He made the water of the Red Sea to overflow them as they pursued after you, and how Yahwah destroyed them to this day.

5 Nor what He did to you in the wilderness, until you came to this place.

6 Nor what He did to Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab, the son of Reuben, how the earth opened its mouth, and swallowed them up, their households, their tents, and every living thing that followed them, in the midst of all Yisrayah.

7 Your own eyes saw all the great work of Yahwah, which He did.

8 Therefore you will keep all the commandments I command you today, that you may be strong, and go in and possess the land, where you go over to possess it.

9 You may prolong your days in the land, which Yahwah swore to your fathers to give to them and to their seed, a land flowing with milk and honey.

10 For the land, where you go in to possess it, is not as the land of Egypt from which you came out of, where you sowed your seed, and watered it with your foot, as a garden of herbs.

11 The land you go over to possess is a land of hills and valleys, and drinks water of the rain of heaven.

12 A land which Yahwah your Father cares for. The eyes of Yahwah your Father are always upon it, from the beginning of the year even to the end of the year.

13 It will come to pass, if you will hearken diligently to my commandments I command you today, to love Yahwah your Father, to serve Him with all your heart, and with all your soul,

14 I will give the rain of your land in its season, the former rain and the latter rain, that you may gather in your grain, your new wine, and your oil.

15 I will give grass in your fields for your cattle. You will eat, and be full.

16 Take heed to yourselves, lest your heart is deceived, you turn aside, serve hinder gods, worship them,

17 so the anger of Yahwah is kindled against you, and He shut up the heavens so there will be no rain, and the land does not yield its fruit. You will perish quickly from off the good land Yahwah gives you.

18 Therefore lay up these my words in your heart, and in your soul. You will bind them for a sign upon your hand, and they will be for frontlets between your eyes.

19 You will teach them [to] your children, talking of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up.

20 You will write them upon the door-posts of your house, and upon your gates.

21 That your days may be multiplied, and the days of your children, in the land Yahwah swore to your fathers to give them, as the days of the heavens above the earth.

22 If you diligently keep all these commandments I command you, to do them, to love Yahwah your Father, to walk in all His ways, and to cleave to Him,

23 Yahwah will drive out all these nations from before you, and you will dispossess nations greater and mightier than yourselves.

24 Every place where the sole of your foot will tread is yours. From the wilderness, and Lebanon, from the river, the river Euphrates, even to the hinder sea will be your border.

25 No man will be able to stand before you. Yahwah your Father will lay the fear of you and the dread of you upon all the land you tread upon, as He spoke to you.

26 Behold, today I set before you a blessing, and a curse.

27 The blessing, if you will hearken to the commandments of Yahwah your Father, which I command you today.

28 The curse, if you will not hearken to the commandments of Yahwah your Father, but turn aside out of the way I command you this day, to go after other gods, which you have not known.

29 It will come to pass, when Yahwah your Father will bring you into the land where you go to possess it, you will set the blessing upon mount Gerizim, and the curse upon mount Ebal.

30 Are they not beyond the Yordan, behind the way of the going down of the sun, in the land of the Canaanites that dwell in the Arabah, over against Gilgal, beside the oaks of Moreh?

31 You are to pass over the Yordan to go in to possess the land Yahwah your Father gives you, you will possess it, and dwell in it.

32 You will observe to do all the statutes and the ordinances I set before you today.

Chapter 12

1 These are the statutes and the ordinances you will observe to do in the land Yahwah, the Father of your fathers, gives you to possess all the days you live upon the earth.

2 You will surely destroy all the places where the nations you dispossess served their gods, upon the high mountains, upon the hills, and under every green tree.

3 You will break down their altars, dash in pieces their pillars, and burn their Easter idols with fire. You will hew down the graven images of their gods, and you will destroy their names out of that place.

4 You will not do so to Yahwah your Father.

5 But to the place Yahwah your Father will choose out of all your tribes, to put His Name there, even to His habitation you will seek, and you will come there.

6 There you will bring your burnt-offerings, your sacrifices, your tithes, the heave-offering of your hand, your vows, your freewill-offerings, the firstlings of your herd, and of your flock.

7 There you will eat before Yahwah your Father. You will rejoice in all you put your hand to, you and your households, wherein Yahwah your Father blesses you.

8 You will not do after all the things we do here today, every man whatsoever is right in his own eyes,

9 for you are not as yet come to the rest and to the inheritance Yahwah your Father gives you.

10 But when you go over the Yordan, and dwell in the land Yahwah your Father causes you to inherit, He will give you rest from all your enemies round about, so you dwell in safety.

11 It will come to pass that to the place Yahwah your Father will choose, to cause His Name to dwell, there you will bring all I command you. Your burnt-offerings, your sacrifices, your tithes, the heave-offering of your hand, and all your choice vows you vow to Yahwah.

12 You will rejoice before Yahwah your Father, you, your sons, your daughters, your men-servants, your maid-servants, and the Levite within your gates, forasmuch as he has no portion nor inheritance with you.

13 Take heed to yourself that you not offer your burnt-offerings in every place you see.

14 But in the place Yahwah will choose in one of your tribes, there you will offer your burnt-offerings, and there you will do all I command you.

15 Notwithstanding, you may kill and eat flesh within all your gates, after all the desire of your soul, according to the blessing of Yahwah your Father which He gave you. The unclean and the clean may eat thereof, as of the gazelle, and as of the hart.

16 Only you will not eat the blood, you will pour it out upon the earth as water.

17 You may not eat the tithe of your grain within your gates, or of your new wine, or of your oil, or the firstlings of your herd, or of your flock, nor any of your vows you vowed, nor your freewill-offerings, nor the heave-offering of your hand.

18 You will eat them before Yahwah your Father in the place Yahwah your Father will choose, you, your son, your daughter, your man-servant, your maid-servant, and the Levite that is within your gates. You will rejoice before Yahwah your Father in all you put your hand to.

19 Take heed to yourself that you not forsake the Levite as long as you live in your land.

20 When Yahwah your Father enlarges your border, as He promised you, you will say: I will eat flesh. Because your soul desires to eat flesh, you may eat flesh, after all the desire of your soul.

21 If the place Yahwah your Father chooses to put His Name is too far from you, then you will kill of your herd and of your flock, which Yahwah gave you, as I commanded you. You may eat within your gates, after all the desire of your soul.

22 Even as the gazelle and as the hart is eaten, so you will eat thereof. The unclean and the clean may eat thereof alike.

23 Only be sure you not eat the blood. The blood is the life, and you will not eat the life with the flesh.

24 You will not eat it, you will pour it out upon the earth as water.

25 You will not eat it, that it may go well with you, and with your children after you, when you do what is right in the eyes of Yahwah.

26 Only your holy things you have, and your vows, you will take, and go to the place Yahwah will choose.

27 You will offer your burnt-offerings, the flesh and the blood, upon the altar of Yahwah your Father. The blood of your sacrifices will be poured out upon the altar of Yahwah your Father, and you will eat the flesh.

28 Observe and hear all these words I command you, that it may go well with you, and with your children after you forever, when you do what is good and right in the eyes of Yahwah your Father.

29 Yahwah your Father cuts off the nations from before you, where you go in to dispossess them. When you dispossess them, and dwell in their land,

30 take heed to yourself that you are not ensnared to follow them (after they are destroyed from before you), and that you not inquire after their gods, saying: How do these nations serve their gods? Even so I will do likewise.

31 You will not do so to Yahwah your Father. Every abomination to Yahwah, which He hates, they do to their gods. They even burn their sons and their daughters in the fire to their gods.

32 What thing soever I command you, that you will observe to do. You will not add to nor diminish from it.

Chapter 13

1 If there arise in the midst of you a prophet, or a dreamer of dreams, and he give you a sign or a wonder,

2 and the sign or the wonder come to pass whereof he spoke to you, saying: Let us go after other gods, which you have not known, and let us serve them;

3 you will not hearken to the words of that prophet, or to that dreamer of dreams. For Yahwah your Father tests you, to know whether you love Yahwah your Father with all your heart, and with all your soul.

4 You will walk after Yahwah your Father, fear Him, keep His commandments, obey His voice, serve Him, and cleave to Him.

5 That prophet, or that dreamer of dreams, will be put to death, because he spoke rebellion against Yahwah your Father, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, and redeemed you out of the house of bondage, to draw you aside out of The Way Yahwah your Father commanded you to walk in. So you will put away the evil from the midst of you.

6 If your brother, the son of your mother, or your son, or your daughter, or the wife of your bosom, or your friend that is as your own soul, entice you secretly, saying: Let us go and serve the gods, which you have not known, you nor your fathers,

7 of the gods of the peoples that are round about you, near to you or far off from you, from the one end of the earth even to the other end of the earth;

8 you will not consent to him, nor hearken to him. Neither will your eye pity him, neither will you spare, neither will you conceal him.

9 But you will surely kill him. Your hand will be first upon him to put him to death, and afterwards the hand of all the people.

10 You will stone him to death with stones, because he tried to draw you away from Yahwah your Father, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.

11 All Yisrayah will hear, and fear, and will not do any more such wickedness as this is in the midst of you.

12 If you will hear tell concerning one of your cities, which Yahwah your Father gives you to dwell there, saying:

13 Certain base fellows are gone out from the midst of you, and have drawn away the inhabitants of their city, saying; Let us go and serve the gods, which you have not known.

14 Then you will inquire, make search, and ask diligently. Behold, if it is truth, and the thing certain, that such abomination is wrought in the midst of you,

15 you will surely smite the inhabitants of that city with the edge of the sword, destroying it utterly, all that is therein, and the cattle thereof, with the edge of the sword.

16 You will gather all the spoil of it into the midst of the street, and will burn the city with fire, and all the spoil thereof every bit, to Yahwah your Father. It will be a heap for ever, it will not be built again.

17 There will cleave nothing of the devoted thing to your hand, that Yahwah may turn from the fierceness of His anger, show you mercy, have compassion upon you, and multiply you, as He swore to your fathers.

18 You will hearken to the voice of Yahwah your Father, to keep all His commandments which I command you today, to do what is right in the eyes of Yahwah your Father.

Chapter 14

1 You are the children of Yahwah your Father. You will not cut yourselves, nor make any baldness between your eyes for the dead.

2 You are a holy people to Yahwah your Father. Yahwah chose you to be a people for His own possession, above all peoples that are upon the face of the earth.

3 You will not eat any abominable thing.

4 These are the beasts you may eat. The ox, the sheep, the goat,

5 the hart, the gazelle, the roebuck, the wild goat, the pygarg, the antelope, and the chamois.

6 Every beast that parts the hoof, and has the hoof cloven in two, and chews the cud, among the beasts, that you may eat.

7 Nevertheless these you will not eat of those who chew the cud, or of those who have the hoof cloven. The camel, the hare, and the coney. Because they chew the cud but not part the hoof, they are unclean to you.

8 The swine, because he parts the hoof but does not chew the cud, he is unclean to you. Of their flesh you will not eat, and their carcasses you will not touch.

9 These you may eat of all that are in the waters. Whatsoever has fins and scales you may eat.

10 Whatsoever does not have fins and scales you will not eat, it is unclean to you.

11 You may eat of all clean birds.

12 But these are they of which you will not eat. The eagle, the giereagle, the osprey,

13 the glede, the falcon, the kite after its kind,

14 every raven after its kind,

15 the ostrich, the night-hawk, the sea-mew, the hawk after its kind,

16 the little owl, the great owl, the horned owl,

17 the pelican, the vulture, the cormorant,

18 the stork, the heron after its kind, the hoopoe, and the bat.

19 All winged creeping things are unclean to you. They will not be eaten.

20 Of all clean birds you may eat.

21 You will not eat of anything that dies of itself. You may give it to the sojourner that is within your gates, that he may eat it. Or you may sell it to a foreigner. For you are a holy people to Yahwah your Father. You will not boil a kid in its mother's milk.

22 You will surely tithe all the increase of your seed, what comes forth from the field year by year.

23 You will eat before Yahwah your Father, in the place He will choose to cause His Name to dwell there, the tithe of your grain, of your new wine, of your oil, the firstlings of your herd, and of your flock, that you may learn to fear Yahwah your Father always.

24 If the way is too long for you, so you are not able to carry it, because the place is too far from you which Yahwah your Father will choose to set His Name there, when Yahwah your Father blesses you,

25 then you will turn it into money, take the money in your hand, and go to the place which Yahwah your Father will choose.

26 You will bestow the money for whatsoever your soul desires, for oxen, or for sheep, or for wine, or for strong drink, or for whatsoever your soul asks of you. You will eat there before Yahwah your Father, and you will rejoice, you and your household.

27 Do not forsake the Levite within your gates, for he has no portion nor inheritance with you.

28 At the end of every three years you will bring forth all the tithe of your increase in the same year, and will lay it up within your gates.

29 The Levite, because he has no portion nor inheritance with you, the sojourner, the fatherless, the widow, that are within your gates, will come, will eat, and be satisfied, that Yahwah your Father bless you in all the work of your hand which you do.

Chapter 15

1 At the end of every seven years you will make a release.

2 This is the manner of the release. Every creditor will release what he lent to his neighbor. He will not exact it of his neighbor and his brother, because Yahwah's release is proclaimed.

3 You may exact it of a foreigner. But your hand will release whatsoever of yours is with your brother.

4 Howbeit there will be no poor with you (for Yahwah will surely bless you in the land Yahwah your Father gives you for an inheritance to possess it)

5 if only you diligently hearken to the voice of Yahwah your Father, to observe to do all this commandments I command you today.

6 Yahwah your Father will bless you, as He promised you. You will lend to many nations, but you will not borrow. You will rule over many nations, but they will not rule over you.

7 If there is a poor man with you, one of your brothers, within any of your gates in your land Yahwah your Father gives you, you will not harden your heart, nor shut your hand from your poor brother.

8 Open your hand to him, lend him sufficient for his need in what he wants.

9 Beware there is not a base thought in your heart, saying: The seventh year, the year of release, is at hand. Then your eye is evil against your poor brother, and you give him nothing, and he cry to Yahwah against you, and it is sin to you.

10 You will surely give him, and your heart will not be grieved when you give to him. Yahwah your Father will bless you for this thing in all your work, and in all that you put your hand unto.

11 The poor will never cease out of the land. Therefore I command you, saying: You will surely open your hand to your brothers, to your needy, and to your poor, in your land.

12 If your brother, a Hebrew man or a Hebrew woman, is sold to you and serve you six years, then in the seventh year you will let him go free from you.

13 When you let him go free from you, you will not let him go empty.

14 You will furnish him liberally out of your flock, out of your threshing-floor, and out of your winepress. As Yahwah your Father blessed you, you will give to him.

15 You will remember you were a bondman in the land of Egypt, and Yahwah your Father redeemed you. Therefore I command you this thing today.

16 It will be, he might say to you: I will not go out from you. He loves you and your house, because he is well with you.

17 Then you will take an awl, thrust it through his ear to the door, and he will be your servant forever. Also to your maidservant you will do likewise.

18 It will not seem hard to you, when you let him go free from you. For to the double of the hire of a hireling he served you six years, and Yahwah your Father will bless you in all you do.

19 All the firstling males that are born of your herd and of your flock you will sanctify to Yahwah your Father. You will do no work with the firstling of your herd, nor shear the firstling of your flock.

20 You will eat it before Yahwah your Father year by year in the place Yahwah will choose, you, and your household.

21 If it has any blemish, as if it is lame or blind, any ill blemish whatsoever, you will not sacrifice it to Yahwah your Father.

22 You will eat it within your gates. The unclean and the clean will eat it alike, as the gazelle, and as the hart.

23 Only you will not eat the blood with it, you will pour it out upon the ground as water.

Chapter 16

1 Observe the month of Abib, and keep the Passover to Yahwah your Father. For in the month of Abib Yahwah your Father brought you forth out of Egypt by night.

2 You will sacrifice the passover to Yahwah your Father, of the flock, and the herd, in the place Yahwah will choose to cause His Name to dwell there.

3 You will eat no leavened bread with it. Seven days you will eat unleavened bread, even the bread of affliction (for you came forth out of the land of Egypt in haste), that you may remember the day when you came forth out of the land of Egypt all the days of your life.

4 There will be no leaven seen with you in all your borders seven days. Neither will any of the flesh, which you sacrifice the first day at even, remain all night until the morning.

5 You may not sacrifice the passover within any of your gates, which Yahwah your Father gives you.

6 But at the place which Yahwah your Father will choose to cause His Name to dwell in, there you will sacrifice the passover at even, at the going down of the sun, at the season that you came forth out of Egypt.

7 You will roast and eat it in the place Yahwah your Father will choose. You will turn in the morning, and go to your tents.

8 Six days you will eat unleavened bread. The seventh day is a solemn assembly to Yahwah your Father. You will do no work in it.

9 Seven weeks you will number to you. From the time you begin to put the sickle to the standing grain you will begin to number seven weeks.

10 You will keep the feast of weeks to Yahwah your Father with a tribute of a freewill-offering of your hand, which you will give, according as Yahwah your Father blesses you.

11 You will rejoice before Yahwah your Father, you, your son, your daughter, your man-servant, your maid-servant, the Levite that is within your gates, the sojourner, the fatherless, and the widow, that are in the midst of you, in the place Yahwah your Father will choose to cause His Name to dwell there.

12 You will remember you were a bondman in Egypt. You will observe and do these statutes.

13 You will keep the feast of tabernacles seven days, after you gather in from your threshing-floor, and from your winepress.

14 You will rejoice in your feast, you, your son, your daughter, your man-servant, your maid-servant, the Levite, the sojourner, the fatherless, and the widow, that are within your gates.

15 Seven days you will keep a feast to Yahwah your Father in the place Yahwah will choose, because Yahwah your Father will bless you in all your increase, in all the work of your hands, and you will be altogether joyful.

16 Three times in a year all your males will appear before Yahwah your Father in the place He will choose (in the feast of unleavened bread, in the feast of weeks, and in the feast of tabernacles), and will not see My face empty-handed.

17 Every man will give as he is able, according to the blessing of Yahwah your Father which He gives you.

18 Make judges and officers in all your gates, which Yahwah your Father gives you, according to your tribes. They will judge the people with righteous judgment.

19 You will not wrest justice. You will not respect persons. Neither will you take a bribe, for a bribe blinds the eyes of the wise, and perverts the words of the righteous.

20 Follow what is altogether just, that you may live, and inherit the land Yahwah your Father gives you.

21 You will not plant an Easter idol of any kind of tree beside the altar of Yahwah your Father, which you will make.

22 Neither will you set up a pillar, which Yahwah your Father hates.

Chapter 17

1 You will not sacrifice to Yahwah your Father an ox, or a sheep, in which is a blemish, or anything evil. For that is an abomination to Yahwah your Father.

2 If there is found in the midst of you, within any of your gates Yahwah your Father gives you, man or woman who does what is evil in the sight of Yahwah your Father, in transgressing His covenant,

3 who went and served the gods, and worshipped them, or the sun, or the moon, or any of the host of heaven, which I did not command;

4 and it is told you, and you hear of it, then you will inquire diligently. Behold, if it is true, and the thing certain, that such abomination is wrought in Yisrayah,

5 you will bring forth to your gates that man or that woman who did this evil thing, even the man or the woman. You will stone them to death with stones.

6 He who is to die will be put to death at the mouth of two witnesses, or three witnesses. He will not be put to death at the mouth of one witness.

7 The hand of the witnesses will be first upon him to put him to death, and afterward the hand of all the people. So you will put away the evil from the midst of you.

8 If there arise a matter too hard for you in judgment, between blood and blood, between plea and plea, or between stroke and stroke, being matters of controversy within your gates, then you will arise, and get you up to the place Yahwah your Father will choose.

9 You will come to the priests the Levites, and to the judge that will be in those days. You will inquire, and they will show you the sentence of judgment.

10 You will do according to the tenor of the sentence they show you from that place Yahwah will choose. You will observe to do according to all they will teach you,

11 according to the tenor of the torah they teach you, and according to the judgment they tell you, you will do. You will not turn aside from the sentence they show you, to the right hand, nor to the left.

12 The man who does presumptuously, in not hearkening to the priest who stands to minister there before Yahwah your Father, or to the judge, even that man will die. You will put away the evil from Yisrayah.

13 All the people will hear, fear, and not do presumptuously.

14 When you are come to the land Yahwah your Father gives you, possess it, dwell therein, and say: I will set a king over me, like all the nations that are round about me.

15 You will surely set him king over you whom Yahwah your Father will choose. One from among your brothers you will set king over you. You may not put a foreigner over you, who is not your brother.

16 Only he will not multiply horses to himself, nor cause the people to return to Egypt, to the end he may multiply horses, forasmuch as Yahwah said to you: You will not return that way.

17 Neither will he multiply wives to himself, that his heart not turn away. Neither will he greatly multiply silver and gold to himself.

18 It will be, when he sits upon the throne of his kingdom, he will write him a copy of this law in a book, out of what is before the priests the Levites.

19 It will be with him, and he will read it all the days of his life, that he may learn to fear Yahwah his Father, to keep all the words of these instructions, and these statutes, to do them,

20 so his heart is not lifted up above his brothers, and that he not turn aside from the commandments, to the right hand, or to the left, to the end that he may prolong his days in his kingdom, he and his children, in the midst of Yisrayah.

Chapter 18

1 The priests, the Levites, even all the tribe of Levi, will have no portion nor inheritance with Yisrayah. They will eat the offerings of Yahwah made by fire, and His inheritance.

2 They will have no inheritance among their brothers. Yahwah is their inheritance, as He spoke to them.

3 This will be the priests' due from the people, from those who offer a sacrifice, whether it is ox or sheep, they will give to the priest the shoulder, the two cheeks, and the maw.

4 You will give him the first-fruits of your grain, of your new wine, of your oil, and the first of the fleece of your sheep.

5 Yahwah your Father chose him out of all your tribes, to stand to minister in the Name of Yahwah, him and his sons for ever.

6 If a Levite come from any of your gates out of all Yisrayah, where he sojourns, and come with all the desire of his soul to the place Yahwah will choose,

7 then he will minister in the Name of Yahwah his Father, as all his brothers the Levites do, who stand there before Yahwah.

8 They will have like portions to eat, besides what comes of the sale of his patrimony.

9 When you are come into the land Yahwah your Father gives you, you will not learn to do after the abominations of those nations.

10 There will not be found with you any one that makes his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, one that uses divination, one that practises augury, or an enchanter, or a sorcerer,

11 or a charmer, or a consulter with a familiar spirit, or a wizard, or a necromancer.

12 Whosoever does these things is an abomination to Yahwah, and because of these abominations Yahwah your Father drives them out from before you.

13 You will be perfect with Yahwah your Father.

14 These nations you dispossess hearken to those who practise augury, and to diviners. But as for you, Yahwah your Father does not allow you to do so.

15 Yahwah your Father will raise up to you a prophet like to me from the midst of you, of your brothers.

16 Hearken to him according to all you desired of Yahwah your Father in Horeb in the day of the assembly, saying: Let me not hear the voice of Yahwah my Father again, neither let me see this great fire any more, that I not die.

17 Yahwah said to me: They well said what they spoke.

18 I will raise them up a prophet like to you, from among their brothers. I will put my words in His mouth, and He will speak to them all I command him.

19 It will come to pass, whosoever will not hearken to My words He speaks in My Name, I will require it of him.

20 But the prophet who speaks a word presumptuously in my Name, which I did not command him to speak, or who speaks in the name of the gods, that same prophet will die.

21 If you say in your heart: How will we know the word Yahwah did not say?

22 When a prophet speaks in the Name of Yahwah, if the thing does not follow, nor come to pass, that is the thing Yahwah did not say. The prophet spoke it presumptuously, you will not be afraid of him.

Chapter 19

1 When Yahwah your Father cuts off the nations whose land Yahwah your Father gives you, and you succeed them, dwell in their cities, and in their houses,

2 you will set apart three cities for you in the midst of your land Yahwah your Father gives you to possess it.

3 You will prepare the way, and divide the borders of your land Yahwah your Father causes you to inherit into three parts, that every manslayer may flee there.

4 This is the case of the manslayer, that will flee there, and live. Whoso kills his neighbor unawares, and did not hate him in time past

5 (as when a man goes into the forest with his neighbor to hew wood, his hand fetches a stroke with the axe to cut down the tree, the head slips from the helve, and lights upon his neighbor, so he dies), he will flee to one of these cities, and live.

6 Lest the avenger of blood pursue the manslayer, while his heart is hot, overtake him, because the way is long, and smite him mortally, whereas he was not worthy of death, inasmuch as he did not hate him in time past.

7 Wherefore I command you, saying: You will set apart three cities for you.

8 If Yahwah your Father enlarges your border, as He swore to your fathers, and give you all the land He promised to give to your fathers

9 (if you keep all this commandments to do it, which I command you this day, to love Yahwah your Father, and to walk ever in His ways), then you will add three cities more for you, besides these three;

10 that innocent blood not be shed in the midst of your land, which Yahwah your Father gives you for an inheritance, and so blood be upon you.

11 But if any man hate his neighbor, lie in wait for him, rise up against him, smite him mortally so he dies, and he flee into one of these cities;

12 then the elders of his city will send, fetch him there, and deliver him into the hand of the avenger of blood, that he die.

13 Your eye will not pity him, but you will put away the innocent blood from Yisrayah, that it may go well with you.

14 You will not remove your neighbor's landmark, which they of old time set, in your inheritance you inherit, in the land Yahwah your Father gives you to possess it.

15 One witness will not rise up against a man for any iniquity, or for any sin, in any sin he sins. A matter will be established at the mouth of two witnesses, or at the mouth of three witnesses.

16 If an unrighteous witness rise up against any man to testify against him of wrong-doing,

17 then both the men, between whom the controversy is, will stand before Yahwah, before the priests and the judges that will be in those days.

18 The judges will make diligent inquisition. Behold, if the witness is a false witness, and testified falsely against his brother,

19 then you will do to him as he thought to do to his brother. So you will put away the evil from the midst of you.

20 Those who remain will hear, fear, and will henceforth not commit any such evil in the midst of you.

21 Your eyes will not pity. Life will go for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot.

Chapter 20

1 When you go forth to battle against your enemies, and see horses, chariots, and a people more than you, do not be afraid of them. Yahwah your Father is with you, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt.

2 It will be when you draw near to the battle, the priest will approach, speak to the people,

3 and say to them: Hear, O Yisrayah, you draw near today to battle against your enemies. Do not let your heart faint. Do not fear, nor tremble, neither be frightened at them.

4 Yahwah your Father is He who goes with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you.

5 The officers will speak to the people, saying: What man is there who built a new house, and did not dedicate it? Let him go, and return to his house, unless he die in the battle, and another man dedicate it.

6 What man is there who planted a vineyard, and did not use the fruit thereof? Let him go and return to his house, in case he die in the battle, and another man eat the fruit.

7 What man is there who betrothed a wife, and has not taken her? Let him go and return to his house, in case he die in the battle, and another man take her.

8 The officers will speak further to the people, and they will say: What man is there who is fearful, and faint-hearted? Let him go and return to his house, unless his brothers's heart melt as his heart.

9 It will be, when the officers make an end of speaking to the people, they will appoint captains of hosts at the head of the people.

10 When you draw near to a city to fight against it, then proclaim peace to it.

11 It will be, if it makes you answer of peace, and opens to you, it will be all the people found in it will become tributary to you, and will serve you.

12 If it will not make peace with you, but will make war against you, then you will besiege it.

13 When Yahwah your Father delivers it into your hand, you will smite every male with the edge of the sword.

14 But the women, the little ones, the cattle, and all that is in the city, even all the spoil thereof, you will take for a prey to yourself. You will eat the spoil of your enemies which Yahwah your Father gives you.

15 Thus you will do to all the cities which are very far off from you, which are not of the cities of these nations.

16 But of the cities of these peoples Yahwah your Father gives you for an inheritance, you will save alive nothing that breathes.

17 Destroy them utterly (the Hittite, the Amorite, the Canaanite, the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite) as Yahwah your Father commanded you,

18 that they not teach you to do after all their abominations, which they did to their gods. So you would sin against Yahwah your Father.

19 When you will besiege a city a long time, in making war against it to take it, you will not destroy the trees thereof by wielding an axe against them. You may eat of them, and you will not cut them down. Is the tree of the field a man, that it should be besieged of you?

20 Only the trees of which you know are not trees for food, you will destroy, and cut them down. You will build bulwarks against the city that makes war with you, until it falls.

Chapter 21

1 If one is found slain in the land Yahwah your Father gives you to possess it, lying in the field, and it is not known who killed him,

2 your elders and your judges will come forth, and they will measure to the cities round about him who is slain.

3 It will be, the city which is nearest to the slain man, even the elders of that city will take a heifer of the herd, which has not been wrought with, and which has not drawn in the yoke.

4 The elders of that city will bring down the heifer to a valley with running water, which is neither plowed nor sown, and will break the heifer's neck there in the valley.

5 The priests the sons of Levi will come near (for Yahwah your Father chose them to minister to Him, and to bless in the Name of Yahwah, and according to their word every controversy and every stroke will be).

6 All the elders of that city who are nearest to the slain man, will wash their hands over the heifer whose neck was broken in the valley.

7 They will answer, and say: Our hands did not shed this blood, nor did our eyes see it.

8 O Yahwah, forgive your people Yisrayah, whom you redeemed, and not allow innocent blood to remain in the midst of your people Yisrayah. The blood will be forgiven them.

9 So you will put away the innocent blood from the midst of you, when you do what is right in the eyes of Yahwah.

10 When you go forth to battle against your enemies, and Yahwah your Father delivers them into your hands, and you carry them away captive,

11 and see among the captives a beautiful woman, and you have a desire to her, and would take her to you to wife,

12 then bring her home to your house. She will shave her head, and pare her nails.

13 She will take off the garments of her captivity, and will remain in your house, and bewail her father and her mother a full month. After that you will go in to her, be her husband, and she will be your wife.

14 It will be, if you have no delight in her, you will let her go where she will. You will not at all sell her for money, you will not deal with her as a slave, because you humbled her.

15 If a man has two wives, the one beloved and the other hated, and they have borne him children, both the beloved and the hated, and if the first-born son is hers who is hated,

16 then it will be, in the day he causes his sons to inherit what he has, he may not make the son of the beloved the firstborn before the son of the hated, who is the first-born.

17 He will acknowledge the first-born, the son of the hated, by giving him a double portion of all he has, for he is the beginning of his strength. The right of the first-born is his.

18 If a man has a stubborn and rebellious son that will not obey the voice of his father, or the voice of his mother, and, though they chastise him, will not hearken to them.

19 Then his father and his mother will lay hold on him, and bring him out to the elders of his city, to the gate of his place.

20 They will say to the elders of his city: This our son is stubborn, rebellious, and he will not obey our voice. He is a glutton, and a drunkard.

21 All the men of his city will stone him to death with stones. So you will put away the evil from the midst of you. All Yisrayah will hear, and fear.

22 If a man commits a sin worthy of death, if he is put to death, and you hang him on a tree,

23 his body will not remain upon the tree all night. You will surely bury him the same day (for he who is hanged is accursed of Yahwah). So you will not defile your land Yahwah your Father gives you for an inheritance.

Chapter 22

1 You will not see your brother's ox or his sheep go astray, and hide yourself from them. You will surely bring them again to your brother.

2 If your brother is not near to you, or if you do not know him, then you will bring it home to your house. It will be with you until your brother seeks after it, and you will restore it to him.

3 And so you will do with his ass. And so you will do with his garment. And so you will do with every lost thing of your brother's, which he lost, and you found. You may not hide yourself.

4 You will not see your brother's ass or his ox fallen down by the way, and hide yourself from them. You will surely help him to lift them up again.

5 A woman will not wear what pertains to a man, neither will a man put on a woman's garment, for whosoever does these things is an abomination to Yahwah your Father.

6 If a bird's nest chance to be before you in the way, in any tree or on the ground, with young ones or eggs, and the mother sitting upon the young, or upon the eggs, you will not take the mother with the young.

7 You will surely let the mother go, but the young you may take to yourself, that it may be well with you, and that you may prolong your days.

8 When you build a new house, make a railing for your roof, that you not bring blood upon your house if any man fall from there.

9 Do not sow your vineyard with two kinds of seed, lest the whole fruit be forfeited, the seed you have sowed, and the increase of the vineyard.

10 Do not plow with an ox and an ass together.

11 Do not wear a mingled stuff, wool and linen together.

12 You will make fringes upon the four borders of your vesture, with which you cover yourself.

13 If any man take a wife, go in to her, hate her,

14 lay shameful things to her charge, bring up an evil name upon her, and say: I took this woman, and when I came near to her, I did not find the tokens of virginity in her.

15 The father of the damsel, and her mother, will take and bring forth the tokens of the damsel's virginity to the elders of the city in the gate.

16 The damsel's father will say to the elders: I gave my daughter to this man to wife, and he hates her.

17 Lo, he laid shameful things to her charge, saying: I did not find the tokens of virginity in your daughter. And yet these are the tokens of my daughter's virginity. They will spread the garment before the elders of the city.

18 The elders of that city will take the man, and chastise him.

19 They will fine him a hundred shekels of silver, and give them to the father of the damsel, because he brought up an evil name upon a virgin of Yisrayah. She will be his wife, he may not put her away all his days.

20 But if this thing is true, that the tokens of virginity were not found in the damsel.

21 Then they will bring out the damsel to the door of her father's house, and the men of her city will stone her to death with stones, because she has wrought folly in Yisrayah, to play the harlot in her father's house. So you will put away the evil from the midst of you.

22 If a man is found lying with a woman married to a husband, then they will both of them die, the man that lay with the woman, and the woman. So you will put away the evil from Yisrayah.

23 If there is a damsel who is a virgin betrothed to a husband, and a man find her in the city, and lie with her.

24 Then you will bring them both out to the gate of that city, and you will stone them to death with stones. The damsel because she did not cry, being in the city. The man because he humbled his neighbor's wife. So you will put away the evil from the midst of you.

25 But if the man find the damsel that is betrothed in the field, and the man force her, and lie with her, then the man only that lay with her will die.

26 You will do nothing to the damsel. There is no sin worthy of death in the damsel. As when a man rises against his neighbor, and slays him, even so is this matter.

27 He found her in the field, the betrothed damsel cried, and there was none to save her.

28 If a man finds a damsel that is a virgin, that is not betrothed, and lay hold on her, lie with her, and they are found,

29 then the man that lay with her will give fifty shekels of silver to the damsel's father. She will be his wife, because he humbled her. He may not put her away all his days.

30 A man will not take his father's wife, and will not uncover his father's skirt.

Chapter 23

1 He that is wounded in the stones, or has his privy member cut off, will not enter into the assembly of Yahwah.

2 A bastard will not enter into the assembly of Yahwah. Even to the tenth generation will none of his enter into the assembly of Yahwah.

3 An Ammonite or a Moabite [children of Lot] will not enter into the assembly of Yahwah. Even to the tenth generation will none belonging to them enter into the assembly of Yahwah for ever,

4 because they did not meet you with bread and with water in the way, when you came forth out of Egypt, and because they hired against you Balaam the son of Beor [the magician] from Pethor [temple of Babylon] of Mesopotamia [Aram-naharain = Syria of the two rivers], to curse you.

5 Nevertheless Yahwah your Father would not hearken to Balaam. Yahwah your Father turned the curse into a blessing to you, because Yahwah your Father loved you.

6 You will not seek their peace nor their prosperity all your days for ever.

7 You will not abhor an Edomite [children of Esau], for he is your brother. You will not abhor an Egyptian, because you were a sojourner in his land.

8 The children of the third generation that are born to them will enter into the assembly of Yahwah.

9 When you go forth in camp against your enemies, then you will keep from every evil thing.

10 If there is any man among you who is not clean by reason of what chanced him by night, then he will go abroad out of the camp, he will not come within the camp.

11 It will be, when evening comes on, he will bathe himself in water. When the sun is down, he will come within the camp.

12 You will have a place also without the camp, where you will go forth abroad,

13 and you will have a paddle among your weapons. It will be, when you sit down abroad, you will dig a hole, will turn back, and cover what comes from you.

14 Yahwah your Father walks in the midst of your camp, to deliver you, and to give up your enemies before you. Therefore your camp will be holy, that He not see an unclean thing in you, and turn away from you.

15 You will not deliver to his master a servant that is escaped from his master to you.

16 He will dwell with you, in the midst of you, in the place he will choose within one of your gates, where it pleases him best. You will not oppress him.

17 There will be no prostitute of the daughters of Yisrayah, neither will there be a sodomite of the sons of Yisrayah.

18 You will not bring the hire of a harlot, or the wages of a dog, into the house of Yahwah your Father for any vow. For even both these are an abomination to Yahwah your Father.

19 You will not lend to your brother upon interest, interest of money, interest of victuals, interest of anything that is lent upon interest.

20 To a foreigner you may lend upon interest, but to your brother you will not lend upon interest, that Yahwah your Father bless you in all you put your hand unto, in the land where you go in to possess it.

21 When you vow a vow to Yahwah your Father, you will not be slack to pay it. Yahwah your Father will surely require it of you, and it would be sin in you.

22 But if you will forbear to vow, it will be no sin in you.

23 You will observe, and do, what is gone out of your lips, according as you vowed to Yahwah your Father, a freewill-offering you promised with your mouth.

24 When you come into your neighbor's vineyard, then you may eat your fill of grapes at your own pleasure, but you will not put any in your vessel.

25 When you come into your neighbor's standing grain, you may pluck the ears with your hand, but you will not move a sickle to your neighbor's standing grain.

Chapter 24

1 When a man takes a wife, and marries her, then it will be, if she find no favor in his eyes, because he found some unseemly thing in her, he will write her a bill of divorcement, give it in her hand, and send her out of his house.

2 When she is departed out of his house, she may go and be another man's wife.

3 If the latter husband hate her, write her a bill of divorcement, give it in her hand, and send her out of his house (or if the latter husband die, who took her to be his wife),

4 her former husband who sent her away may not take her again to be his wife, after that she is defiled. That is abomination before Yahwah, and you will not cause the land to sin, which Yahwah your Father gives you for an inheritance.

5 When a man takes a new wife, he will not go out in the army, nor will he be charged with any business. He will be free at home one year, and will cheer his wife whom he took.

6 No man will take the mill or the upper millstone to pledge, for he takes a man's life to pledge.

7 If a man is found stealing any of his brothers of the children of Yisrayah, and he deal with him as a slave, or sell him, then that thief will die. So you will put away the evil from the midst of you.

8 Take heed in the plague of leprosy, that you observe diligently, and do according to all the priests the Levites will teach you. As I commanded them, so you will observe to do.

9 Remember what Yahwah your Father did to Miriam, by the way as you came forth out of Egypt.

10 When you lend your neighbor any manner of loan, you will not go into his house to fetch his pledge.

11 You will stand outside, and the man to whom you did lend will bring forth the pledge outside to you.

12 If he is a poor man, you will not sleep with his pledge.

13 You will surely restore to him the pledge when the sun goes down, that he may sleep in his garment, and bless you. It will be righteousness to you before Yahwah your Father.

14 You will not oppress a hired servant that is poor and needy, whether he is of your brothers, or of your sojourners that are in your land within your gates.

15 In his day you will give him his hire, neither will the sun go down upon it (for he is poor, and sets his heart upon it), lest he cry against you to Yahwah, and it is sin to you.

16 The fathers will not be put to death for the children, neither will the children be put to death for the fathers. Every man will be put to death for his own sin.

17 You will not wrest the justice due to the sojourner, or to the fatherless, nor take the widow's garment to pledge.

18 You will remember you were a bondman in Egypt, and Yahwah your Father redeemed you from there. Therefore I command you to do this thing.

19 When you reap your harvest in your field, and forget a sheaf in the field, you will not go again to fetch it. It will be for the sojourner, for the fatherless, and for the widow, that Yahwah your Father may bless you in all the work of your hands.

20 When you beat your olive-tree, you will not go over the boughs again. It will be for the sojourner, for the fatherless, and for the widow.

21 When you gather the grapes of your vineyard, you will not glean it after you. It will be for the sojourner, for the fatherless, and for the widow.

22 You will remember you were a bondman in the land of Egypt, therefore I command you to do this thing.

Chapter 25

1 If there is a controversy between men, and they come to judgment, and the judges judge them, they will justify the righteous, and condemn the wicked.

2 It will be, if the wicked man is worthy to be beaten, the judge will cause him to lie down, and to be beaten before his face, according to his wickedness, by number.

3 Forty stripes he may give him, he will not exceed. Otherwise, if he should exceed, and beat him above these with many stripes, then your brother should seem vile to you.

4 You will not muzzle the ox when he treads out the grain.

5 If brothers dwell together, and one of them die, and have no son, the wife of the dead will not be married without to a stranger. Her husband's brother will go in to her, take her to him to wife, and perform the duty of a husband's brother to her.

6 It will be, the first-born she bears will succeed in the name of his brother that is dead, that his name is not blotted out of Yisrayah.

7 If the man not like to take his brother's wife, then his brother's wife will go up to the gate to the elders, and say: My husband's brother refuses to raise up to his brother a name in Yisrayah. He will not perform the duty of a husband's brother to me.

8 Then the elders of his city will call him, and speak to him. If he stand, and say: I like not to take her.

9 Then his brother's wife will come to him in the presence of the elders, loose his shoe from off his foot, and spit in his face. She will answer, and say: So will it be done to the man that does not build up his brother's house.

10 His name will be called in Yisrayah: The house of him that has his shoe loosed.

11 When men strive together one with another, and the wife of the one draws near to deliver her husband out of the hand of him that smites him, puts forth her hand, and takes him by the secrets,

12 then you will cut off her hand, your eye will have no pity.

13 You will not have different weights in your bag, a great and a small.

14 You will not have different measures in your house, a great and a small.

15 A perfect and just weight you will have, a perfect and just measure you will have, that your days may be long in the land which Yahwah your Father gives you.

16 All who do such things, even all who do unrighteously, are an abomination to Yahwah your Father.

17 Remember what Amalek did to you by the way as you came forth out of Egypt.

18 How he met you by the way, and smote the hindmost of you, all that were feeble behind you, when you were faint and weary. He did not fear Yahwah.

19 Therefore it will be, when Yahwah your Father gives you rest from all your enemies round about, in the land Yahwah your Father gives you for an inheritance to possess it, you will blot out the descendants of Amalek from under heaven. You will not forget.

Chapter 26

1 It will be, when you are come in to the land Yahwah your Father gives you for an inheritance, possess it, and dwell in it,

2 you will take of the first of all the fruit of the ground, which you will bring in from your land Yahwah your Father gives you. You will put it in a basket, and will go to the place Yahwah your Father will choose, to cause His Name to dwell there.

3 You will come to the priest that will be in those days, and say to him: I profess today to Yahwah our Father, I am come to the land Yahwah swore to our fathers to give us.

4 The priest will take the basket out of your hand, and set it down before the altar of Yahwah your Father.

5 You will answer, and say before Yahwah your Father: My father was a Syrian ready to perish. He went down into Egypt, and sojourned there, few in number. He became a nation there, great, mighty, and populous.

6 The Egyptians dealt ill with us, afflicted us, and laid hard bondage upon us.

7 We cried to Yahwah, the Father of our fathers. Yahwah heard our voice, saw our affliction, our toil, and our oppression.

8 Yahwah brought us forth out of Egypt with a mighty hand, with an outstretched arm, with great terribleness, with signs, and with wonders.

9 He brought us into this place, and gave us this land, a land flowing with milk and honey.

10 Behold, I brought the first of the fruit of the ground, which you, O Yahwah, gave me. You will set it down before Yahwah your Father, and worship before Yahwah your Father.

11 You will rejoice in all the good Yahwah your Father gives to you, to your house, you, the Levite, and the sojourner that is in the midst of you.

12 When you make an end of tithing all the tithe of your increase in the third year, which is the year of tithing, then you will give it to the Levite, to the sojourner, to the fatherless, and to the widow, that they may eat within your gates, and be filled.

13 You will say before Yahwah your Father: I put away the hallowed things out of my house, and gave them to the Levite, to the sojourner, to the fatherless, and to the widow, according to all your commandments you commanded me. I did not transgress any of your commandments, neither did I forget them.

14 I did not eat thereof in my mourning, neither did I put away thereof, being unclean, nor given thereof for the dead. I hearkened to the voice of Yahwah my Father. I did according to all you commanded me.

15 Look down from your holy habitation, from heaven. Bless your people Yisrayah, and the ground you gave us, as you swore to our fathers, a land flowing with milk and honey.

16 Today Yahwah your Father commands you to do these statutes and ordinances. You will keep and do them with all your heart, and with all your soul.

17 You avouched Yahwah today to be your Father, that you would walk in His ways, keep His statutes, His commandments, His ordinances, and hearken to His voice.

18 Yahwah avouched you today to be a people for His own possession, as He promised you, and that you should keep all His commandments.

19 He will make you high above all nations He made, in praise, in name, and in honor, that you may be a holy people to Yahwah your Father, as He said.

Chapter 27

1 Moshe and the elders of Yisrayah commanded the people, saying: Keep all the commandments I command you today.

2 It will be on the day when you will pass over the Yordan to the land Yahwah your Father gives you, you will set you up great stones, and plaster them with plaster.

3 You will write upon them all the words of this law, when you are passed over, that you may go in to the land Yahwah your Father gives you, a land flowing with milk and honey, as Yahwah, the Father of your fathers, promised you.

4 It will be, when you are passed over the Yordan, you will set up these stones, which I command you today, in mount Ebal, and you will plaster them with plaster.

5 There you will build an altar to Yahwah your Father, an altar of stones. You will lift up no iron tool upon them.

6 You will build the altar of Yahwah your Father of unhewn stones. You will offer burnt-offerings on it to Yahwah your Father.

7 You will sacrifice peace-offerings, will eat there, and you will rejoice before Yahwah your Father.

8 Write all the words of this law very plainly upon the stones.

9 Moshe and the priests the Levites spoke to all Yisrayah, saying: Keep silence, and hearken, O Yisrayah. Today you are become the people of Yahwah your Father.

10 You will obey the voice of Yahwah your Father, and do His commandments and His statutes, which I command you today.

11 Moshe charged the people the same day, saying:

12 These will stand upon mount Gerizim to bless the people, when you are passed over the Yordan: Simeon, Levi, Yahudah [Judah], Issachar, Yahusef [Joseph], and Benyamin.

13 These will stand upon mount Ebal for the curse: Reuben, Gad, Asher, Zebulun, Dan, and Naphtali.

14 The Levites will answer, and say to all the men of Yisrayah with a loud voice:

15 Cursed is the man who makes a graven or molten image, an abomination to Yahwah, the work of the hands of the craftsman, and sets it up in secret. All the people will answer, and say: Amein.

16 Cursed is he who sets light by his father or his mother. All the people will say: Amein.

17 Cursed is he who removes his neighbor's landmark. All the people will say: Amein.

18 Cursed is he who makes the blind to wander out of the way. All the people will say: Amein.

19 Cursed is he who wrests the justice due to the sojourner, fatherless, and widow. All the people will say: Amein.

20 Cursed is he who lies with his father's wife, because he uncovered his father's skirt. All the people will say: Amein.

21 Cursed is he who lies with any manner of beast. All the people will say: Amein.

22 Cursed is he who lies with his sister, the daughter of his father, or the daughter of his mother. All the people will say: Amein.

23 Cursed is he who lies with his mother-in-law. All the people will say: Amein.

24 Cursed is he who smites his neighbor in secret. All the people will say: Amein.

25 Cursed is he who takes a bribe to slay an innocent person. All the people will say: Amein.

26 Cursed is he who does not confirm the words of this law, to do them. All the people will say: Amein.

Chapter 28

1 It will come to pass, if you hearken diligently to the voice of Yahwah your Father, to observe to do all His commandments I command you today, Yahwah your Father will set you on high above all the nations of the earth.

2 All these blessings will come upon you, and overtake you, if you will hearken to the voice of Yahwah your Father.

3 Blessed will you be in the city, and blessed will you be in the field.

4 Blessed will be the fruit of your body, the fruit of your ground, the fruit of your beasts, the increase of your cattle, and the young of your flock.

5 Blessed will be your basket and your kneading-trough.

6 Blessed will you be when you come in, and blessed will you be when you go out.

7 Yahwah will cause your enemies that rise up against you to be smitten before you. They will come out against you one way, and will flee before you seven ways.

8 Yahwah will command the blessing upon you in your barns, and in all you put your hand to. He will bless you in the land Yahwah your Father gives you.

9 Yahwah will establish you for a holy people to Himself, as He swore to you, if you keep the commandments of Yahwah your Father, and walk in His ways.

10 All the peoples of the earth will see you are called by the Name of Yahwah, and they will be afraid of you.

11 Yahwah will make you plenteous for good, in the fruit of your body, in the fruit of your cattle, and in the fruit of your ground, in the land Yahwah swore to your fathers to give you.

12 Yahwah will open His good treasure the heavens to you, to give the rain of your land in its season, and to bless all the work of your hand. You will lend to many nations, and you will not borrow.

13 Yahwah will make you the head, and not the tail. You will be above only, and you will not be beneath, if you will hearken to the commandments of Yahwah your Father, which I command you this day, to observe and to do them,

14 and do not turn aside from any of the words I command you today, to the right hand, or to the left, or to go after the gods to serve them.

15 It will come to pass, if you will not hearken to the voice of Yahwah your Father, to observe to do all His commandments and His statutes which I command you this day, that all these curses will come upon you, and overtake you:

16 Cursed you will be in the city, and cursed you will be in the field.

17 Cursed will be your basket, and your kneading-trough.

18 Cursed will be the fruit of your body, the fruit of your ground, the increase of your cattle, and the young of your flock.

19 Cursed you will be when you come in, and cursed you will be when you go out.

20 Yahwah will send upon you cursing, discomfiture, and rebuke, in all you put your hand to to do, until you are destroyed, and until you perish quickly, because of the evil of your doings by which you forgot me.

21 Yahwah will make the pestilence cleave to you, until He consumes you from off the land, where you go in to possess it.

22 Yahwah will smite you with consumption, with fever, with inflammation, with fiery heat, with the sword, with blasting, and with mildew. They will pursue you until you perish.

23 Your heaven over your head will be bronze, and the earth under you will be iron.

24 Yahwah will make the rain of your land powder and dust. From heaven it will come down upon you, until you are destroyed.

25 Yahwah will cause you to be smitten before your enemies. You will go out one way against them, and will flee seven ways before them. You will be tossed to and fro among all the kingdoms of the earth.

26 Your dead body will be food to all birds of the heavens, and to the beasts of the earth. There will be none to frighten them away.

27 Yahwah will smite you with the boil of Egypt, with the emerods, with the scurvy, and with the itch whereof you can not be healed [herpes].

28 Yahwah will smite you with madness, with blindness, and with astonishment of heart.

29 You will grope at noonday, as the blind gropes in darkness. You will not prosper in your ways. You will be only oppressed and robbed always, and there will be none to save you.

30 You will betroth a wife, and another man will have sex with her. You will build a house, and you will not dwell in it. You will plant a vineyard, and will not eat the fruit.

31 Your ox will be slain before your eyes, and you will not eat it. Your ass will be violently taken away from before your face, and will not be restored to you. Your sheep will be given to your enemies, and you will have none to save you.

32 Your sons and your daughters will be given to another people. Your eyes will look, and fail with longing for them all the day. There will be nothing in the power of your hand.

33 A nation you do not know will eat up the fruit of your ground, and all your labors. You will be only oppressed and crushed always.

34 You will be mad for the sight of your eyes which you see.

35 Yahwah will smite you in the knees, and in the legs, with a sore boil, whereof you can not be healed, from the sole of your foot to the crown of your head.

36 Yahwah will bring you, and your king whom you set over you, to a nation that you have not known, you nor your fathers. There you will serve idols, wood and stone.

37 You will become an astonishment, a proverb, and a byword, among all the peoples where Yahwah will lead you away.

38 You will carry much seed out into the field, and will gather little in, for the locust will consume it.

39 You will plant vineyards and dress them, but you will neither drink of the wine, nor gather the grapes, for the worm will eat them.

40 You will have olive-trees throughout all your borders, but you will not anoint yourself with the oil, for your olive will cast its fruit.

41 You will beget sons and daughters, but they will not be yours, for they will go into captivity.

42 The locust will possess all your trees, and the fruit of your ground.

43 The sojourner that is in the midst of you will mount up above you higher and higher, and you will come down lower and lower.

44 He will lend to you, and you will not lend to him. He will be the head, and you will be the tail.

45 All these curses will come upon you, will pursue you, and overtake you till you are destroyed, because you did not hearken to the voice of Yahwah your Father, to keep His commandments and His statutes which He commanded you.

46 They will be upon you for a sign, and for a wonder, upon your seed forever.

47 You did not serve Yahwah your Father with joyfulness, and with gladness of heart, by reason of the abundance of all things.

48 Therefore you will serve your enemies Yahwah will send against you, in hunger, in thirst, in nakedness, and in want of all things. He will put a yoke of iron upon your neck, until He destroys you.

49 Yahwah will bring a nation against you from far, from the end of the earth, as the eagle flies. A nation whose tongue you will not understand.

50 A nation of fierce countenance, that will not regard the person of the old, nor show favor to the young.

51 They will eat the fruit of your cattle, and the fruit of your ground, until you are destroyed. Who also will not leave you grain, new wine, or oil, the increase of your cattle, or the young of your flock, until they cause you to perish.

52 They will besiege you in all your gates, until your high and fortified walls come down, in which you trusted throughout all your land. They will besiege you in all your gates throughout all your land, which Yahwah your Father gives you.

53 In the siege and in the distress with which your enemies will distress you, you will eat the fruit of your own body, the flesh of your sons, and of your daughters, whom Yahwah your Father gave you.

54 The man that is tender among you, and very delicate, his eye will be evil toward his brother, toward the wife of his bosom, and toward the remnant of his children whom he has remaining.

55 He will not give to any of them of the flesh of his children whom he will eat, because he has nothing left him, in the siege and in the distress with which your enemy will distress you in all your gates.

56 The tender and delicate woman among you, who would not adventure to set the sole of her foot upon the ground for delicateness and tenderness, her eye will be evil toward the husband of her bosom, toward her son, toward her daughter,

57 toward her young one that comes out from between her feet, and toward her children whom she will bear. She will eat them for want of all things, secretly, in the siege and in the distress with which your enemy will distress you in your gates.

58 If you will not observe to do all the words of this law that are written in this book (that you may fear this glorious and fearful Name: Yahwah your Father)

59 Yahwah will make your plagues wonderful, and the plagues of your seed, even great plagues, of long continuance, sore sicknesses, and of long continuance.

60 He will bring all the diseases of Egypt upon you again, which you were afraid of, and they will cleave to you.

61 Also every sickness, and every plague, which is not written in the book of this law, Yahwah will bring them upon you, until you are destroyed.

62 You will be left few in number, whereas you were as the stars of heaven for multitude, because you did not hearken to the voice of Yahwah your Father.

63 It will come to pass, as Yahwah rejoiced over you to do you good, and to multiply you, so Yahwah will rejoice over you to cause you to perish, and to destroy you. You will be plucked from off the land where you go in to possess it [all came true in 70AD].

64 Yahwah will scatter you among all peoples, from the one end of the earth even to the other end of the earth. There you will serve the gods, which you do not know, you, nor your fathers, even wood and stone.

65 Among these nations you will find no ease, and there will be no rest for the sole of your foot. Yahwah will give you a trembling heart there, failing of eyes, and pining of soul.

66 Your life will hang in doubt before you. You will fear night and day, and will have no assurance of your life.

67 In the morning you will say: I wish it was evening! At evening you will say: I wish it was morning! This for the fear of your heart which you will fear, and for the sight of your eyes which you will see.

68 Yahwah will bring you into Egypt again with ships, by the way of which I said to you, you will not see it again. There you will sell yourselves to your enemies for bondmen, and for bondwomen, and no man will buy you.

Chapter 29

1 These are the words of the covenant Yahwah commanded Moshe to make with the children of Yisrayah in the land of Moab, besides the covenant He made with them in Horeb.

2 Moshe called to all Yisrayah, and said to them: You saw all Yahwah did before your eyes in the land of Egypt, to Pharaoh, to all his servants, and to all his land.

3 Your eyes saw the great trials, the signs, and those great wonders.

4 But Yahwah did not give you a heart to know, eyes to see, and ears to hear, to this day.

5 I led you forty years in the wilderness. Your clothes are not waxed old upon you, and your shoe is not waxed old upon your foot.

6 You did not eat bread, neither did you drink wine or strong drink, that you may know I am Yahwah your Father.

7 When you came to this place, Sihon the king of Heshbon, and Og the king of Bashan, came out against us to battle, and we killed them.

8 We took their land, and gave it for an inheritance to the Reubenites, to the Gadites, and to half of the tribe of the Manassites.

9 Keep the words of this covenant, and do them, that you may prosper in all you do.

10 You stand today all of you before Yahwah your Father. Your heads, your tribes, your elders, and your officers, even all the men of Yisrayah,

11 your little ones, your wives, and your sojourner that is in the midst of your camps, from the hewer of your wood to the drawer of your water,

12 that you may enter into the covenant of Yahwah your Father, and into His oath, which Yahwah your Father makes with you today.

13 He establishes you today to Himself for a people, and that He may be to you a Father, as He spoke to you, and as He swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Yaacob.

14 Neither with you only do I make this covenant and this oath,

15 but with him that stands here with us today before Yahwah our Father, and also with him who is not here with us today

16 (for you know how we dwelt in the land of Egypt, and how we came through the midst of the nations through which you passed,

17 you saw their abominations, and their idols which were among them, wood, stone, silver, and gold.).

18 Maybe there should be among you man, or woman, or family, or tribe, whose heart turns away today from Yahwah our Father, to go to serve the gods of those nations. Maybe there should be among you a root that bears gall and wormwood,

19 and it come to pass, when he hears the words of this curse, he bless himself in his heart, saying: I will have peace, though I walk in the stubbornness of my heart, to destroy the moist with the dry.

20 Yahwah will not pardon him. The anger of Yahwah and His jealousy will smoke against that man. All the curse that is written in this book will lie upon him, and Yahwah will blot out his name from under heaven.

21 Yahwah will set him apart to evil out of all the tribes of Yisrayah, according to all the curses of the covenant that is written in this book of the law.

22 The generation to come, your children that will rise up after you, and the foreigner that will come from a far land, will say, when they see the plagues of that land, and the sicknesses with which Yahwah made it sick

23 (the whole land thereof is brimstone, salt, and a burning, that it is not sown, nor bears, nor any grass grows therein, like the overthrow of Sodom and Gomorrah, Admah and Zeboiim, which Yahwah overthrew in His anger, and in His wrath),

24 even all the nations will say: Why did Yahwah do this to this land? What does the heat of this great anger mean?

25 Then men will say: Because they forgot the covenant of Yahwah, the Father of their fathers, which He made with them when He brought them forth out of the land of Egypt.

26 They went and served the gods, and worshipped them, gods they did not know, and He did not give to them.

27 Therefore the anger of Yahwah was kindled against this land, to bring upon it all the curse that is written in this book.

28 Yahwah rooted them out of their land in anger, in wrath, in great indignation, and cast them into another land, as at this day.

29 The secret things belong to Yahwah our Father. But the things that are revealed belong to us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law.

Chapter 30

1 It will come to pass, when all these things are come upon you (the blessing and the curse, which I set before you), and you call them to mind among all the nations where Yahwah your Father drove you,

2 and return to Yahwah your Father, obey His voice according to all I command you today, you and your children, with all your heart, and with all your soul,

3 then Yahwah your Father will turn your captivity, have compassion upon you, will return, and gather you from all the peoples, where Yahwah your Father scattered you.

4 If any of your outcasts are in the uttermost parts of heaven, Yahwah your Father will gather you from there, He will fetch you from there.

5 Yahwah your Father will bring you into the land your fathers possessed, and you will possess it. He will do you good, and multiply you above your fathers.

6 Yahwah your Father will circumcise your heart, and the heart of your seed, to love Yahwah your Father with all your heart, and with all your soul, that you may live.

7 Yahwah your Father will put all these curses upon your enemies, and on those who hate you, that persecuted you.

8 You will return and obey the voice of Yahwah, and do all His commandments I command you today.

9 Yahwah your Father will make you plenteous in all the work of your hand, in the fruit of your body, in the fruit of your cattle, and in the fruit of your ground, for good. Yahwah will rejoice over you for good again, as He rejoiced over your fathers,

10 if you obey the voice of Yahwah your Father, to keep His commandments and His statutes which are written in this book of the law (if you turn to Yahwah your Father with all your heart, and with all your soul).

11 These commandments I command you today are not too hard for you, neither is it far off.

12 It is not in heaven, that you should say: Who will go up for us to heaven, bring it to us, and make us to hear it, that we may do it?

13 Neither is it beyond the sea, that you should say: Who will go over the sea for us, bring it to us, and make us to hear it, that we may do it?

14 The word is very near to you, in your mouth, and in your heart, that you may do it.

15 See, today I set before you life and good, or death and evil.

16 I command you today to love Yahwah your Father, to walk in His ways, to keep His commandments, His statutes, and His ordinances, that you may live and multiply, and that Yahwah your Father may bless you in the land where you go in to possess it.

17 But if your heart turn away, and you will not hear, but are drawn away, to worship the gods, and serve them,

18 I denounce to you today, you will surely perish. You will not prolong your days in the land, where you pass over the Yordan to go in to possess it.

19 I call heaven and earth to witness against you today. I set life and death before you, the blessing and the curse. Choose life, that you may live, you and your seed.

20 Love Yahwah your Father, obey His voice, and cleave to Him. He is your life, and the length of your days, that you may dwell in the land Yahwah swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Yaacob, to give them.

Chapter 31

1 Moshe went and spoke these words to all Yisrayah.

2 He said to them: I am a hundred and twenty years old today. I can no more go out and come in. Yahwah said to me: You will not go over this Yordan.

3 Yahwah your Father, He will go over before you. He will destroy these nations from before you, and you will dispossess them. Yahushua will go over before you, as Yahwah said.

4 Yahwah will do to them as He did to Sihon, and to Og, the kings of the Amorites, and to their land, whom He destroyed.

5 Yahwah will deliver them up before you, and you will do to them according to all the commandments I commanded you.

6 Be strong, and of good courage, do not fear, nor be frightened at them. Yahwah your Father is He who goes with you. He will not fail you, nor forsake you.

7 Moshe called to Yahushua, and said to him in the sight of all Yisrayah: Be strong, and of good courage. You will go with this people into the land Yahwah swore to their fathers to give them, and you will cause them to inherit it.

8 Yahwah, He it is who goes before you. He will be with you, He will not fail you, neither forsake you. Do not fear, neither be dismayed.

9 Moshe wrote these instructions, and delivered it to the priests the sons of Levi that bore the ark of the covenant of Yahwah, and to all the elders of Yisrayah.

10 Moshe commanded them, saying: At the end of every seven years, in the set time of the year of release, in the feast of tabernacles,

11 when all Yisrayah is come to appear before Yahwah your Father in the place He will choose, you will read this law before all Yisrayah in their hearing.

12 Assemble the people, the men, the women, the little ones, and your sojourner that is within your gates, that they may hear, that they may learn to fear Yahwah your Father, and observe to do all the words of this law.

13 Their children who do not know may hear, and learn to fear Yahwah your Father, as long as you live in the land where you go over the Yordan to possess it.

14 Yahwah said to Moshe: Behold, your days approach that you must die. Call Yahushua, and present yourselves in the tent of meeting, that I may give him a charge. Moshe and Yahushua went, and presented themselves in the tent of meeting.

15 Yahwah appeared in the Tent in a pillar of cloud. The pillar of cloud stood over the door of the Tent.

16 Yahwah said to Moshe: Behold, you will sleep with your fathers. This people will rise up and play the harlot after the strange gods of the land, where they go to be among them. [They] will forsake me, and break my covenant I made with them.

17 My anger will be kindled against them in that day. I will forget them. I will hide my face from them, and they will be devoured. Many evils and troubles will come upon them. So that they will say in that day: Are these evils come upon us because our Father is not among us?

18 I will surely hide my face in that day for all the evil they wrought, in that they are turned to the gods.

19 Now therefore write you this song for you, and teach it to the children of Yisrayah. Put it in their mouths, that this song may be a witness for me against the children of Yisrayah.

20 I will bring them into the land I swore to their fathers, flowing with milk and honey. They will eat, fill themselves, and wax fat. Then they will turn to the gods, serve them, despise me, and break my covenant.

21 It will come to pass, when many evils and troubles are come upon them, this song will testify before them as a witness. It will not be forgotten out of the mouths of their seed. I know their imagination they frame today, before I even bring them into the land which I swore.

22 So Moshe wrote this song the same day, and taught it to the children of Yisrayah.

23 He gave Yahushua the son of Nun a charge, and said: Be strong, and of good courage. Bring the children of Yisrayah into the land I swore to them, and I will be with you.

24 It came to pass, Moshe made an end of writing the words of this law in a book, until they were finished.

25 Moshe commanded the Levites that bore the ark of the covenant of Yahwah, saying:

26 Take this book of the law and instructions, and put it by the side of the ark of the covenant of Yahwah your Father, that it may be there for a witness against you.

27 I know your rebellion, and your stiff neck. Behold, while I am yet alive with you today, you are rebellious against Yahwah. How much more after my death?

28 Assemble to me all the elders of your tribes, and your officers, that I may speak these words in their ears, and call heaven and earth to witness against them.

29 I know after my death you will utterly corrupt yourselves, and turn aside from The Way I commanded you. Evil will befall you in the latter days because you will do what is evil in the sight of Yahwah, to provoke Him to anger through the work of your hands.

30 Moshe spoke in the ears of all the assembly of Yisrayah the words of this song, until they were finished:

Chapter 32

1 Give ear, you heavens, and I will speak.
Let the earth hear the words of my mouth.
2 My doctrine will drop as the rain.
My speech will distil as the dew.
As the small rain upon the tender grass.
As the showers upon the herb.
3 I will proclaim the Name of Yahwah.
Ascribe you greatness to our Father.
4 The Rock, His work is perfect.
All His ways are justice.
A Father of faithfulness, without iniquity.
Just and right is He.
5 They dealt corruptly with Him.
They are not His children, it is their blemish.
They are a perverse and crooked generation.
6 Do you thus requite Yahwah, O foolish people, and unwise?
Is He not your Father who bought you?
He made you, and established you.
7 Remember the days of old.
Consider the years of many generations.
Ask your father, he will show you.
Your elders, they will tell you.
8 The Most High gave to the gods their inheritance.
He separated the children of men.
He set the bounds of the peoples.
According to the number of the children of Yisrayah.
9 Yahwah's portion is His people.
Yaacob is the lot of His inheritance.
10 He found him in a desert land.
In the waste howling wilderness.
He compassed him about, He cared for him.
He kept him as the apple of His eye.
11 As an eagle that stirs up her nest.
That flutters over her young.
He spread abroad his wings, He took them.
He bore them on his pinions.
12 Yahwah alone did lead him.
There was no foreign god with him.
13 He made him ride on the high places of the earth.
He ate the increase of the field.
He made him to suck honey out of the rock.
And oil out of the flinty rock.
14 Butter of the herd, and milk of the flock.
With fat of lambs.
Rams of the breed of Bashan, and goats.
With the finest of the wheat.
You drank wine of the blood of the grape.
15 But Yeshurun [the Upright of Israel] waxed fat, and kicked.
You are waxed fat, you are grown thick, you are become sleek.
Then he forgot Yahwah who made him.
He lightly esteemed the Rock of his salvation.
16 They moved Him to jealousy with strange gods.
With abominations they provoked Him to anger.
17 They sacrificed to demons, which are not Yahwah.
To gods they did not know.
To new gods that came up of late.
Which your fathers did not dread.
18 You are unmindful of the Rock that begat you.
You forgot Yahwah who gave you birth.
19 Yahwah saw it, and abhorred them.
Because of the provocation of His sons and His daughters.
20 He said: I will hide my face from them.
I will see what their end will be.
They are a very perverse generation.
Children in whom is no faithfulness.
21 They moved me to jealousy with what is not Me.
They provoked me to anger with their vanities.
I will move them to jealousy with those that are not a people.
I will provoke them to anger with a foolish nation.
22 A fire is kindled in my anger.
It burns to the lowest grave.
It devours the earth with its increase.
It sets the foundations of the mountains on fire.
23 I will heap evils upon them.
I will spend my arrows upon them.
24 They will be wasted with hunger.
Devoured with burning heat.
Bitter destruction.
I will send the teeth of beasts upon them.
With the poison of crawling things of the dust.
25 Outside the sword will bereave.
In the chambers terror.
It will destroy both young man and virgin.
The suckling with the man of gray hairs.
26 I said, I would scatter them afar.
I would make the remembrance of them to cease from among men.
27 Were it not that I feared the provocation of the enemy.
Maybe their adversaries should judge amiss.
Maybe they would say: Our hand is exalted.
Yahwah did not do all this.
28 They are a nation void of counsel.
There is no understanding in them.
29 Oh that they were wise, that they understood this.
That they would consider their latter end!
30 How should one chase a thousand?
And two put ten thousand to flight?
Except their rock sold them.
Yahwah delivered them up?
31 Their rock is not as our Rock.
Even our enemies themselves being judges.
32 Their vine is of the vine of Sodom.
Of the fields of Gomorrah.
Their grapes are grapes of gall.
Their clusters are bitter.
33 Their wine is the poison of serpents.
The cruel venom of asps.
34 Is this not laid up in store with Me?
Sealed up among My treasures?
35 Vengeance is mine, and recompense.
At the time when their foot will slide.
The day of their calamity is at hand.
The things that are to come upon them will make haste.
36 Yahwah will judge His people.
He will repent Himself for His servants.
When He sees their power is gone.
There is none remaining, shut up or left at large.
37 He will say: Where are their gods?
The rock in which they took refuge.
38 Which ate the fat of their sacrifices.
And drank the wine of their drink-offering? Let them rise up, and help you.
Let them be your protection.
39 See now that I, even I, am He.
There is no god with me.
I kill, and I make alive.
I wound, and I heal.
There is none who can deliver out of my hand.
40 I lift up my hand to heaven.
I say: As I live for ever.
41 I whet my glittering sword.
My hand takes hold on judgment.
I will render vengeance to my adversaries.
I will recompense those who hate me.
42 I will make my arrows drunk with blood.
My sword will devour flesh.
Blood of the slain, and the captives.
From the head of the leaders of the enemy.
43 Rejoice with His people, O you nations.
Let all the servants of Yahwah worship Him.
He will avenge the blood of His servants.
He will render vengeance to His adversaries.
He will recompense justice to his enemies.
He will reward those who hate him.
He will purge His land for His people.

44 Moshe came, and spoke all the words of this song in the ears of the people, he, and Hoshea [Yahushua] the son of Nun.

45 Moshe made an end of speaking all these words to all Yisrayah.

46 He said to them: Set your heart to all the words I testify to you today, which you will command your children to observe to do, even all the words of this law.

47 It is no vain thing for you. It is your life, and through this thing you will prolong your days in the land, where you go over the Yordan to possess it.

48 Yahwah spoke to Moshe that same day, saying:

49 Get up into this mountain of Abarim, to mount Nebo, which is in the land of Moab, that is over against Yericho. Behold the land of Canaan, which I give to the children of Yisrayah for a possession.

50 Die in the mount where you go up, and be gathered to your people (as Aaron your brother died in mount Hor, and was gathered to his people),

51 because you trespassed against me in the midst of the children of Yisrayah at the waters of Meribah of Kadesh, in the wilderness of Zin, you did not sanctify me in the midst of the children of Yisrayah.

52 You will see the land before you. But you will not go there into the land which I give the children of Yisrayah.

Chapter 33

1 This is the blessing with which Moshe the man of Yahwah blessed the children of Yisrayah before his death:

2 He said: Yahwah came from Sinai.
And rose from Seir to them.
He shined forth from mount Paran.
He came from the ten thousands of holy ones.
At His right hand was a fiery Law for them.
3 Yea, He loves the people.
All His saints are in your hand.
They sat down at your feet.
Everyone will receive of your words.
4 Moshe commanded us a law.
An inheritance for the assembly of Yaacob.
5 He was king in Yeshurun.
When the heads of the people were gathered.
All the tribes of Yisrayah together.
6 Let Reuben live, and not die.
Nor let his men be few.
7 This is the blessing of Yahudah.
He said: Hear, Yahwah, the voice of Yahudah.
Bring him in to his people.
He contended for himself with his hands.
Be a help against his adversaries.
8 Of Levi he said: Your Thummim and your Urim are with your righteous one.
Whom you proved at Massah.
With whom you strove at the waters of Meribah.
9 Who said of his father, and of his mother.
I did not see him.
Neither did he acknowledge his brothers.
Nor did he know his own children.
They observe your word.
And keep your covenant.
10 They will teach Yaacob your ordinances.
Yisrayah your law.
They will put incense before you.
Whole burnt-offering upon your altar.
11 Bless, Yahwah, his substance.
Accept the work of his hands.
Smite through the loins of those who rise up against him.
And of those who hate him, that they not rise again.
12 Of Benyamin he said: The beloved of Yahwah will dwell in safety by him.
He covers him all the day long.
He dwells between his shoulders.
13 Of Yahusef [Joseph] he said: His land is blessed of Yahwah.
For the precious things of heaven.
For the dew.
For the deep that couches beneath.
14 For the precious things of the fruits of the sun.
For the precious things of the growth of the moons.
15 For the chief things of the ancient mountains.
For the precious things of the everlasting hills.
16 For the precious things of the earth, and the fulness of it.
The good will of Him who dwelt in the bush.
Let the blessing come upon the head of Yahusef.
Upon the crown of the head of him that was separate from his brothers.
17 The firstling of his herd, majesty is his.
His horns are the horns of the wild-ox.
With them he will push the peoples all of them, even the ends of the earth.
They are the ten thousands of Ephrayim.
They are the thousands of Manasseh.
18 Of Zebulun he said: Rejoice, Zebulun, in your going out.
And, Issachar, in your tents.
19 They will call the peoples to the mountain.
There they will offer sacrifices of righteousness.
They will suck the abundance of the seas.
The hidden treasures of the sand.
20 Of Gad he said: Blessed is he who enlarges Gad.
He dwells as a lioness.
He tears the arm, yea, the crown of the head.
21 He provided the first part for himself.
There the lawgiver's portion was reserved.
He came with the heads of the people.
He executed the righteousness of Yahwah.
His ordinances with Yisrayah.
22 Of Dan he said: Dan is a lion's whelp.
He leaps forth from Bashan.
23 Of Naphtali he said: O Naphtali, satisfied with favor.
Full with the blessing of Yahwah.
Possess the west and the south.
24 Of Asher he said: Blessed is Asher with children.
Let him be acceptable to his brothers.
Let him dip his foot in oil.
25 Your bars will be iron and bronze.
As your days, so your strength will be.
26 There is none like to Yahwah, O Yeshurun.
Who rides upon the heavens for your help.
In His excellency on the skies.
27 The eternal Father is your dwelling-place.
Underneath are the everlasting arms.
He thrust out the enemy from before you.
He said: Destroy.
28 Yisrayah dwells in safety.
The fountain of Yaacob alone.
In a land of grain, and new wine.
Yea, his heavens drop down dew.
29 Happy are you, O Yisrayah.
Who is like to you, a people saved by Yahwah.
The shield of your help.
The sword of your excellency!
Your enemies will submit themselves to you.
You will tread upon their high places.

Chapter 34

1 Moshe went up from the plains of Moab to mount Nebo, to the top of Pisgah, that is opposite Yericho. Yahwah showed him all the land of Gilead, to Dan,

2 all Naphtali, the land of Ephrayim and Manasseh, all the land of Yahudah, to the hinder sea,

3 the South, and the Plain of the valley of Yericho the city of palm-trees, to Zoar.

4 Yahwah said to him: This is the land I swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Yaacob, saying; I give it to your seed. I cause you to see it with your eyes, but you will not go over there.

5 So Moshe the servant of Yahwah died there in the land of Moab, according to the Word of Yahwah.

6 He buried him in the valley in the land of Moab opposite Beth-peor. But no man knows of his sepulchre to this day.

7 Moshe was a hundred and twenty years old when he died. His eye was not dim, nor his natural force abated.

8 The children of Yisrayah wept for Moshe in the plains of Moab thirty days. So the days of weeping in the mourning for Moshe were ended.

9 Yahushua the son of Nun was full of the spirit of wisdom, for Moshe laid his hands upon him. The children of Yisrayah hearkened to him, and did as Yahwah commanded Moshe.

10 There has not arisen since in Yisrayah a prophet like to Moshe, whom Yahwah knew face to face,

11 in all the signs, and the wonders, which Yahwah sent him to do in the land of Egypt, to Pharaoh, to all his servants, to all his land,

12 in all the mighty hand, and in all the great terror, which Moshe wrought in the sight of all Yisrayah.
