The Second Book of Moshe [Moses], called Shemoth [Exodus]

Exodus, the second Book of Moshe

Chapter 1

1 Now these are the names of the sons of Yisrayah [Israel] who came into Egypt (every man and his household came with Yaacob [Jacob]):

2 Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Yahudah [Judah],

3 Issachar, Zebulun, Benjamin,

4 Dan, Naphtali, Gad, and Asher.

5 All the souls who came out of the loins of Yaacob were seventy souls. Yahusef [yah-wah-sef; Yosef, Joseph] was in Egypt already.

6 Yahusef died, all his brothers, and all that generation.

7 The children of Yisrayah were fruitful, increased abundantly, multiplied, waxed exceeding mighty, and the land was filled with them.

8 Now there arose a new king over Egypt, who did not know Yahusef.

9 He said to his people: Behold, the people of the children of Yisrayah are more and mightier than we.

10 Come, let us deal wisely with them, lest they multiply, and it come to pass, that, when there falls out any war, they also join themselves to our enemies, fight against us, and get them up out of the land.

11 Therefore they set taskmasters over them to afflict them with their burdens. They built store-cities for Pharaoh: Pithom and Raamses.

12 But the more they afflicted them, the more they multiplied, and the more they spread abroad. They were grieved because of the children of Yisrayah.

13 The Egyptians made the children of Yisrayah to serve with rigor.

14 They made their lives bitter with hard service, in mortar, in brick, and in all manner of service in the field; all their service wherein they made them serve with rigor.

15 The king of Egypt spoke to the Hebrew midwives, of whom the name of the one was Shiphrah, and the name of the other Puah.

16 He said: When you do the office of a midwife to the Hebrew women, and see them upon the birth-stool; if it is a son, you will kill him; but if it is a daughter, then she can live.

17 The midwives feared Yahwah, and did not do as the king of Egypt commanded them, but saved the men-children alive.

18 The king of Egypt called for the midwives, and said to them: Why did you do this thing, saving the men-children alive?

19 The midwives said to Pharaoh: The Hebrew women are not as the Egyptian women. They are lively, and are delivered before the midwife come to them.

20 Yahwah dealt well with the midwives. The people multiplied, and waxed very mighty.

21 It came to pass, because the midwives feared Yahwah, He made them households.

22 Pharaoh charged all his people, saying: Every son who is born you will cast into the river, and every daughter you will save alive.

Chapter 2

1 There went a man of the house of Levi, and took to wife a daughter of Levi.

2 The woman conceived, and bore a son. When she saw he was a goodly child, she hid him three months.

3 When she could no longer hide him, she took an ark of bulrushes for him, and daubed it with slime and with pitch. She put the child in it, and laid it in the reeds by the river's edge.

4 His sister stood afar off, to know what would be done to him.

5 The daughter of Pharaoh came down to bathe at the river. Her maidens walked along by the river-side. She saw the ark among the reeds, and sent her handmaid to fetch it.

6 She opened it, and saw the child. Behold, the babe wept. She had compassion on him, and said: This is one of the Hebrew children.

7 His sister said to Pharaoh's daughter: Shall I go and call you a nurse of the Hebrew women, that she may nurse the child for you?

8 Pharaoh's daughter said to her: Go. The maiden went and called the child's mother.

9 Pharaoh's daughter said to her: Take this child away, nurse it for me, I will give you your wages. The woman took the child, and nursed it.

10 The child grew. She brought him to Pharaoh's daughter, and he became her son. She called his name: Moshe [Moses]. She said: Because I drew him out of the water.

11 It came to pass in those days, when Moshe was grown up, he went out to his brothers, and looked on their burdens. He saw an Egyptian smiting a Hebrew, one of his brothers.

12 He looked this way, and that way. When he saw there was no man, he smote the Egyptian, and hid him in the sand.

13 He went out the second day. Behold, two men of the Hebrews were striving together. He said to him who did the wrong: Why do you smite your fellow?

14 He said: Who made you a prince and a judge over us? Do you think to kill me, as you killed the Egyptian? Moshe feared, and said: Surely the thing is known.

15 When Pharaoh heard this thing, he sought to kill Moshe. Moshe fled from the face of Pharaoh, and dwelt in the land of Midian. He sat down by a well.

16 Now the priest of Midian had seven daughters. They came, drew water, and filled the troughs to water their father's flock.

17 The shepherds came, and drove them away. But Moshe stood up, helped them, and watered their flock.

18 When they came to Reuel their father, he said: How is it you are come so soon today?

19 They said: An Egyptian delivered us out of the hand of the shepherds. Moreover he drew water for us, and watered the flock.

20 He said to his daughters: Where is he? Why is it you left the man? Call him, that he may eat bread.

21 Moshe was content to dwell with the man. He gave Zipporah his daughter to Moshe.

22 She bore a son. He called his name Gershom. He said: I am a sojourner in a foreign land.

23 It came to pass in the course of those many days, the king of Egypt died. The children of Yisrayah sighed by reason of the bondage. They cried, and their cry came up to Yahwah by reason of the bondage.

24 Yahwah heard their groaning. Yahwah remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Yaacob.

25 Yahwah saw the children of Yisrayah, and Yahwah took knowledge of them.

Chapter 3

1 Now Moshe was keeping the flock of Yethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian [children of the son of Abraham by his wife Keturah]. He led the flock to the back of the wilderness, and came to the mountain of the Gods, to Horeb.

2 A servant [malak] of Yahwah appeared to him as a flame of fire out of the middle of a bush. He looked. Behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed.

3 Moshe said: I will turn aside now, and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt.

4 Yahwah saw he turned aside to see. AHYH [Ea] called to him from out of the middle of the bush, and said: Moshe, Moshe. He said: Here I am.

5 He said: Do not draw near here. Put off your shoes from off your feet, for the place you stand on is holy ground.

6 Moreover He said: I am the god of your father, the god of Abraham, the god of Yitzchaq, and the god of Yaacob [Yisrayah]. Moshe hid his face, for he was afraid to look upon AHYH.

7 AHYH said: I see the affliction of my people who are in Egypt, and hear their cry by reason of their taskmasters, for I know their sorrows.

8 I am come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians; to bring them up out of that land to a good land, and a large, a land flowing with milk and honey; to the place of the Canaanite, the Hittite, the Amorite, the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite.

9 Behold, the cry of the children of Yisrayah is come to Me. Moreover I see the oppression with which the Egyptians oppress them.

10 Come now, I send you to Pharaoh, that you may bring forth my people the children of Yisrayah out of Egypt.

11 Moshe said to AHYH: Who am I, that I should go to Pharaoh, and that I should bring forth the children of Yisrayah out of Egypt?

12 AHYH said: Certainly, I will be with you. This is the token to you, that I sent you. When you bring forth the people out of Egypt, you will serve Us [the Elohim] upon this mountain.

13 Moshe said to AHYH: Behold. I will come to the children of Yisrayah, and say to them: The god of your fathers sent me to you. They will say to me: What is His Name? What will I say to them?

14 AHYH said to Moshe: Ahyah Ashair Ahyah [I AM WHO I AM]. He said: Thus you will say to the children of Yisrayah: AHYH sent me to you.

15 After this AHYH also said to Moshe: Thus you will say unto the children of Yisrayah; YHWH [Ya-h-wa-h], the Father of your fathers, the Father of Abraham, the Father of Yitzchaq, and the Father of Yaacob, sent me to you. This is my Name [Mark] forever, and thus I am to be remembered throughout all generations.

16 Go, gather the elders of Yisrayah together, and say to them: Yahwah [An], the Father of your fathers, the Father of Abraham, of Yitzchaq, and of Yaacob, appeared to me, saying; I visited you, and see that which is done to you in Egypt.

17 I said: I will bring you up out of the affliction of Egypt to the land of the Canaanite, the Hittite, the Amorite, the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite, to a land flowing with milk and honey.

18 They will hearken to your voice. You will come, you and the elders of Yisrayah, to the king of Egypt. You will say to him: Yahwah, the Father of the Hebrews, met with us. We pray you, let us go three days journey into the wilderness, that we may sacrifice to Yahwah our Father.

19 I know the king of Egypt will not give you leave to go. No, not by a mighty hand.

20 I will put forth my hand, and smite Egypt with all my wonders which I will do in the midst thereof. After that he will let you go.

21 I will give this people favor in the sight of the Egyptians. It shall come to pass, when you go, you will not go empty.

22 Every woman will ask of her neighbor, and of her who sojourns in her house, jewels of silver, jewels of gold, and clothing. You will put them upon your sons, and upon your daughters. You will despoil the Egyptians.

Chapter 4

1 Moshe answered and said: Behold, they will not believe me, nor hearken to my voice. They will say: Yahwah did not appear to you.

2 Yahwah said to him: What is that in your hand? He said: A rod.

3 He said: Cast it on the ground. He cast it on the ground, and it became a serpent. Moshe fled from before it.

4 Yahwah said to Moshe: Put forth your hand, and take it by the tail. He put forth his hand, laid hold of it, and it became a rod in his hand.

5 They will believe Yahwah, the Father of their fathers, the Father of Abraham, the Father of Yitzchaq, and the Father of Yaacob, appeared to you.

6 Yahwah said furthermore to him: Put your hand into your bosom. He put his hand into his bosom. When he took it out, behold, his hand was leprous, as white as snow.

7 He said: Put your hand into your bosom again. He put his hand into his bosom again. When he took it out of his bosom, behold, it was turned again as his other flesh.

8 It will come to pass, if they do not believe you, nor hearken to the voice of the first sign, they will believe the voice of the latter sign.

9 It will come to pass, if they will not believe even these two signs, nor hearken to your voice, that you will take of the water of the river, and pour it upon the dry land. The water you took out of the river will become blood upon the dry land.

10 Moshe said to Yahwah: Oh, Yahwah, I am not eloquent. Not before, nor since you spoke to your servant. I am slow of speech, and of a slow tongue. [Jasher 70:29]

11 Yahwah said to him: Who made man's mouth? Or who makes a man dumb, or deaf, or seeing, or blind? Is it not I, Yahwah?

12 Now go, I will be with your mouth, and teach you what you will speak.

13 He said: Oh, Yahwah, I pray you, send by the hand of him whom you will send.

14 The anger of Yahwah was kindled against Moshe, and He said: Is there not Aaron your brother the Levite? I know he can speak well. Behold, he comes forth to meet you. When he sees you, he will be glad in his heart.

15 You will speak to him, and put the words in his mouth. I will be with your mouth, and with his mouth, and will teach you what you will do.

16 He is your spokesman to the people. It will come to pass, he will be a mouth to you, and you will be as a god to him.

17 Take this rod in your hand, with which you do the signs.

18 Moshe went, returned to Yethro his father-in-law, and said to him: Let me go, I pray you, and return to my brothers in Egypt, and see whether they are still alive. Yethro said to Moshe: Go in peace.

19 Yahwah said to Moshe in Midian: Go, return into Egypt. All the men are dead who sought your life.

20 Moshe took his wife and his sons, set them upon an ass, and he returned to the land of Egypt. Moshe took the rod of Yahwah in his hand.

21 Yahwah said to Moshe: When you go back into Egypt, see that you do before Pharaoh all the wonders I put in your hand. I will harden his heart, and he will not let the people go.

22 Say to Pharaoh: Thus says Yahwah, Yisrayah is my son, my first-born.

23 I say to you: Let my son go, that he may serve me. You refused to let him go. Behold, I will kill your son, your first-born.

24 It came to pass on the way at the lodging-place, Yahwah met him, and sought to kill him.

25 Zipporah took a flint, cut off the foreskin of her son, and cast it at His feet. She said: Surely, you are a husband of blood to me.

26 So He let him alone. Then she said: A bridegroom of blood you are, because of the circumcision.

27 Yahwah said to Aaron: Go into the wilderness to meet Moshe. He went, met him in the mountain of Yahwah, and kissed him.

28 Moshe told Aaron all the words of Yahwah with which He sent him, and all the signs with which He charged him.

29 Moshe and Aaron went and gathered together all the elders of the children of Yisrayah.

30 Aaron spoke all the words Yahwah spoke to Moshe, and did the signs in the sight of the people.

31 The people believed. When they heard Yahwah visited the children of Yisrayah, and saw their affliction, then they bowed their heads and worshipped.

Chapter 5

1 Afterward Moshe and Aaron came, and spoke to Pharaoh. Thus says Yahwah, the Father of Yisrayah: Let my people go, that they may hold a feast to me in the wilderness.

2 Pharaoh said: Who is Yahwah, that I should hearken to His voice to let Yisrayah go? I do not know Yahwah, and moreover I will not let Yisrayah go.

3 They said: The Father of the Hebrews met with us. We pray you, let us go three days journey into the wilderness, and sacrifice to Yahwah our Father, lest He fall upon us with pestilence, or with the sword.

4 The king of Egypt said to them: Why do you, Moshe and Aaron, loose the people from their works? Get you to your burdens.

5 Pharaoh said: Behold, the people of the land are now many, and you make them rest from their burdens.

6 The same day Pharaoh commanded the taskmasters of the people, and their officers, saying:

7 You will not give the people straw to make brick, as before. Let them go and gather straw for themselves.

8 You will lay upon them the number of the bricks they made before. Do not diminish any thereof. They are idle. Therefore they cry, saying: Let us go and sacrifice to our Father.

9 Let heavier work be laid upon the men, that they may labor therein. Let them not regard lying words.

10 The taskmasters of the people went out, and their officers. They spoke to the people, saying: Thus says Pharaoh, I will not give you straw.

11 Go yourselves, get straw where you can find it. None of your work is diminished.

12 So the people were scattered abroad throughout all the land of Egypt to gather stubble for straw.

13 The taskmasters were urgent, saying: Fulfil your works, your daily tasks, as when there was straw.

14 The officers of the children of Yisrayah, whom Pharaoh's taskmasters set over them, were beaten, and demanded: Why did you not fulfill your task both yesterday and today, in making brick as before?

15 Then the officers of the children of Yisrayah came, and cried to Pharaoh, saying: Why do you deal like this with your servants?

16 There is no straw given to your servants, and they say to us: Make brick. Behold, your servants are beaten. But the fault is in your own people.

17 He said: You are idle, you are idle. Therefore you say: Let us go and sacrifice to Yahwah.

18 Go now, and work. No straw will be given to you, yet you will deliver the number of bricks.

19 The officers of the children of Yisrayah saw they were in evil case, when it was said: You will not diminish any from your bricks, your daily tasks.

20 They met Moshe and Aaron, who stood in the way, as they came forth from Pharaoh.

21 They said to them: Yahwah look upon you, and judge. You have made our savor to be abhorred in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of his servants, to put a sword in their hand to kill us.

22 Moshe returned to Yahwah, and said: Yahwah, why did you deal ill with this people? Why is it you sent me?

23 Since I came to Pharaoh to speak in your Name, he has dealt ill with this people. Nor have you delivered your people at all.

Chapter 6

1 Yahwah said to Moshe: Now you will see what I will do to Pharaoh. By a strong hand he will let them go, and by a strong hand he will drive them out of his land.

2 Yahwah spoke to Moshe, and said to him: I am Yahwah.

3 I appeared to Abraham, to Yitzchaq, and to Yaacob, as An Almighty [Shaddai]. I was known to them by my [Sumerian] name: An.

4 I established my covenant with them, to give them the land of Canaan, the land of their sojournings, in which they sojourned.

5 Moreover I hear the groaning of the children of Yisrayah, whom the Egyptians keep in bondage. I remember my covenant.

6 Say to the children of Yisrayah: I am Yahwah. I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians. I will rid you out of their bondage. I will redeem you with an outstretched arm, and with great judgments.

7 I will take you to me for a people, and I will be to you a Father. You will know I am Yahwah your Father, who brings you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians.

8 I will bring you in to the land I swore to give to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Yaacob. I give it to you for a heritage. I am Yahwah.

9 Moshe spoke so to the children of Yisrayah. But they did not hearken to Moshe for anguish of spirit, and for cruel bondage.

10 Yahwah spoke to Moshe, saying:

11 Go in, speak to Pharaoh king of Egypt, that he let the children of Yisrayah go out of his land.

12 Moshe spoke before Yahwah, saying: Behold, the children of Yisrayah do not hearken to me. How then will Pharaoh hear me, who am of stumbling speech?

13 Yahwah spoke to Moshe and to Aaron, and gave them a charge to the children of Yisrayah, and to Pharaoh king of Egypt, to bring the children of Yisrayah out of the land of Egypt.

14 These are the heads of their fathers' houses. The sons of Reuben the first-born of Yisrayah: Hanoch, Pallu, Hezron, and Carmi. These are the families of Reuben.

15 The sons of Simeon: Jemuel, Jamin, Ohad, Jachin, Zohar, and Shaul the son of a Canaanitish woman. These are the families of Simeon.

16 These are the names of the sons of Levi according to their generations: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari. The years of the life of Levi were a hundred thirty and seven years.

17 The sons of Gershon: Libni and Shimei, according to their families.

18 The sons of Kohath: Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel. The years of the life of Kohath were a hundred thirty and three years.

19 The sons of Merari: Mahli and Mushi. These are the families of the Levites according to their generations.

20 Amram took him Jochebed his father's sister to wife. She bore him Aaron and Moshe. The years of the life of Amram were a hundred and thirty and seven years.

21 The sons of Izhar: Korah, Nepheg, and Zichri.

22 The sons of Uzziel: Mishael, Elzaphan, and Sithri.

23 Aaron took him Elisheba, the daughter of Amminadab, the sister of Nahshon, to wife. She bore him Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar.

24 The sons of Korah: Assir, Elkanah, and Abiasaph. These are the families of the Korahites.

25 Eleazar Aaron's son took him one of the daughters of Putiel to wife. She bore him Phinehas. These are the heads of the fathers' houses of the Levites according to their families.

26 These are that Aaron and Moshe, to whom Yahwah said: Bring out the children of Yisrayah from the land of Egypt according to their hosts.

27 These are those who spoke to Pharaoh king of Egypt, to bring out the children of Yisrayah from Egypt. These are that Moshe and Aaron.

28 It came to pass, Yahwah spoke to Moshe in the land of Egypt.

29 Yahwah spoke to Moshe, saying: I am Yahwah. Speak to Pharaoh king of Egypt all I speak to you.

30 Moshe said before Yahwah: Behold, I am of stumbling speech, how will Pharaoh hearken to me?

Chapter 7

1 Yahwah said to Moshe: See, I made you as a god to Pharaoh. Aaron your brother will be your prophet.

2 You will speak all I command you. Aaron your brother will speak to Pharaoh, that he let the children of Yisrayah go out of his land.

3 I will harden Pharaoh's heart, and multiply my signs and my wonders in the land of Egypt.

4 Pharaoh will not hearken to you. I will lay my hand upon Egypt, and bring forth my hosts, my people the children of Yisrayah, out of the land of Egypt by great judgments.

5 The Egyptians will know I am Yahwah, when I stretch forth my hand upon Egypt, and bring out the children of Yisrayah from among them.

6 Moshe and Aaron did so. As Yahwah commanded them, so they did.

7 Moshe was fourscore years old, and Aaron fourscore and three years old, when they spoke to Pharaoh.

8 Yahwah spoke to Moshe, and to Aaron, saying:

9 Pharaoh will speak to you, saying; Show a wonder for you. You will say to Aaron: Take your rod, and cast it down before Pharaoh, that it become a serpent.

10 Moshe and Aaron went in to Pharaoh, and they did as Yahwah commanded. Aaron cast down his rod before Pharaoh, and before his servants, and it became a serpent.

11 Pharaoh also called for the wise men, and the sorcerers. [Jasher 73:28-29, 79:27] The magicians of Egypt also did in like manner with their enchantments.

12 They cast down every man his rod, and they became serpents. But Aaron's rod swallowed up their rods.

13 Pharaoh's heart was hardened, and he did not hearken to them, as Yahwah spoke.

14 Yahwah said to Moshe: Pharaoh's heart is stubborn, he refuses to let the people go.

15 Get you to Pharaoh in the morning. Lo, he goes out to the water. Stand by the river's brink to meet him. Take in your hand the rod which was turned to a serpent.

16 You will say to him: Yahwah, the Father of the Hebrews, sent me to you, saying; Let my people go, that they may serve me in the wilderness. Behold, you have not hearkened.

17 Thus says Yahwah: In this you will know I am Yahwah. Behold, I will smite with the rod that is in my hand upon the waters which are in the river, and they will be turned to blood.

18 The fish in the river will die, and the river will become foul. The Egyptians will loathe to drink water from the river.

19 Yahwah said to Moshe: Say to Aaron; Take your rod. Stretch out your hand over the waters of Egypt, over their rivers, over their streams, over their pools, and over all their ponds of water, that they may become blood. There will be blood throughout all the land of Egypt, both in vessels of wood, and in vessels of stone.

20 Moshe and Aaron did so, as Yahwah commanded. He lifted up the rod, and smote the waters that were in the river, in the sight of Pharaoh, and in the sight of his servants. All the waters in the river were turned to blood.

21 The fish in the river died. The [Nile] river became foul, and the Egyptians could not drink water from the river. The blood was throughout all the land of Egypt.

22 The magicians of Egypt did in like manner with their enchantments. Pharaoh's heart was hardened, and he did not hearken to them, as Yahwah spoke.

23 Pharaoh turned, and went into his house, neither did he lay even this to heart.

24 All the Egyptians digged round about the river for water to drink. For they could not drink of the water of the river.

25 Seven days were fulfilled, after Yahwah smote the river.

Chapter 8

1 Yahwah spoke to Moshe: Go in to Pharaoh, and say to him; Thus says Yahwah; Let my people go, that they may serve Me.

2 If you refuse to let them go, behold, I will smite all your borders with frogs.

3 The river will swarm with frogs, which will go up, come into your house, into your bedchamber, upon your bed, into the house of your servants, upon your people, into your ovens, and into your kneading-troughs.

4 The frogs will come up both upon you, upon your people, and upon all your servants.

5 Yahwah said to Moshe: Say to Aaron; Stretch forth your hand with your rod over the rivers, over the streams, and over the pools. Cause frogs to come up upon the land of Egypt.

6 Aaron stretched out his hand over the waters of Egypt. The frogs came up, and covered the land of Egypt.

7 The magicians did in like manner with their enchantments, and brought up frogs upon the land of Egypt.

8 Then Pharaoh called for Moshe and Aaron, and said: Ask Yahwah, that he take the frogs away from me, and from my people. I will let the people go, that they may sacrifice to Yahwah.

9 Moshe said to Pharaoh: You have this glory over me. At what time should I pray for you, for your servants, and for your people, that the frogs are destroyed from you and your houses, and remain in the river only?

10 He said: Against tomorrow. He said: Be it according to your word, that you may know there is none like to Yahwah our Father.

11 The frogs will depart from you, from your houses, from your servants, and from your people. They will remain in the river only.

12 Moshe and Aaron went out from Pharaoh. Moshe cried to Yahwah concerning the frogs He brought upon Pharaoh.

13 Yahwah did according to the word of Moshe. The frogs died out of the houses, out of the courts, and out of the fields.

14 They gathered them together in heaps, and the land stank. But when Pharaoh saw there was respite, he hardened his heart, and did not hearken to them, as Yahwah said.

16 Yahwah said to Moshe: Say to Aaron; Stretch out your rod, smite the dust of the earth, that it may become lice throughout all the land of Egypt.

17 They did so. Aaron stretched out his hand with his rod, and smote the dust of the earth. There were lice upon man, and upon beast. All the dust of the earth became lice throughout all the land of Egypt.

18 The magicians did so with their enchantments to bring forth lice, but they could not. There were lice upon man, and upon beast.

19 Then the magicians said to Pharaoh: This is the finger of God. Pharaoh's heart was hardened, and he did not hearken to them, as Yahwah said.

20 Yahwah said to Moshe: Rise up early in the morning, and stand before Pharaoh. Lo, he comes forth to the water. Say to him: Thus says Yahwah; Let my people go, that they may serve Me.

21 Else, if you will not let my people go, behold, I will send swarms of flies upon you, upon your servants, upon your people, and into your houses. The houses of the Egyptians will be full of swarms of flies, and also the ground where they are.

22 I will set apart the land of Goshen in that day, in which my people dwell. No swarms of flies will be there, to the end you may know I am Yahwah in the midst of the earth.

23 I will put a division between my people and your people. By tomorrow this sign will be.

24 Yahwah did so. There came grievous swarms of flies into the house of Pharaoh, and into his servants' houses. In all the land of Egypt the land was corrupted by reason of the swarms of flies.

25 Pharaoh called for Moshe and for Aaron, and said: Go, sacrifice to your Father in the land [where you live].

26 But Moshe said: It would not be right to do so. The sacrifices we offer to Yahwah our Father are offensive to the Egyptians. If we offer sacrifices that are offensive to them in the sight of the Egyptians, will they not stone us?

27 We will go three days journey into the wilderness, and sacrifice to Yahwah our Father, as He commands us.

28 Pharaoh said: I will let you go, that you may sacrifice to Yahwah your Father in the wilderness. Only you will not go very far away. Pray for me.

29 Moshe said: Behold, I go out from you, and I will ask Yahwah that the swarms of flies may depart from Pharaoh, from his servants, and from his people, tomorrow. Only let Pharaoh not deal deceitfully any more in not letting the people go to sacrifice to Yahwah.

30 Moshe went out from Pharaoh, and asked Yahwah.

31 Yahwah did according to the word of Moshe. He removed the swarms of flies from Pharaoh, from his servants, and from his people. There remained not one.

32 Pharaoh hardened his heart this time also, and he did not let the people go.

Chapter 9

1 Then Yahwah said to Moshe: Go in to Pharaoh. Tell him: Thus says Yahwah, the Father of the Hebrews; Let my people go, that they may serve Me.

2 If you refuse to let them go, and will still hold them,

3 behold, the hand of Yahwah is upon your cattle which are in the field, upon the horses, upon the asses, upon the camels, upon the herds, and upon the flocks. There will be a very grievous pestilence.

4 Yahwah will make a distinction between the cattle of Yisrayah and the cattle of Egypt. Nothing will die of all that belongs to the children of Yisrayah.

5 Yahwah appointed a set time, saying: Tomorrow Yahwah will do this thing in the land.

6 Yahwah did that thing the next day. All the cattle of Egypt died. But not one of the cattle of the children of Yisrayah died.

7 Pharaoh sent. Behold, there was not so much as one of the cattle of the Yisrayahites dead. But the heart of Pharaoh was stubborn, and he did not let the people go.

8 Yahwah said to Moshe and to Aaron: Take to you handfuls of ashes of the furnace, and let Moshe sprinkle it toward heaven in the sight of Pharaoh.

9 It will become small dust over all the land of Egypt, and will be a boil breaking forth with blains upon man and upon beast, throughout all the land of Egypt.

10 They took ashes of the furnace, and stood before Pharaoh. Moshe sprinkled it up toward heaven. It became a boil breaking forth with blains upon man and upon beast.

11 The magicians could not stand before Moshe because of the boils. The boils were upon the magicians, and upon all the Egyptians.

12 Yahwah hardened the heart of Pharaoh, and he did not hearken to them, as Yahwah had spoken to Moshe.

13 Yahwah said to Moshe: Rise up early in the morning. Stand before Pharaoh, and say to him: Thus says Yahwah, the Father of the Hebrews; Let my people go, that they may serve Me.

14 This time I will send all my plagues upon your heart, upon your servants, and upon your people, that you know there is none like Me in all the earth.

15 I could put forth my hand, smite you and your people with pestilence, and cut you off from the earth.

16 But in very deed, I made you to stand for this reason: to show you my power, so my Name is declared throughout all the earth.

17 As yet you exalt yourself against my people, that you will not let them go.

18 Behold, tomorrow about this time I will cause it to rain a very grievous hail, such as has not been in Egypt since the day it was founded, even until now.

19 Now therefore send, hasten in your cattle, and all you have in the field. Every man and beast found in the field, and is not brought home, the hail will come down upon them, and they will die.

20 He who feared the Word of Yahwah among the servants of Pharaoh made his servants and his cattle flee into the houses.

21 He who did not regard the Word of Yahwah left his servants and his cattle in the field.

22 Yahwah said to Moshe: Stretch your hand forth toward heaven, that there is hail in all the land of Egypt. Upon man, upon beast, and upon every herb of the field, throughout the land of Egypt.

23 Moshe stretched forth his rod toward heaven. Yahwah sent thunder and hail, and fire ran down to the earth. Yahwah rained hail upon the land of Egypt.

24 So there was hail [of rocks], and fire mingled with the hail, very grievous, such as had never been in all the land of Egypt since it became a nation.

25 The hail smote throughout all the land of Egypt all that was in the field, both man and beast. The hail smote every herb of the field, and broke every tree of the field.

26 There was no hail only in the land of Goshen, where the children of Yisrayah were.

27 Pharaoh sent, called for Moshe and Aaron, and said to them: I sinned this time. Yahwah is righteous. I and my people are wicked.

28 Pray to Yahwah. There was enough of these mighty thunderings and hail. I will let you go, you will stay no longer.

29 Moshe said to him: As soon as I am gone out of the city, I will spread abroad my hands to Yahwah. The thunders will cease, neither will there be any more hail, that you may know the earth is Yahwah's.

30 But as for you and your servants, I know you will not yet fear Father Yahwah.

31 The flax and the barley were smitten. The barley was in the ear, and the flax was in bloom.

32 But the wheat and the spelt were not smitten, for they were not grown up.

33 Moshe went out of the city from Pharaoh, and spread abroad his hands to Yahwah. The thunders and hail ceased, and the rain was not poured upon the earth.

34 When Pharaoh saw the rain, the hail, and the thunders, were ceased, he sinned yet more, and hardened his heart, he and his servants.

35 The heart of Pharaoh was hardened. He did not let the children of Yisrayah go, as Yahwah spoke by Moshe.

Chapter 10

1 Yahwah said to Moshe: Go in to Pharaoh. I hardened his heart, and the heart of his servants, that I may show these my signs in the midst of them.

2 You will tell in the ears of your son, and of your son's son, what things I wrought upon Egypt, and my signs I did among them, that you know I am Yahwah.

3 Moshe and Aaron went in to Pharaoh, and said to him: Thus says Yahwah, the Father of the Hebrews; How long will you refuse to humble yourself before Me? Let my people go, that they may serve Me.

4 Else, if you refuse to let my people go, behold, tomorrow I will bring locusts into your border.

5 They will cover the face of the earth, so one will not be able to see the earth. They will eat the residue of what is escaped, what remains to you from the hail, and will eat every tree which grows out of the field for you.

6 Your houses will be filled, the houses of all your servants, and the houses of all the Egyptians, as neither your fathers nor your fathers' fathers saw since the day they were upon the earth to this day. He turned, and went out from Pharaoh.

7 Pharaoh's servants said to him: How long will this man be a snare to us? Let the men go, that they serve God their Father. Do you not yet know Egypt is destroyed?

8 Moshe and Aaron were brought again to Pharaoh. He said to them: Go, serve Yahwah your Father. But who are those who will go?

9 Moshe said: We will go with our young and with our old. With our sons and with our daughters, with our flocks and with our herds we will go. We must hold a feast to Yahwah.

10 Pharaoh said to them: So be Yahwah with you, if ever I let you and your little ones go! Look, you have some evil purpose before your face.

11 Not so. Go now you who are men, and serve Yahwah. That is what you desire. They were driven out from Pharaoh's presence.

12 Yahwah said to Moshe: Stretch out your hand over the land of Egypt for the locusts, that they may come up upon the land of Egypt, and eat every herb of the land, even all the hail left.

13 Moshe stretched forth his rod over the land of Egypt. Yahwah brought an east wind upon the land all that day, and all the night. When it was morning the east wind brought the locusts.

14 The locusts went up over all the land of Egypt, and rested in all the borders of Egypt. They were very grievous. Before them there were no such locusts as they, neither after them shall be such.

15 They covered the face of the whole earth, so the land was darkened. They ate every herb of the land, and all the fruit of the trees the hail left. There did not remain any green thing, either tree or herb of the field, through all the land of Egypt.

16 Pharaoh called for Moshe and Aaron in haste, and he said: I sinned against Yahwah your Father, and against you.

17 I pray you, forgive my sin only this once. Ask Yahwah your Father, that He may take away from me this death only.

18 He went out from Pharaoh, and asked Yahwah.

19 Yahwah turned an exceeding strong west wind, which took up the locusts, and drove them into the Red Sea. There remained not one locust in all the border of Egypt.

20 But Yahwah hardened Pharaoh's heart, and he did not let the children of Yisrayah go.

21 Yahwah said to Moshe: Stretch out your hand toward heaven, that there is darkness over the land of Egypt, even darkness which may be felt.

22 Moshe stretched forth his hand toward heaven. There was a thick darkness in all the land of Egypt three days.

23 They did not see one another, neither did any one rise from his place for three days. But all the children of Yisrayah had light in their dwellings.

24 Pharaoh called to Moshe, and said: Go, serve Yahwah. Only let your flocks and your herds be stayed. Let your little ones also go with you.

25 Moshe said: You must also give sacrifices and burnt-offerings into our hand, that we may sacrifice to Yahwah our Father.

26 Our cattle will also go with us, there will not be a hoof left behind. For of them we must take to serve Yahwah our Father. We do not know with what we must serve Yahwah, until we come there.

27 But Yahwah hardened Pharaoh's heart, and he would not let them go.

28 Pharaoh said to him: Get you from me, take heed to yourself, see my face no more. For you will die in the day you see my face.

29 Moshe said: You spoke well. I will see your face again no more.

Chapter 11

1 Yahwah said to Moshe: I will bring yet one more plague upon Pharaoh, and upon Egypt. Afterwards he will let you go from here. When he lets you go, he will surely thrust you out of here altogether.

2 Speak then in the ears of the people. Let them ask every man of his neighbor, and every woman of her neighbor, jewels of silver, and jewels of gold.

3 Yahwah gave the people favor in the sight of the Egyptians. Moreover the man Moshe was very great in the land of Egypt, in the sight of Pharaoh's servants, and in the sight of the people.

4 Moshe said: Thus says Yahwah; About midnight I will go out into the land of Egypt.

5 All the first-born in the land of Egypt will die, from the first-born of Pharaoh who sits upon his throne, even to the first-born of the maid-servant who is behind the mill. And all the first-born of cattle.

6 There will be a great cry throughout all the land of Egypt, such as has not been, nor will be any more.

7 A dog will not move his tongue against any of the children of Yisrayah, against man or beast, that you know Yahwah makes a distinction between the Egyptians and Yisrayah.

8 All these your servants will come down to me, and bow down themselves to me, saying: Get you out, and all the people who follow you. After that I will go out. He went out from Pharaoh in hot anger.

9 Yahwah said to Moshe: Pharaoh does not hearken to you, so my wonders are multiplied in the land of Egypt.

10 Moshe and Aaron did all these wonders before Pharaoh. Yahwah hardened Pharaoh's heart, and he did not let the children of Yisrayah go out of his land.

Chapter 12

1 Yahwah spoke to Moshe and Aaron in the land of Egypt, saying:

2 This month [Abib] is the beginning of months to you. It is the first month of the year to you.

3 Speak to all the congregation of Yisrayah, saying: In the tenth day of this month they will take to them every man a lamb, according to their fathers' houses, a lamb for a household.

4 If the household is too little for a lamb, then he and his neighbor next to his house will take one according to the number of the souls. According to every man's eating you will make your count for the lamb.

5 Your lamb will be without blemish, a male a year old. Take it from the sheep, or from the goats.

6 Keep it until the fourteenth day of the same month. The whole assembly of the congregation of Yisrayah will kill it between the evenings.

7 Take of the blood, put it on the two side-posts and on the lintel, upon the houses wherein they eat it.

8 Eat the flesh that night, roast with fire, and unleavened bread. Eat it with bitter herbs.

9 Do not eat it raw, nor boiled at all with water. Roast its head, its legs, and the inwards thereof, with fire.

10 Let nothing remain of it until the morning. Burn with fire what remains of it until the morning.

11 And thus you will eat it: with your loins clothed, your shoes on your feet, and your staff in your hand. You will eat it in haste. It is Yahwah's Passover.

12 I will go through the land of Egypt that night, and will smite all the first-born in the land of Egypt, both man and beast. I will execute judgments against all the gods of Egypt. I am Yahwah.

13 The blood will be for a token to you upon the houses where you are. When I see the blood, I will pass over you. There will be no plague upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt.

14 This day is a memorial to you, you will keep it a feast to Yahwah. You will keep it a feast throughout your generations by an ordinance for ever.

15 Seven days you will eat unleavened bread. Even the first day you will put away leaven out of your houses. Whosoever eats leavened bread from the first day until the seventh day, that soul is cut off from Yisrayah.

16 The first day is a holy convocation to you, and in the seventh day a holy convocation. No manner of work will be done in them, save what every man must eat, that only may be done by you.

17 You will observe the feast of unleavened bread. In this selfsame day I brought your hosts out of the land of Egypt. Therefore you will observe this day throughout your generations by an ordinance for ever.

18 In the first month, on the fourteenth day of the month at even, you will eat unleavened bread, until the one and twentieth day of the month at even.

19 Seven days there will be no leaven found in your houses. Whosoever eats that which is leavened, that soul is cut off from the congregation of Yisrayah, whether he is a sojourner, or one born in the land.

20 You will eat nothing leavened. In all your habitations you will eat unleavened bread.

21 Then Moshe called for all the elders of Yisrayah, and said to them: Draw out, take lambs according to your families, and kill the passover.

22 Take a bunch of hyssop, dip it in the blood that is in the basin. Strike the lintel and the two side-posts with the blood that is in the basin. None of you will go out of the door of his house until the morning.

23 Yahwah will pass through to smite the Egyptians. When He sees the blood upon the lintel, and on the two side-posts, Yahwah will pass over the door, and will not allow the destroyer to come in to your houses to smite you.

24 You will observe this thing for an ordinance to you and to your sons forever.

25 It shall come to pass, when you are come to the land Yahwah gives you, according as He promised, you will keep this service.

26 It will come to pass, your children will say to you: What do you mean by this service?

27 You will say: It is the sacrifice of Yahwah's Passover, who passed over the houses of the children of Yisrayah in Egypt, when He smote the Egyptians and delivered our houses. The people bowed the head, and worshipped.

28 The children of Yisrayah went and did so. As Yahwah commanded Moshe and Aaron, so they did.

29 It came to pass at midnight, Yahwah smote all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the first-born of Pharaoh who sat on his throne to the first-born of the captive who was in the dungeon. And all the first-born of cattle. [Exodus 4:22-23]

30 Pharaoh rose up in the night, he, all his servants, and all the Egyptians. There was a great cry in Egypt, for there was not a house where there was not one dead.

31 He called for Moshe and Aaron by night, and said: Rise up, get you forth from among my people, both you and the children of Yisrayah. Go, serve Yahwah, as you said.

32 Take both your flocks and your herds, as you said, and be gone. And bless me also.

33 The Egyptians were urgent upon the people, to send them out of the land in haste. For they said: We are all dead men.

34 The people took their dough before it was leavened, their kneading-troughs being bound up in their clothes upon their shoulders.

35 The children of Yisrayah did according to the word of Moshe. They asked of the Egyptians jewels of silver, jewels of gold, and garments.

36 Yahwah gave the people favor in the sight of the Egyptians, so they let them have what they asked. They despoiled the Egyptians.

37 The children of Yisrayah journeyed from Rameses to Succoth, about six hundred thousand on foot that were men, besides children.

38 A mixed multitude went up also with them. And flocks, herds, even very much cattle.

39 They baked unleavened cakes of the dough they brought forth out of Egypt. It was not leavened because they were thrust out of Egypt, and could not tarry, neither did they prepare any victuals for themselves.

40 The time the children of Yisrayah dwelt in Egypt was four hundred and thirty years.

41 It came to pass at the end of four hundred and thirty years, even the selfsame day it came to pass, all the hosts of Yahwah went out from the land of Egypt.

42 It is a night to be much observed to Yahwah for bringing them out from the land of Egypt. This is that night of Yahwah, to be much observed of all the children of Yisrayah throughout their generations.

43 Yahwah said to Moshe and Aaron: This is the ordinance of the Passover. No foreigner will eat it.

44 But every man's servant that is bought for money, when you circumcise him, then he will eat of it.

45 A sojourner and a hired servant will not eat of it.

46 It will be eaten in one house. You will not carry forth any of the flesh abroad out of the house. Neither will you break a bone of it.

47 All the congregation of Yisrayah will keep it.

48 When a stranger sojourns with you, and will keep the passover to Yahwah, let all his males be circumcised, and then let him come near and keep it. He will be as one born in the land. No uncircumcised person will eat it.

49 One torah [law and instruction] is to him that is home-born, and to the stranger that sojourns among you.

50 Thus did all the children of Yisrayah. As Yahwah commanded Moshe and Aaron, so they did.

51 It came to pass the same day, Yahwah brought the children of Yisrayah out of the land of Egypt by their hosts.

Chapter 13

1 Yahwah spoke to Moshe, saying:

2 Sanctify all the first-born to me. Whatsoever opens the womb among the children of Yisrayah, both of man and of beast, it is mine.

3 Moshe said to the people: Remember this day in which you came out from Egypt, out of the house of bondage. Yahwah brought you out from this place by strength of hand. There will be no leavened bread eaten.

4 This day you go forth in the month Abib.

5 It will be, you will keep this service in this month when Yahwah brings you into the land of the Canaanite, the Hittite, the Amorite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite, which He swore to your fathers to give you, a land flowing with milk and honey.

6 Seven days you will eat unleavened bread, and the seventh day is a feast to Yahwah.

7 Unleavened bread will be eaten throughout the seven days. No leavened bread will be seen with you, neither will leaven be seen with you in all your borders.

8 You will tell your son in that day, saying: It is because of what Yahwah did for me when I came forth out of Egypt.

9 It is a sign to you upon your hand, and a memorial between your eyes, that the torah of Yahwah is in your mouth. Yahwah brought you out of Egypt with a strong hand.

10 You will keep this ordinance in its season from year to year.

11 It will be, when Yahwah brings you into the land of the Canaanite (as He swore to you and to your fathers) and gives it you,

12 you will set apart to Yahwah all that opens the womb, and every firstling you have that comes of a beast. The males are Yahwah's.

13 Every firstling of an ass you will redeem with a lamb. If you will not redeem it, you will break its neck. You will redeem all the firstborn of man among your sons.

14 It will be, when your son asks you in time to come, saying: What is this? You will say to him: By strength of hand Yahwah brought us out from Egypt, from the house of bondage.

15 It came to pass, when Pharaoh would hardly let us go, Yahwah killed all the first-born in the land of Egypt, both the first-born of man, and the first-born of beast. Therefore I sacrifice to Yahwah all that opens the womb, being males, but all the first-born of my sons I redeem.

16 It is a sign upon your hand, and frontlets between your eyes. Yahwah brought us forth out of Egypt by strength of hand.

17 It came to pass, when Pharaoh let the people go, Yahwah did not lead them by the way of the land of the Philistines, although that was near. For Yahwah said: Maybe the people will repent when they see war, and they return to Egypt.

18 Yahwah led the people about by the way of the wilderness by the Red Sea. The children of Yisrayah went up out of the land of Egypt armed.

19 Moshe took the bones of Yahusef with him. He had straitly sworn the children of Yisrayah, saying: Yahwah will surely visit you, and you will carry up my bones away from here with you.

20 They took their journey from Succoth, and encamped in Etham, in the edge of the wilderness.

21 Yahwah went before them by day in a pillar of cloud, to lead them the way, and by night in a pillar of fire, to give them light, that they might go by day and by night.

22 The pillar of cloud by day, and the pillar of fire by night, did not depart from before the people.

Chapter 14

1 Yahwah spoke to Moshe, saying:

2 Speak to the children of Yisrayah, that they turn back and camp before Pi-hahiroth, between Migdol and the sea, before Baal-zephon. Opposite it you will camp by the sea.

3 Pharaoh will say of the children of Yisrayah: They are entangled in the land, the wilderness has shut them in.

4 I will harden Pharaoh's heart, and he will follow after them. I will get Me honor upon Pharaoh, and upon all his host. The Egyptians will know I am Yahwah. They did so.

5 It was told the king of Egypt the people were fled. The heart of Pharaoh and of his servants was changed towards the people, and they said: What is this we did, that we let Yisrayah go from serving us?

6 He made his chariot ready, and took his people with him.

7 He took six hundred chosen chariots, all the chariots of Egypt, and captains over all of them.

8 Yahwah hardened the heart of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and he pursued after the children of Yisrayah. For the children of Yisrayah went out with a high hand.

9 The Egyptians pursued after them, all the horses and chariots of Pharaoh, his horsemen, and his army. They overtook them camping by the sea, beside Pi-hahiroth, before Baal-zephon.

10 When Pharaoh drew near, the children of Yisrayah lifted up their eyes. Behold, the Egyptians were marching after them. They were sore afraid. The children of Yisrayah cried out to Yahwah.

11 They said to Moshe: Did you take us away to die in the wilderness because there were no graves in Egypt? Why did you deal thus with us, to bring us forth out of Egypt?

12 Is this not the word we spoke to you in Egypt, saying: Let us alone, that we may serve the Egyptians? It was better for us to serve the Egyptians, than die in the wilderness.

13 Moshe said to the people: Do not fear, stand still, and see the salvation of Yahwah, which He will work for you today. The Egyptians you see today, you will see again no more forever.

14 Yahwah will fight for you, and you will hold your peace.

15 Yahwah said to Moshe: Why do you cry to me? Speak to the children of Yisrayah, that they go forward.

16 Lift up your rod, stretch out your hand over the sea, and divide it. The children of Yisrayah will go into the middle of the sea on dry ground.

17 Behold, I will harden the hearts of the Egyptians, and they will go in after them. I will get Me honor upon Pharaoh, upon all his host, upon his chariots, and upon his horsemen.

18 The Egyptians will know I am Yahwah, when I get honor upon Pharaoh, upon his chariots, and upon his horsemen.

19 The malak of Yahwah, who went before the camp of Yisrayah, removed and went behind them (the pillar of cloud removed from before them, and stood behind them).

20 It came between the camp of Egypt and the camp of Yisrayah. There was the cloud and the darkness, yet it gave light by night. So the one did not come near the other all the night.

21 Moshe stretched out his hand over the sea. Yahwah caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all the night. The waters were divided, and made the sea dry land.

22 The children of Yisrayah went into the middle of the sea upon the dry ground. The waters were a barrier to them on their right hand, and on their left.

23 The Egyptians pursued, and went in after them into the middle of the sea, all Pharaoh's horses, his chariots, and his horsemen.

24 It came to pass in the morning watch, Yahwah looked forth upon the host of the Egyptians through the pillar of fire and of cloud, and discomfited the host of the Egyptians.

25 He took off their chariot wheels, and they drove them heavily. So the Egyptians said: Let us flee from the face of Yisrayah. Yahwah fights for them against the Egyptians.

26 Yahwah said to Moshe: Stretch out your hand over the sea, that the waters may come again upon the Egyptians, upon their chariots, and upon their horsemen.

27 Moshe stretched forth his hand over the sea, and the sea returned to its strength when the morning appeared. The Egyptians fled against it. Yahwah overthrew the Egyptians in the middle of the sea.

28 The waters returned and covered the chariots, and the horsemen, even all the host of Pharaoh who went in after them into the sea. There remained not so much as one of them.

29 The children of Yisrayah walked upon dry land in the middle of the sea. The waters were a barrier to them on their right hand, and on their left.

30 Thus Yahwah saved Yisrayah that day out of the hand of the Egyptians, and Yisrayah saw the Egyptians dead upon the sea-shore.

31 Yisrayah saw the great work Yahwah did upon the Egyptians, and the people feared Yahwah. They believed in Yahwah, and in his servant Moshe.

Chapter 15

1 Then Moshe and the children of Yisrayah sang this song to Yahwah, and spoke, saying:

I will sing to Yahwah, for He triumphed gloriously.
The horse and his rider He threw into the sea.
2 Yah is my strength and song, He is become my salvation.
This is my Father, I will praise Him.
My father's Father, I will exalt Him.
3 Yahwah is a man of war. Yahwah is His Name.
4 Pharaoh's chariots and his host He cast into the sea.
His chosen captains are sunk in the Red Sea.
5 The deeps cover them.
They went down into the depths like a stone.
6 Your right hand, O Yahwah, is glorious in power.
Your right hand, O Yahwah, dashes the enemy in pieces.
7 In the greatness of your excellency you overthrow those who rise up against you.
You send forth your wrath, it consumes them as stubble.
8 With the blast of your nostrils the waters were piled up.
The floods stood upright as a heap.
The deeps were congealed in the heart of the sea.
9 The enemy said: I will pursue,
I will overtake, I will divide the spoil.
My desire will be satisfied upon them.
I will draw my sword, my hand will destroy them.
10 You blew with your wind, the sea covered them.
They sank as lead in the mighty waters.
11 Who is like to you, O Yahwah, among the gods?
Who is like you, glorious in holiness, fearful in praises, doing wonders?
12 You stretched out your right hand. The earth swallowed them.
13 You in your lovingkindness led the people you redeemed.
You guided them in your strength to your holy habitation.
14 The peoples heard, they tremble.
Pangs take hold on the inhabitants of Philistia.
15 Then were the chiefs of Edom dismayed.
The mighty men of Moab, trembling takes hold upon them.
All the inhabitants of Canaan are melted away.
16 Terror and dread falls upon them.
By the greatness of your arm they are as still as a stone.
Till your people pass over, O Yahwah.
Till the people pass over that you purchased.
17 You will bring them in, and plant them in the mountain of your inheritance.
The place, O Yahwah, which You made for You to dwell in.
The sanctuary, O Yahwah, which your hands established.
18 Yahwah will reign for ever and ever.

19 The horses of Pharaoh went in with his chariots and with his horsemen into the sea, and Yahwah brought back the waters of the sea upon them. But the children of Yisrayah walked on dry land in the middle of the sea.

20 Miriam the prophetess, the sister of Aaron, took a timbrel in her hand. All the women went out after her with timbrels, and with dances.

21 Miriam answered them: Sing to Yahwah, He triumphed gloriously. The horse and his rider He threw into the sea.

22 Moshe led Yisrayah onward from the Red Sea, and they went out into the wilderness of Shur. They went three days in the wilderness, and found no water.

23 When they came to Marah, they could not drink of the waters of Marah, for they were bitter. Therefore the name of it was called Marah.

24 The people murmured against Moshe, saying: What will we drink?

25 He cried to Yahwah. Yahwah showed him a tree, he cast it into the waters, and the waters were made sweet. He made a statute and an ordinance for them there, and He proved them.

26 He said: If you will diligently hearken to the voice of Yahwah your Father, and will do what is right in His eyes, and will give ear to His commandments, and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases upon you which I put upon the Egyptians. I am Yahwah who heals you.

27 They came to Elim, where were twelve springs of water, and threescore and ten palm-trees. They camped there by the waters.

Chapter 16

1 They took their journey from Elim, and all the congregation of the children of Yisrayah came to the wilderness of Sin, which is between Elim and Sinai, on the fifteenth day of the second month after their departing out of the land of Egypt.

2 The whole congregation of the children of Yisrayah murmured against Moshe and against Aaron in the wilderness.

3 The children of Yisrayah said to them: Would that we had died by the hand of Yahwah in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the fleshpots, when we ate bread to the full. You brought us forth into this wilderness, to kill this whole assembly with hunger.

4 Yahwah said to Moshe: Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you. The people will go out and gather a day's portion every day, that I may prove them, whether they will walk in my law and instruction, or not.

5 It will come to pass on the sixth day, they will prepare what they bring in, and it will be twice as much as they gather daily.

6 Moshe and Aaron said to all the children of Yisrayah: At even, you will know Yahwah brought you out from the land of Egypt.

7 In the morning, you will see the glory of Yahwah. He hears your murmurings against Yahwah. And who are we, that you murmur against us?

8 Moshe said: This will be, Yahwah will give you flesh to eat in the evening, and bread to the full in the morning. Yahwah hears your murmurings you murmur against Him, and what are we? Your murmurings are not against us, but against Yahwah.

9 Moshe said to Aaron: Say to all the congregation of the children of Yisrayah; Come near before Yahwah, for He hears your murmurings.

10 It came to pass, as Aaron spoke to the whole congregation of the children of Yisrayah, they looked toward the wilderness. Behold, the Glory of Yahwah appeared in the cloud.

11 Yahwah spoke to Moshe, saying:

12 I hear the murmurings of the children of Yisrayah. Speak to them, saying: Between the evenings you will eat flesh, and in the morning you will be filled with bread. You will know I am Yahwah your Father.

13 It came to pass at evening quails came up and covered the camp, and in the morning the dew lay round about the camp.

14 When the dew that lay was gone up, behold, upon the face of the wilderness a small round thing, small as the hoar-frost on the ground.

15 When the children of Yisrayah saw it, they said one to another: What is it? For they did not know what it was. Moshe said to them: It is the bread Yahwah gives you to eat.

16 This is the thing Yahwah commanded: Gather of it every man according to his eating. An omer a head, according to the number of your persons, you will take it, every man for those who are in his tent.

17 The children of Yisrayah did so, and gathered: some more, some less.

18 When they measured it with an omer, he that gathered much had nothing over, and he that gathered little had no lack. They gathered every man according to his eating.

19 Moshe said to them: Let no man leave of it till the morning.

20 But they did not hearken to Moshe. Some of them left of it until the morning. It bred worms, and became foul. Moshe was angry with them.

21 They gathered it morning by morning, every man according to his eating. When the sun waxed hot, it melted.

22 It came to pass, on the sixth day they gathered twice as much bread, two omers for each one. All the rulers of the congregation came and told Moshe.

23 He said to them: This is what Yahwah said. Tomorrow is a solemn rest, a holy sabbath to Yahwah. Bake what you will bake, and boil what you will boil. All that remains over lay up for you to be kept until the morning.

24 They laid it up till the morning, as Moshe said. It did not become foul, neither was there any worm in it.

25 Moshe said: Eat that today. Today is a sabbath to Yahwah, today you will not find it in the field.

26 Six days you will gather it. But on the seventh day is the sabbath, in it there is none.

27 It came to pass on the seventh day, some of the people went out to gather, and they found none.

28 Yahwah said to Moshe: How long do you refuse to keep my commandments and my torah?

29 See, Yahwah gave you the sabbath, therefore He gives you the bread of two days on the sixth day. Abide every man in his place, let no man go out of his place on the seventh day.

30 So the people rested on the seventh day.

31 The house of Yisrayah called the name of it: Manna. It was like coriander seed, white. The taste of it was like wafers made with honey.

32 Moshe said: This is the thing Yahwah commanded. Let an omerful of it be kept throughout your generations, that they may see the bread with which I fed you in the wilderness, when I brought you forth from the land of Egypt.

33 Moshe said to Aaron: Take a pot, put an omerful of manna therein, and lay it up before Yahwah, to be kept throughout your generations.

34 As Yahwah commanded Moshe, so Aaron laid it up before the Testimony, to be kept.

35 The children of Yisrayah ate the manna forty years, until they came to a land inhabited. They ate the manna until they came to the borders of the land of Canaan.

36 Now an omer is the tenth part of an ephah.

Chapter 17

1 All the congregation of the children of Yisrayah journeyed from the wilderness of Sin, by their journeys, according to the commandment of Yahwah, and camped in Rephidim. There was no water for the people to drink.

2 The people contended with Moshe, and said: Give us water so we may drink. Moshe said to them: Why do you strive with me? Why do you tempt Yahwah?

3 The people thirsted there for water. The people murmured against Moshe, and said: Why did you bring us up out of Egypt, to kill us, our children, and our cattle, with thirst?

4 Moshe cried to Yahwah, saying: What will I do to this people? They are almost ready to stone me.

5 Yahwah said to Moshe: Pass on before the people. Take with you of the elders of Yisrayah. Your rod with which you smote the river, take in your hand, and go.

6 Behold, I will stand before you there upon the rock in Horeb. You will smite the rock, and water will come out of it, so the people may drink. Moshe did so in the sight of the elders of Yisrayah.

7 He called the name of the place Massah, and Meribah, because of the striving of the children of Yisrayah, because they tempted Yahwah, saying: Is Yahwah among us, or not?

8 Then Amalek came, and fought with Yisrayah in Rephidim.

9 Moshe said to Yahushua [Joshua]: Choose us out men, and go out, fight with Amalek. Tomorrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the rod of Yahwah in my hand.

10 So Yahushua did as Moshe said to him, and fought with Amalek. Moshe, Aaron, and Hur, went up to the top of the hill.

11 It came to pass, Yisrayah prevailed when Moshe held up his hand. When he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed.

12 But his hands were heavy. They took a stone, put it under him, and he sat on it. Aaron and Hur held up his hands, the one on the one side, and the other on the other side. His hands were steady until the going down of the sun.

13 Yahushua discomfited Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword.

14 Yahwah said to Moshe: Write this for a memorial in a book, and rehearse it in the ears of Yahushua, that I will utterly blot out the descendants of Amalek from under heaven.

15 Moshe built an altar, and called the name of it Yahwah-nissi.

16 He said: Yah has sworn. Yahwah will have war with Amalek from generation to generation.

Chapter 18

1 Yethro, the priest of Midian, Moshe's father-in-law, heard of all Yahwah did for Moshe, and for Yisrayah His people, how Yahwah brought Yisrayah out of Egypt.

2 Yethro, Moshe's father-in-law, took Zipporah, Moshe's wife, after he sent her and her two sons away.

3 The name of the one was Gershom, for he said: I am a sojourner in a foreign land.

4 The name of the other was Eliezer, for he said: the Father of my father was my help, and delivered me from the sword of Pharaoh.

5 Yethro, Moshe's father-in-law, came with his sons and his wife to Moshe into the wilderness where he was camped, at the mount of Yahwah.

6 He said to Moshe: I, your father-in-law Yethro, am come to you, and your wife, and her two sons with her.

7 Moshe went out to meet his father-in-law, did obeisance, and kissed him. They asked each other of their welfare, and they came into the tent.

8 Moshe told his father-in-law all Yahwah did to Pharaoh and to the Egyptians for Yisrayah's sake, all the travail that come upon them by the way, and how Yahwah delivered them.

9 Yethro rejoiced for all the goodness Yahwah did to Yisrayah, in that He delivered them out of the hand of the Egyptians.

10 Yethro said: Blessed is Yahwah, who delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians, and out of the hand of Pharaoh, who delivered the people from under the hand of the Egyptians.

11 I know Yahwah is greater than all gods, yea, in the thing in which they dealt proudly against them.

12 Yethro, Moshe's father-in-law, took a burnt-offering and sacrifices for Yahwah. Aaron came, and all the elders of Yisrayah, to eat bread with Moshe's father-in-law before Yahwah.

13 It came to pass the next day, Moshe sat to judge the people. The people stood about Moshe from the morning to the evening.

14 When Moshe's father-in-law saw all he did to the people, he said: What is this thing you do to the people? Why do you sit yourself alone, and all the people stand about you from morning to even?

15 Moshe said to his father-in-law: The people come to me to inquire of Yahwah.

16 When they have a matter, they come to me. I judge between a man and his neighbor. I make them know the statutes of Yahwah, and His law.

17 Moshe's father-in-law said to him: The thing you do is not good.

18 You will surely wear away, both you, and this people that is with you. The thing is too heavy for you, you are not able to perform it yourself alone.

19 Hearken now to my voice, I will give you counsel, and Yahwah is with you. You be toward Yahwah for the people, and you bring the causes to Yahwah.

20 You teach them the statutes and the law, and show them The Way wherein they must walk, and the work they must do.

21 Moreover, provide able men out of all the people, such as fear Yahwah, men of truth, hating unjust gain. Place such over them, to be rulers of thousands, rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens.

22 Let them judge the people at all seasons. It shall be, every great matter they will bring to you, but every small matter they will judge themselves. So it will be easier for yourself, and they will bear the burden with you.

23 If you do this thing, and Yahwah command you so, you will be able to endure, and all this people will go to their place in peace.

24 Moshe hearkened to the voice of his father-in-law, and did all he said.

25 Moshe chose able men out of all Yisrayah, and made them heads over the people, rulers of thousands, rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens.

26 They judged the people at all seasons. The hard causes they brought to Moshe, but every small matter they judged themselves.

27 Moshe let his father-in-law depart, and he went his way into his own land.

Chapter 19

1 In the third month after the children of Yisrayah were gone forth out of the land of Egypt, the same day they came into the wilderness of Sinai.

2 When they were departed from Rephidim, and were come to the wilderness of Sinai, they camped in the wilderness, and there Yisrayah camped before the mount.

3 Moshe went up to Yahwah, and Yahwah called to him out of the mountain, saying: Thus you will say to the house of Yaacob, and tell the children of Yisrayah.

4 You saw what I did to the Egyptians, how I bore you on eagles' wings, and brought you to myself.

5 If you will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, you will be my own possession from among all peoples. All the earth is mine.

6 You will be a kingdom of priests to me, and a holy nation. These are the words you will speak to the children of Yisrayah.

7 Moshe came, called for the elders of the people, and set before them all these words Yahwah commanded him.

8 All the people answered together, and said: We will do all Yahwah spoke. Moshe reported the words of the people to Yahwah.

9 Yahwah said to Moshe: Lo, I come to you in a thick cloud, that the people may hear when I speak with you, and may also believe you for ever. Moshe told the words of the people to Yahwah.

10 Yahwah said to Moshe: Go to the people, sanctify them today and tomorrow, and let them wash their garments.

11 Be ready on the third day. On the third day Yahwah will come down in the sight of all the people upon mount Sinai.

12 Set bounds to the people round about, saying: Take heed to yourselves, that you not go up into the mount, or touch the border of it. Whosoever touches the mount will surely be put to death.

13 No hand will touch him, but he will surely be stoned, or shot through. Whether it is beast or man, he will not live. When the trumpet sounds long, they will come up to the mount.

14 Moshe went down from the mount to the people, sanctified the people, and they washed their garments.

15 He said to the people: Be ready for the third day. Do not come near a woman.

16 It came to pass on the third day, when it was morning, there were thunders and lightnings, a thick cloud upon the mount, and the voice of a trumpet exceeding loud. All the people in the camp trembled.

17 Moshe brought the people forth out of the camp to meet Yahwah, and they stood at the far part of the mount.

18 Mount Sinai, the whole of it, smoked, because Yahwah descended upon it in fire. The smoke thereof ascended as the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mount quaked greatly.

19 The voice of the trumpet waxed louder and louder. Moshe spoke, and Yahwah answered him by a voice.

20 Yahwah came down upon mount Sinai, to the top of the mount. Yahwah called Moshe to the top of the mount, and Moshe went up.

21 Yahwah said to Moshe: Go down, charge the people, unless they break through to Yahwah to gaze, and many of them perish.

22 Let the priests who come near to Yahwah sanctify themselves, unless Yahwah breaks forth upon them.

23 Moshe said to Yahwah: The people cannot come up to mount Sinai. You charged us, saying: Set bounds about the mount, and sanctify it.

24 Yahwah said to him: Go, get you down. You will come up, you, and Aaron with you. But do not let the priests and the people break through to come up to Yahwah, or He will break forth upon them.

25 So Moshe went down to the people, and told them.

Chapter 20

1 Yahwah spoke all these words, saying:

2 I am Yahwah your Father, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.

3 You will have no gods [elohim], only Me.

4 You will not make an idol with any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.

5 You will not bow yourself down to them [the idols and the gods], nor serve them. I Yahwah your Father am a jealous Father, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, upon the third and upon the fourth generation of those who hate me,

6 yet showing lovingkindness to thousands of those who love me and keep my commandments.

7 You will not bring the Name of Yahwah your Father to nothing, for Yahwah will not forgive him who brings His Name to nothing.

8 Remember the sabbath day by keeping it holy.

9 Six days you will labor, and do all your work.

10 But the seventh day is a sabbath to Yahwah your Father. In it you will not do any work, you, nor your son, nor your daughter, your manservant, nor your maid-servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger that is within your gates.

11 In six days Yahwah made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. So Yahwah blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

12 Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land Yahwah your Father gives you.

13 You will not murder.

14 You will not commit adultery.

15 You will not steal.

16 You will not bear false witness against your neighbor.

17 You will not covet your neighbor's house, you will not covet your neighbor's wife, nor his man-servant, nor his maid-servant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor anything that is your neighbor's.

18 All the people perceived the thunderings, the lightnings, the voice of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking. The people saw it, trembled, and stood afar off.

19 They said to Moshe: You speak with us, and we will hear. Let Yahwah not speak with us, or we will die.

20 Moshe said to the people: Do not fear. Yahwah is come to prove you, that His fear is before you, that you not sin.

21 The people stood afar off, and Moshe drew near to the thick darkness where Yahwah was.

22 Yahwah said to Moshe: Thus you will say to the children of Yisrayah; You yourselves see that I talk with you from heaven.

23 You will not make idols of Me. Idols of silver, or idols of gold, you will not make to you.

24 You will make to Me an altar of earth, and sacrifice your burnt-offerings on it, and your peace-offerings, your sheep, and your oxen. In every place where I record my Name I will come to you, and I will bless you.

25 If you make Me an altar of stone, you will not build it of hewn stones. If you lift up your tool upon it, you pollute it.

26 Neither will you go up by steps to my altar, that your nakedness is not uncovered.

Chapter 21

1 Set these ordinances before them.

2 If you buy a Hebrew servant, he will serve six years. In the seventh he will go out free for nothing.

3 If he come in by himself, he will go out by himself. If he is married, then his wife will go out with him.

4 If his master give him a wife and she bear him sons or daughters, the wife and her children are her master's, he will go out by himself.

5 But if the servant plainly says: I love my master, my wife, and my children, I will not go out free.

6 Then his master will bring him to Yahwah, and bring him to the door, or to the door-post. His master will bore his ear through with an awl, and he will serve him for ever.

7 If a man sell his daughter to be a maid-servant, she will not go out as the men-servants do.

8 If she does not please her master, who espoused her to himself, then he will let her be redeemed. He will have no power to sell her to a foreign people, seeing he dealt deceitfully with her.

9 If he espouse her to his son, he will deal with her after the manner of daughters.

10 If he takes another wife, he will not diminish her food, her clothing, and her conjugal rights.

11 If he does not do these three things to her, then she will go out for nothing, without [paying] money.

12 He who smites a man, so that he dies, will surely be put to death.

13 If a man did not lie in wait, but Yahwah delivered him into his hand, I will appoint you a place where he can flee.

14 If a man come presumptuously upon his neighbor, to kill him with guile, you will take him from my altar, that he die.

15 He who smites his father, or his mother, will surely be put to death.

16 He who steals a man, and sells him, or if he is found in his hand, he will surely be put to death.

17 He who curses his father or his mother, will surely be put to death.

18 If men contend, and one smite the other with a stone, or with his fist, and he not die, but keep his bed,

19 if he rise again, and walk abroad upon his staff, then he who smote him will be quit. Only he will pay for the loss of his time, and cause him to be thoroughly healed.

20 If a man smite his servant with a rod, or his maid, and he die under his hand, he will surely be punished.

21 Notwithstanding, if he continue a day or two, he will not be punished, for he is his money.

22 If men strive together and hurt a woman with child, so that her fruit depart, and yet no harm follow, he will be surely fined, according as the woman's husband lays upon him. He will pay as the judges determine.

23 If any harm follow, then you will give life for life,

24 eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot,

25 burning for burning, wound for wound, stripe for stripe.

26 If a man smite the eye of his servant, or the eye of his maid, and destroy it, he will let him go free for his eye's sake.

27 If he smite out his man-servant's tooth, or his maid-servant's tooth, he will let him go free for his tooth's sake.

28 If an ox gore a man or a woman to death, the ox will be surely stoned, its flesh will not be eaten, and the owner of the ox will be free.

29 If the ox was wont to gore in time past, and it was testified to its owner, and he did not keep it in, but it killed a man or a woman, the ox will be stoned, and its owner will be put to death also.

30 If there is laid a ransom on him, then he will give for the redemption of his life whatsoever is laid upon him.

31 Whether it gored a son, or gored a daughter, according to this judgment it will be done to him.

32 If the ox gore a man-servant or a maid-servant, there will be given to their master thirty shekels of silver, and the ox will be stoned.

33 If a man opens a pit, or if a man digs a pit and not cover it, and an ox or an ass falls in,

34 the owner of the pit will make it good. He will give money to the owner, and the dead beast will be his.

35 If one man's ox hurt another's, so that it dies, then they will sell the live ox, and divide the price of it, and the dead also they will divide.

36 If it is known the ox was wont to gore in time past, and its owner did not keep it in, he will surely pay ox for ox, and the dead beast will be his own.

Chapter 22

1 If a man steals an ox, or a sheep, and kills it, or sells it, he will pay five oxen for an ox, and four sheep for a sheep.

2 If the thief is found breaking in, and is smitten so he dies, there will be no bloodguiltiness for him.

3 If the sun is risen upon him, there will be bloodguiltiness for him, he will make restitution. If he has nothing, then he will be sold for his theft.

4 If the theft is found in his hand alive, whether it is an ox, or ass, or sheep, he will pay double.

5 If a man causes a field or vineyard to be eaten, if he lets his beast loose and it feeds in another man's field, he will make restitution of the best of his own field, and of the best of his own vineyard.

6 If fire break out, and catch in thorns, so the shocks of grain, or the standing grain, or the field are consumed, he who kindled the fire will surely make restitution.

7 If a man delivers to his neighbor money or stuff to keep, and it is stolen out of the man's house, if the thief is found, he will pay double.

8 If the thief is not found, the master of the house will come near to Yahwah, to see whether he put his hand to his neighbor's goods.

9 For every matter of trespass, whether it is for ox, for ass, for sheep, for clothing, or for any manner of lost thing, whereof one says: This is it; the cause of both parties will come before Yahwah. He whom Yahwah condemns will pay double to his neighbor.

10 If a man delivers an ass, or an ox, or a sheep, or any beast, to his neighbor to keep, and it dies, or is hurt, or driven away, no man seeing it,

11 the oath of Yahwah will be between them both, whether he put his hand to his neighbor's goods. The owner will accept it, and he will not make restitution.

12 But if it is stolen from him, he will make restitution to the owner.

13 If it is torn in pieces, let him bring it for witness, he will not make good that which was torn.

14 If a man borrow anything of his neighbor, and it is hurt, or die, the owner not being with it, he will surely make restitution.

15 If the owner is with it, he will not make it good. If it is a hired thing, it came for its hire.

16 If a man entice a virgin who is not betrothed, and have sex with her, he will surely pay a dowry for her to be his wife.

17 If her father utterly refuse to give her to him, he will pay money according to the dowry of virgins.

18 You will not allow a sorceress to live.

19 Whosoever lies with a beast will surely be put to death.

20 He who sacrifices to any god, save to Yahwah only, will be utterly destroyed.

21 You will not wrong a sojourner, neither will you oppress him, for you were sojourners in the land of Egypt.

22 You will not afflict any widow, or fatherless child.

23 If you afflict them at all, and they cry at all to Me, I will surely hear their cry.

24 My anger will wax hot, and I will kill you with the sword. Your wives will be widows, your children fatherless.

25 If you lend money to any of my people with you who is poor, you will not be to him as a creditor, neither will you lay interest upon him.

26 If you at all take your neighbor's garment to pledge, you will restore it to him before the sun goes down.

27 For that is his only covering, it is his garment for his skin. How will he sleep? It will come to pass, when he cries to me, I will hear, for I am gracious.

28 You will not revile Yahwah, nor curse a ruler of your people.

29 You will not delay to offer of your harvest, and of the outflow of your presses. The first-born of your sons you will give to Me.

30 Likewise you will do with your oxen, and with your sheep. Seven days it can be with its dam, on the eighth day you will give it me.

31 You will be holy men to me. You will not eat any flesh that is torn of beasts in the field, you will cast it to the dogs.

Chapter 23

1 You will not take up a false report. Do not put your hand with the wicked to be an unrighteous witness.

2 Do not follow a multitude to do evil, neither will you speak in a cause to turn aside after a multitude to wrest justice.

3 Neither will you favor a poor man in his cause.

4 If you meet your enemy's ox or his ass going astray, you will surely bring it back to him again.

5 If you see the ass of him who hates you lying under his burden, you will forbear to leave him, you will surely release it with him.

6 Do not wrest the justice due to your poor in his cause.

7 Keep far from a false matter. Do not kill the innocent and righteous, for I will not justify the wicked.

8 Take no bribe, for a bribe blinds those who have sight, and perverts the words of the righteous.

9 You will not oppress a sojourner, for you know the heart of a sojourner, seeing you were sojourners in the land of Egypt.

10 Sow your land six years, and gather in the increase.

11 Let it rest and lie fallow the seventh year, that the poor of your people may eat. What they leave the beast of the field will eat. In like manner you will deal with your vineyard, and with your oliveyard.

12 Six days you will do your work, and on the seventh day you will rest. Your ox and your ass may have rest, and the son of your handmaid, and the sojourner, may be refreshed.

13 Take heed in all things I said to you. Make no mention of the names of gods, neither let them be heard out of your mouth.

14 Three times you will keep a feast to me in the year.

15 Keep the feast of unleavened bread. Eat unleavened bread seven days, as I commanded you, at the time appointed in the month Abib (for in it you came out from Egypt). None will appear empty before Me.

16 And the feast of harvest, the first-fruits of your labors, which you sow in the field. And the feast of ingathering, at the end of the year, when you gather in your labors out of the field.

17 Three times in the year all your males will appear before the Father Yahwah.

18 Do not offer the blood of my sacrifice with leavened bread, nor let the fat of my feast remain all night until the morning.

19 Bring the first of the first-fruits of your ground into the house of Yahwah your Father. Do not boil a kid in its mother's milk.

20 Behold, I send a malak before you, to keep you by the way, and to bring you into the place I prepared. [Isaiah 40:3, Exodus 23:20, Malachi 3:1]

21 Take heed before him, hearken to his voice. Do not provoke him. He will not pardon your transgression, for My Name is in him.

22 If you hearken to his voice, and do all I speak, then I will be an enemy to your enemies, and an adversary to your adversaries.

23 My malak will go before you, and bring you in to the Amorite, the Hittite, the Perizzite, the Canaanite, the Hivite, the Jebusite, and I will cut them off.

24 Do not bow down to their gods, nor serve them, nor do after their works. Overthrow them utterly, and break their pillars in pieces.

25 Serve Yahwah your Father. He will bless your bread, your water, and I will take sickness away from the midst of you.

26 None will cast her young, nor be barren, in your land. I will fulfil the number of your days.

27 I will send my terror before you, and will discomfit all the people to whom you will come. I will make all your enemies turn their backs to you.

28 I will send the hornet before you, which will drive out the Hivite, the Canaanite, and the Hittite, from before you.

29 I will not drive them out from before you in one year, lest the land become desolate, and the beasts of the field multiply against you.

30 I will drive them out from before you by little and little, until you are increased, and inherit the land.

31 I will set your border from the Red Sea even to the sea of the Philistines, and from the wilderness to the River. I will deliver the inhabitants of the land into your hand, and you will drive them out before you.

32 You will make no covenant with them, nor with their gods.

33 They will not dwell in your land, unless they make you sin against me. If you serve their gods, it will surely be a snare to you.

Chapter 24

1 He said to Moshe: Come up to Yahwah, you, Aaron, Nadab, Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Yisrayah, and worship afar off.

2 Moshe alone will come near to Yahwah, they will not come near, neither will the people go up with him.

3 Moshe came and told the people all the words of Yahwah, and all the ordinances. All the people answered with one voice, and said: We will do all the words Yahwah spoke.

4 Moshe wrote all the words of Yahwah. He rose up early in the morning, and built an altar under the mount, with twelve pillars, according to the twelve tribes of Yisrayah.

5 He sent young men of the children of Yisrayah, who offered burnt-offerings, and sacrificed peace-offerings of oxen to Yahwah.

6 Moshe took half of the blood and put it in basins, and half of the blood he sprinkled on the altar.

7 He took the book of the covenant, and read in the audience of the people. They said: We will do all Yahwah spoke, and be obedient.

8 Moshe took the blood, sprinkled it on the people, and said: Behold the blood of the covenant, which Yahwah made with you concerning all these words.

9 Then Moshe went up, with Aaron, Nadab, Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Yisrayah.

10 They saw the Father of Yisrayah. Under His feet there was as it were a paved work of sapphire stone, and as it were the very heaven for clearness.

11 He did not lay His hand upon the nobles of the children of Yisrayah. They beheld Yahwah, ate, and drank.

12 Yahwah said to Moshe: Come up to Me into the mount, and be here. I will give you tablets of stone, the law and the mitzwah, which I wrote, so you may teach them.

13 Moshe rose up, with Yahushua his minister, and Moshe went up into the mount of Yahwah.

14 He said to the elders: Tarry here for us, until we come again to you. Behold, Aaron and Hur are with you. Whosoever has a cause, let him come near to them.

15 Moshe went up into the mount, and the cloud covered the mount.

16 The Glory of Yahwah abode upon mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it six days. And the seventh day he called to Moshe out of the middle of the cloud.

17 The appearance of the Glory of Yahwah was like devouring fire on the top of the mount in the eyes of the children of Yisrayah.

18 Moshe entered into the middle of the cloud, and went up into the mount. Moshe was in the mount forty days and forty nights.

21 In the tent of meeting, without the veil which is before the testimony, Aaron and his sons will keep it in order from evening to morning before Yahwah. It is a statue for ever throughout their generations on the behalf of the children of Yisrayah.

Chapter 28

1 Bring Aaron your brother near to you, and his sons with him, from among the children of Yisrayah, that he may minister to me in the priest's office, even Aaron, Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar, Aaron's sons.

2 Make holy garments for Aaron your brother, for glory and for beauty.

3 Speak to all who are wise-hearted, whom I filled with the spirit of wisdom, that they make Aaron's garments to sanctify him, that he may minister to Me in the priest's office.

4 These are the garments they will make. A breastplate, an ephod, a robe, a coat of checker work, a mitre, and a girdle. They will make holy garments for Aaron your brother, and his sons, that he may minister to Me in the priest's office.

5 Take the gold, the blue, the purple, the scarlet, and the fine linen.

9 Take two onyx stones, and grave on them the names of the children of Yisrayah.

10 Six of their names on the one stone, and the names of the six that remain on the other stone, according to their birth.

11 Engrave the two stones with the work of an engraver in stone, like the engravings of a signet, according to the names of the children of Yisrayah. Make them to be inclosed in settings of gold.

12 Put the two stones upon the shoulder-pieces of the ephod, to be stones of memorial for the children of Yisrayah. Aaron will bear their names before Yahwah upon his two shoulders for a memorial.

13 Make settings of gold,

14 and two chains of pure gold. Make them like cords, of wreathen work, and put the wreathen chains on the settings.

15 Make a breastplate of judgment, the work of the skilful workman. Make it like the work of the ephod. Make it of gold, of blue, purple, and scarlet, fine twined linen.

16 Foursquare it will be, and double. A span is the length thereof, and a span the breadth thereof.

18 the second row an emerald, a sapphire, and a diamond;

19 the third row a jacinth, an agate, and an amethyst;

20 and the fourth row a beryl, an onyx, and a jasper. They will be inclosed in gold in their settings.

21 The stones will be according to the names of the children of Yisrayah, twelve, according to their names. Like the engravings of a signet, every one according to his name, they are for the twelve tribes.

28 Bind the breastplate by the rings thereof to the rings of the ephod with a lace of blue, that it may be upon the skilfully woven band of the ephod, so the breastplate is not loosed from the ephod.

29 Aaron will bear the names of the children of Yisrayah in the breastplate of judgment upon his heart, when he goes in to the holy place, for a memorial before Yahwah continually.

30 Put the Urim and the Thummim in the breastplate of judgment. They will be upon Aaron's heart, when he goes in before Yahwah. Aaron will bear the judgment of the children of Yisrayah upon his heart before Yahwah continually.

31 Make the robe of the ephod all of blue.

33 Make pomegranates of blue upon the skirts of it, of purple, and of scarlet, round about the skirts thereof, and bells of gold between them round about.

34 A golden bell and a pomegranate, a golden bell and a pomegranate, upon the skirts of the robe round about.

35 It will be upon Aaron to minister. The sound thereof will be heard when he goes in to the holy place before Yahwah, and when he comes out, that he not die.

36 Make a plate of pure gold, and grave upon it, like the engravings of a signet, HOLY TO YHWH.

37 Put it on a lace of blue, it will be upon the mitre, it will be upon the forefront of the mitre.

38 It will be upon Aaron's forehead. Aaron will bear the iniquity of the holy things, which the children of Yisrayah shall hallow in all their holy gifts. It will be always upon his forehead, that they may be accepted before Yahwah.

39 Weave the coat in checker work of fine linen, make a mitre of fine linen, and make a girdle, the work of the embroiderer.

40 Make coats for Aaron's sons, and make girdles for them, and make head-tires for them, for glory and for beauty.

41 Put them upon Aaron your brother, and upon his sons with him. Anoint them, consecrate them, and sanctify them, that they minister to me in the priest's office.

42 Make linen breeches to cover the flesh of their nakedness. From the loins even to the thighs they shall reach.

43 They will be upon Aaron, and upon his sons, when they go in to the tent of meeting, or when they come near to the altar to minister in the holy place, that they not bear iniquity, and die. It is a statute for ever to him, and to his seed after him.

Chapter 29

1 This is the thing you will do to them to hallow them, to minister to Me in the priest's office. Take one young bull and two rams without blemish,

2 unleavened bread, cakes unleavened mingled with oil, and wafers unleavened anointed with oil. Make them of fine wheat flour.

3 Put them into one basket, and bring them in the basket, with the bull and the two rams.

4 Bring Aaron and his sons to the door of the tent of meeting, and wash them with water.

5 Take the garments, and put the coat upon Aaron, the robe of the ephod, the ephod, the breastplate, gird him with the skilfully woven band of the ephod,

6 set the mitre upon his head, and put the holy crown upon the mitre.

7 Take the anointing oil, pour it upon his head, and anoint him.

8 Bring his sons, and put coats upon them.

9 Gird them with girdles, Aaron and his sons, and bind head-tires on them. They have the priesthood by a perpetual statute. You will consecrate Aaron and his sons.

10 Bring the bull before the tent of meeting. Aaron and his sons will lay their hands upon the head of the bull.

11 You will kill the bull before Yahwah, at the door of the tent of meeting.

12 Take of the blood of the bull, and put it upon the horns of the altar with your finger. Pour out all the blood at the base of the altar.

13 Take all the fat that covered the inwards, the caul upon the liver, the two kidneys, and the fat that is upon them, and burn them upon the altar.

14 The flesh of the bull, its skin, and its dung, you will burn with fire without the camp. It is a sin-offering.

15 Take the one ram, Aaron and his sons will lay their hands upon the head of the ram.

16 You will slay the ram, take its blood, and sprinkle it round about upon the altar.

17 Cut the ram into its pieces. Wash its inwards, its legs, and put them with its pieces, with its head.

18 Burn the whole ram upon the altar. It is a burnt-offering to Yahwah. It is a sweet savor, an offering made by fire to Yahwah.

19 Take the other ram, Aaron and his sons will lay their hands upon the head of the ram.

20 You will kill the ram. Take of its blood, put it upon the tip of the right ear of Aaron, upon the tip of the right ear of his sons, upon the thumb of their right hand, upon the great toe of their right foot, and sprinkle the blood upon the altar round about.

21 Take of the blood that is upon the altar, and of the anointing oil. Sprinkle it upon Aaron, upon his garments, upon his sons, and upon the garments of his sons with him. He will be hallowed, his garments, his sons, and his sons' garments with him.

22 Take the fat of the ram, the fat tail, the fat that covered the inwards, the caul of the liver, the two kidneys, the fat that is upon them, and the right thigh (for it is a ram of consecration),

23 one loaf of bread, one cake of oiled bread, and one wafer, out of the basket of unleavened bread that is before Yahwah.

24 Put the whole upon the hands of Aaron, and upon the hands of his sons. Wave them for a wave-offering before Yahwah.

25 Take them from their hands, and burn them on the altar upon the burnt-offering, for a sweet savor before Yahwah. It is an offering made by fire to Yahwah.

26 Take the breast of Aaron's ram of consecration, and wave it for a wave-offering before Yahwah, it will be your portion.

27 Sanctify the breast of the wave-offering, and the thigh of the heave-offering, which is waved and heaved up, of the ram of consecration, even of that which is for Aaron, and of that which is for his sons.

28 It will be for Aaron and his sons as their portion for ever from the children of Yisrayah, for it is a heave-offering. It will be a heave offering from the children of Yisrayah of the sacrifices of their peace-offerings, even their heave-offering to Yahwah.

29 The holy garments of Aaron will be for his sons after him, to be anointed in them, and to be consecrated in them.

30 The son that is priest in his stead will put them on seven days, when he comes into the tent of meeting to minister in the holy place.

31 Take the ram of consecration, and boil its flesh in a holy place.

32 Aaron and his sons will eat the flesh of the ram, and the bread that is in the basket, at the door of the tent of meeting.

33 They will eat those things with which atonement was made, to consecrate and to sanctify them. A stranger will not eat thereof, because they are holy.

34 If any of the flesh of the consecration, or of the bread, remain to the morning, burn the remainder with fire. It is not eaten, because it is holy.

35 Do to Aaron, and to his sons, according to all I commanded you. Seven days you will consecrate them.

36 Offer every day the bull of sin-offering for atonement. Cleanse the altar, when you make atonement for it, and anoint it, to sanctify it.

37 Seven days you will make atonement for the altar, and sanctify it. The altar will be most holy, whatsoever touches the altar will be holy.

38 Now this is that which you will offer upon the altar. Two lambs a year old day by day continually.

39 The one lamb you will offer in the morning, and the other lamb you will offer between the evenings.

40 With the one lamb a tenth part of an ephah of fine flour mingled with the fourth part of a hin of beaten oil, and the fourth part of a hin of wine for a drink-offering.

41 And the other lamb you will offer between the evenings, and shall do thereto according to the meal-offering of the morning, and according to the drink-offering thereof, for a sweet savor, an offering made by fire to Yahwah.

42 It will be a continual burnt-offering throughout your generations at the door of the tent of meeting before Yahwah, where I will meet with you, to speak to you.

43 I will meet with the children of Yisrayah, and the Tent will be sanctified by my glory.

44 I will sanctify the tent of meeting, and the altar. Aaron also and his sons I will sanctify, to minister to Me in the priest's office.

45 I will dwell among the children of Yisrayah, and will be their Father.

46 They know I am Yahwah their Father, who brought them forth out of the land of Egypt, that I might dwell among them. I am Yahwah their Father.

Chapter 30

1 Make an altar of acacia wood to burn incense upon.

2 A cubit is the length thereof, and a cubit the breadth thereof. It will be foursquare, and two cubits is the height thereof. The horns thereof will be of one piece with it.

3 Overlay it with pure gold, the top thereof, the sides thereof round about, and the horns thereof. Make to it a crown of gold round about.

4 Make two golden rings for it under the crown thereof. Upon the two ribs thereof, upon the two sides of it you will make them, they are for places for staves to bear it with which.

5 Make the staves of acacia wood, and overlay them with gold.

6 Put it before the veil that is by the ark of the testimony, before the mercy-seat that is over the testimony, where I will meet with you.

7 Aaron will burn thereon incense of sweet spices. He will burn it every morning when he dresses the lamps.

8 When Aaron lights the lamps between the evenings, he will burn it, a perpetual incense before Yahwah throughout your generations.

9 Offer no strange incense thereon, nor burnt-offering, nor meal-offering, and pour no drink-offering thereon.

10 Aaron will make atonement upon the horns of it once in the year. With the blood of the sin-offering of atonement once in the year he will make atonement for it throughout your generations. It is most holy to Yahwah.

11 Yahwah spoke to Moshe, saying:

12 When you take the sum of the children of Yisrayah, according to those who are numbered of them, they will give every man a ransom for his soul to Yahwah, when you number them, that there is no plague among them when you number them.

13 This they will give: every one that passes over to those who are numbered, half a shekel after the shekel of the sanctuary (the shekel is twenty gerahs), half a shekel for an offering to Yahwah.

14 Every one that passes over to those who are numbered, from twenty years old and upward, will give the offering of Yahwah.

15 The rich will not give more, and the poor will not give less, than the half shekel, when they give the offering of Yahwah, to make atonement for your souls.

16 Take the atonement money from the children of Yisrayah, appoint it for the service of the tent of meeting, that it is a memorial for the children of Yisrayah before Yahwah, to make atonement for your souls.

17 Yahwah spoke to Moshe, saying:

18 Make a laver of bronze, and the base thereof of bronze, whereat to wash. Put it between the tent of meeting and the altar, and put water therein.

19 Aaron and his sons will wash their hands and their feet thereat.

20 When they go into the tent of meeting, they will wash with water, that they not die, or when they come near to the altar to minister, to burn an offering made by fire to Yahwah.

21 They will wash their hands and their feet, that they not die. It will be a statute for ever to them, even to him and to his seed throughout their generations.

22 Moreover Yahwah spoke to Moshe, saying:

23 Take to you the chief spices. Of flowing myrrh five hundred shekels, of sweet cinnamon half so much, even two hundred and fifty, of sweet calamus two hundred and fifty,

24 of cassia five hundred, after the shekel of the sanctuary, and of olive oil a hin.

25 Make it a holy anointing oil, a perfume compounded after the art of the perfumer. It is a holy anointing oil.

26 Anoint the tent of meeting therewith, the ark of the testimony,

27 the table and all the vessels thereof, the candlestick and the vessels thereof, the altar of incense,

28 the altar of burnt-offering with all the vessels thereof, the laver, and the base thereof.

29 Sanctify them, that they are most holy. Whatsoever touches them will be holy.

30 Anoint Aaron and his sons, and sanctify them, that they may minister to Me in the priest's office.

31 Speak to the children of Yisrayah, saying: This is a holy anointing oil to me throughout your generations.

32 It will not be poured upon the flesh of man, neither will you make any like it, according to the composition thereof. It is holy, and it is holy to you.

33 Whosoever compounds any like it, or whosoever puts any of it upon a stranger, he is cut off from his people.

34 Yahwah said to Moshe: Take to you sweet spices, stacte, onycha, and galbanum, sweet spices with pure frankincense. Of each there will be a like weight.

35 Make incense of it, a perfume after the art of the perfumer, seasoned with salt, pure, and holy.

36 Beat some of it very small, and put of it before the testimony in the tent of meeting, where I will meet with you. It is most holy to you.

37 You will not make for yourselves the incense you make according to the composition thereof. To you it is holy for Yahwah.

38 Whosoever makes like to that, to smell thereof, he is cut off from his people.

Chapter 31

1 Yahwah spoke to Moshe, saying:

2 See, I call by name Bezalel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Yahudah.

3 I filled him with the Spirit of Yahwah, in wisdom, in understanding, in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship

4 to devise skilful works, to work in gold, in silver, in bronze,

5 in cutting of stones for setting, and in carving of wood, to work in all manner of workmanship.

6 Behold, I appoint with him Oholiab, the son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan. I put wisdom in the heart of all who are wise-hearted, that they may make all I commanded you.

7 The tent of meeting, the ark of the testimony, the mercy-seat that is thereupon, all the furniture of the Tent,

8 the table and its vessels, the pure candlestick with all its vessels, the altar of incense,

9 the altar of burnt-offering with all its vessels, the laver and its base,

10 the finely wrought garments, the holy garments for Aaron the priest, the garments of his sons, to minister in the priest's office,

11 the anointing oil, and the incense of sweet spices for the holy place. They will do according to all I commanded you.

12 Yahwah spoke to Moshe, saying:

13 Speak to the children of Yisrayah, saying; Verily you will keep my sabbaths. It is a sign between me and you throughout your generations, that you know I am Yahwah who sanctifies you.

14 Keep the sabbath, for it is holy to you. Every one who profanes it will surely be put to death. Whosoever does any work therein, that soul is cut off from among his people.

15 Six days shall work be done, but on the seventh day is a sabbath of solemn rest, holy to Yahwah. Whosoever does any work on the sabbath day, he will surely be put to death.

16 Wherefore the children of Yisrayah will keep the sabbath, to observe the sabbath throughout their generations, for a perpetual covenant.

17 It is a sign between Me and the children of Yisrayah for ever. For in six days Yahwah made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day He rested, and was refreshed.

18 When He made an end of communing with him upon mount Sinai, He gave the two tablets of the testimony to Moshe, tablets of stone, written with the finger of Yahwah.

Chapter 32

1 The people saw that Moshe delayed to come down from the mount. The people gathered themselves together to Aaron, and said to him: Up, make us a god, which will go before us. As for this Moshe, the man that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what is become of him.

2 Aaron said to them: Break off the golden rings which are in the ears of your wives, of your sons, and of your daughters, and bring them to me.

3 All the people broke off the golden rings which were in their ears, and brought them to Aaron.

4 He received it at their hand, fashioned it with a graving tool, and made it a molten calf. They said: These is your God, O Yisrayah, which brought you up out of the land of Egypt.

5 When Aaron saw this, he built an altar before it. And made proclamation, and said: Tomorrow is a feast to God.

6 They rose up early the next day, offered burnt-offerings, and brought peace-offerings. The people sat down to eat, to drink, and rose up to play.

7 Yahwah spoke to Moshe: Go, get down. Your people that you brought up out of the land of Egypt have corrupted themselves.

8 They quickly turned aside out of The Way I commanded them. They made a molten calf, worship it, sacrificed to it, and said: This is your God, O Yisrayah, which brought you up out of the land of Egypt.

9 Yahwah said to Moshe: I see this people. Behold, it is a stiffnecked people.

10 Now let Me alone, that my anger may wax hot against them, that I may consume them. I will make a great nation of you.

11 Moshe begged Yahwah his Father, and said: Yahwah, why does your anger wax hot against your people, that you brought forth out of the land of Egypt with great power, and with a mighty hand?

12 Why should the Egyptians speak, saying: For evil did He bring them forth, to kill them in the mountains, and to consume them from the face of the earth? Turn from your fierce wrath, and repent of this evil against your people.

13 Remember Abraham, Isaac, and Yisrayah, your servants, to whom you swore by your own self, and said to them: I will multiply your seed as the stars of heaven. I will give your seed all this land I spoke of, they will inherit it for ever.

14 Yahwah repented of the evil He said He would do to His people.

15 Moshe turned, and went down from the mount, with the two tablets of the testimony in his hand, tablets written on both their sides. On the one side and on the other they were written.

16 The tablets were the work of Yahwah, and the writing was the writing of Yahwah, graven upon the tablets.

17 When Yahushua heard the noise of the people as they shouted, he said to Moshe: There is a noise of war in the camp.

18 He said: It is not the voice of those who shout for mastery, neither is it the voice of those who cry for being overcome, but I hear the noise of those who sing.

19 It came to pass, as soon as he came near to the camp, he saw the calf, and the dancing. Moshe's anger waxed hot. He cast the tablets out of his hands, and broke them beneath the mount.

20 He took the calf they made, burnt it with fire, ground it to powder, strewed it upon the water, and made the children of Yisrayah drink of it.

21 Moshe said to Aaron: What did this people do to you, that you brought a great sin upon them?

22 Aaron said: Let the anger of my master not wax hot, you know the people, they are set on evil.

23 They said to me: Make us a God, which shall go before us. As for this Moshe, the man that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what is become of him.

24 I said to them: Whosoever has any gold, let them break it off. So they gave it me, I cast it into the fire, and there came out this calf.

25 Moshe saw the people were broken loose, for Aaron had let them loose for a derision among their enemies.

26 Moshe stood in the gate of the camp, and said: Whoso is on Yahwah's side, let him come to me. All the sons of Levi gathered themselves together to him.

27 He said to them: Thus says Yahwah, the Father of Yisrayah; Every man put his sword upon his thigh, go to and fro from gate to gate throughout the camp, kill every man his brother, every man his companion, and every man his neighbor.

28 The sons of Levi did according to the word of Moshe. There fell of the people that day about three thousand men.

29 Moshe said: Consecrate yourselves today to Yahwah. Yea, every man against his son, and against his brother, that He may bestow upon you a blessing today.

30 It came to pass the next day, Moshe said to the people: You sinned a great sin. Now I will go up to Yahwah, maybe I will make atonement for your sin.

31 Moshe returned to Yahwah, and said: Oh, this people sinned a great sin, and made a God of gold.

32 Yet now forgive their sin, if you will. If not, I pray you, blot me out of your book you wrote.

33 Yahwah said to Moshe: Whosoever sins against Me, I will blot him out of my book.

34 Now go, lead the people to the place of which I spoke to you. Behold, my malak goes before you. Nevertheless, in the day when I visit, I will visit their sin upon them.

35 Yahwah smote the people, because they made the calf which Aaron made.

Chapter 33

1 Yahwah spoke to Moshe: Depart, go up from here, you and the people you brought up out of the land of Egypt, to the land of which I swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Yaacob, saying; I give it to your seed, a land flowing with milk and honey.

2 I send a malak before you. I will drive out the Canaanite, the Amorite, the Hittite, the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite.

3 I will not go up in the midst of you, or I will consume you in the way, for you are a stiffnecked people.

4 The people mourned when they heard these evil tidings. No man put his ornaments on him.

5 Yahwah said to Moshe: Say to the children of Yisrayah; You are a stiffnecked people. If I go up into the midst of you for one moment, I will consume you. Put off your ornaments from you, that I may know what to do to you.

6 The children of Yisrayah stripped themselves of their ornaments from mount Horeb onward.

7 Moshe used to take the tent and to pitch it outside the camp, afar off from the camp. He called it: The tent of meeting. It came to pass, everyone that sought Yahwah went out to the tent of meeting, which was outside the camp.

8 It came to pass, when Moshe went out to the Tent, all the people rose up, stood, every man at his tent door, and looked after Moshe, until he was gone into the Tent.

9 It came to pass, when Moshe entered into the Tent, the pillar of cloud descended, stood at the door of the Tent, and Yahwah spoke with Moshe.

10 All the people saw the pillar of cloud stand at the door of the Tent, and all the people rose up and worshipped, every man at his tent door.

11 Yahwah spoke to Moshe face to face, as a man speaks to his friend. He turned again into the camp. His minister Yahushua, the son of Nun, a young man, did not depart out of the Tent.

12 Moshe said to Yahwah: See, you say to me; Bring up this people. And you have not let me know whom you will send with me. Yet you said: I know you by name, you found favor in my sight.

13 I pray you, if I have found favor in your sight, show me your ways now, that I may know you, to the end that I may find favor in your sight, and consider that this nation is your people.

14 He said: My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.

15 And he said to Him: If your presence does not go with me, do not carry us up from here.

16 How will it be known that I found favor in your sight, I and your people? Is it not in that you go with us, so that we are separated, I and your people, from all the people that are upon the face of the earth?

17 Yahwah said to Moshe: I will do this thing also that you spoke, for you found favor in my sight, and I know you by name.

18 And he said: I pray you, show me your glory.

19 He said: I will make all my goodness pass before you, and will proclaim the Name of Yahwah before you. I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will show mercy on whom I will show mercy.

20 He said: You can not see my face, for man can not see me and live.

21 Yahwah said: Behold, there is a place by Me, you will stand upon the rock.

22 It shall come to pass, I will put you in a cleft of the rock while my glory passes by. I will cover you with my hand until I have passed by.

23 I will take away my hand, and you will see my back, but my face will not be seen.

Chapter 34

1 Yahwah said to Moshe: Hew two tablets of stone like to the first. I will write upon the tablets the words that were on the first tablets, which you broke.

2 Be ready by the morning, come up in the morning to mount Sinai, and present yourself there to Me on the top of the mount.

3 No man will come up with you, neither let any man be seen throughout all the mount, neither let the flocks nor herds feed before that mount.

4 He hewed two tablets of stone like to the first. Moshe rose up early in the morning, went up to mount Sinai as Yahwah commanded him, and took in his hand two tablets of stone.

5 Yahwah descended in the cloud, stood with him there, and proclaimed the Name of Yahwah.

6 Yahwah passed by before him, and proclaimed: Yahwah, Yahwah, a Father merciful and gracious, slow to anger, abundant in lovingkindness and truth,

7 keeping lovingkindness for thousands; forgiving iniquity, transgression, and sin; who will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children's children, upon the third and upon the fourth generation.

8 Moshe made haste, and bowed his head toward the earth, and worshipped.

9 He said: If now I found favor in your sight, O Yahwah, I pray you, let Yahwah go in the midst of us. It is a stiffnecked people, pardon our iniquity and our sin, take us for your inheritance.

10 He said: Behold, I make a covenant. I will do marvels before all your people, such as has not been wrought in all the earth, nor in any nation. All the people among which you are will see the work of Yahwah, for it is a terrible thing I do with you.

11 Observe what I command you today. Behold, I drive out before you the Amorite, the Canaanite, the Hittite, the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite.

12 Take heed to yourself, do not make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land where you go, or it will be for a snare in the midst of you.

13 Break down their altars, and dash their pillars in pieces, and cut down their Easter idols [Asherim].

14 Worship no god (for Yahwah, whose Name is Jealous, is a jealous Father)

15 lest you make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land, and they play the harlot after their God, and sacrifice to their gods, and one call you, and you eat of his sacrifice.

16 Or you take of their daughters to your sons, and their daughters play the harlot after their gods, and make your sons play the harlot after their gods.

17 Make no molten gods [idols].

18 Keep the feast of unleavened bread. Seven days you will eat unleavened bread, as I commanded you, at the time appointed in the month Abib, for in the month Abib you came out from Egypt.

19 All that opens the womb is mine, and all your cattle that is male, the firstlings of cow and sheep.

20 The firstling of an ass you will redeem with a lamb. If you will not redeem it, then you will break its neck. All the first-born of your sons you will redeem. They will not see My face empty-handed.

21 Six days you will work, but on the seventh day you will rest. In plowing time and in harvest you will rest.

22 Observe the feast of weeks, even of the first-fruits of wheat harvest, and the feast of ingathering at the year's end.

23 Three times in the year all your males will appear before the Father Yahwah, the Father of Yisrayah.

24 I will cast out nations before you, and enlarge your borders. Neither will any man desire your land when you go up to appear before Yahwah your Father three times in the year.

25 Do not offer the blood of my sacrifice with leavened bread, neither let the sacrifice of the feast of the passover be left to the morning.

26 The first of the first-fruits of your ground you will bring to the house of Yahwah your Father. Do not boil a kid in its mother's milk.

27 Yahwah said to Moshe: Write these words, for after the tenor of these words I made a covenant with you and with Yisrayah.

28 He was there with Yahwah forty days and forty nights, he did not eat bread, nor drink water. He wrote the words of the covenant upon the tablets, the ten commandments.

29 It came to pass, Moshe came down from mount Sinai with the two tablets of the testimony in his hand. When he came down from the mount, Moshe did not know the skin of his face glowed by reason of his speaking with Him.

30 When Aaron and all the children of Yisrayah saw Moshe, behold, the skin of his face glowed, and they were afraid to come near him.

31 Moshe called to them. Aaron and all the rulers of the congregation returned to him, and Moshe spoke to them.

32 Afterward all the children of Yisrayah came near, and he gave them in commandment all that Yahwah spoke with him in mount Sinai.

33 When Moshe was done speaking with them, he put a veil on his face.

34 When Moshe went in before Yahwah to speak with Him, he took the veil off, until he came out. He came out and spoke to the children of Yisrayah what he was commanded.

35 The children of Yisrayah saw the face of Moshe, that the skin of Moshe's face glowed, and Moshe put the veil upon his face again, until he went in to speak with Him.

Chapter 35

1 Moshe assembled all the congregation of the children of Yisrayah, and said to them: These are the words Yahwah commanded, that you should do them.

2 Six days work will be done. But on the seventh day there is to you a holy day, a sabbath of solemn rest to Yahwah. Whosoever does any work in it will be put to death.

3 Kindle no fire throughout your habitations upon the sabbath day.

4 Moshe spoke to all the congregation of the children of Yisrayah, saying: This is the thing Yahwah commanded, saying;

5 Take from among you an offering to Yahwah. Whosoever is of a willing heart, let him bring it, Yahwah's offering. Gold, silver, bronze,

6 blue, purple, scarlet, fine linen, goats' hair,

7 rams' skins dyed red, sealskins, acacia wood,

8 oil for the light, spices for the anointing oil, the sweet incense,

9 onyx stones, and stones to be set for the ephod, and for the breastplate.

10 Let every wise-hearted man among you come, and make all that Yahwah commanded.

11 The tabernacle, its tent, its covering, its clasps, its boards, its bars, its pillars, and its sockets.

12 The ark, the staves thereof, the mercy-seat, and the veil of the screen.

13 The table, its staves, all its vessels, and the showbread.

14 The candlestick also for the light, its vessels, its lamps, and the oil for the light.

15 The altar of incense, its staves, the anointing oil, the sweet incense, and the screen for the door, at the door of the tabernacle.

16 The altar of burnt-offering, with its grating of bronze, it staves, and all its vessels, the laver and its base.

17 The hangings of the court, the pillars thereof, their sockets, and the screen for the gate of the court.

18 The pins of the tabernacle, the pins of the court, and their cords.

19 The finely wrought garments, for ministering in the holy place, the holy garments for Aaron the priest, and the garments of his sons, to minister in the priest's office.

20 All the congregation of the children of Yisrayah departed from the presence of Moshe.

21 They came, every one whose heart stirred him up, and every one whom his spirit made willing, and brought Yahwah's offering, for the work of the tent of meeting, for all the service thereof, and for the holy garments.

22 They came, both men and women, as many as were willing-hearted, and brought brooches, ear-rings, signet-rings, armlets, all jewels of gold, even every man that offered an offering of gold to Yahwah.

23 Every man with whom was found blue, purple, scarlet, fine linen, goats' hair, rams' skins dyed red, and sealskins, brought them.

24 Every one who offered an offering of silver and bronze brought Yahwah's offering. Every man with whom was found acacia wood for any work of the service, brought it.

25 All the women who were wise-hearted spun with their hands, and brought what they spun, the blue, the purple, the scarlet, and the fine linen.

26 All the women whose heart stirred them up in wisdom spun the goats' hair.

27 The rulers brought the onyx stones, and the stones to be set, for the ephod, and for the breastplate,

28 and the spice, and the oil for the light, and for the anointing oil, and for the sweet incense.

29 The children of Yisrayah brought a freewill-offering to Yahwah. Every man and woman, whose heart made them willing to bring for all the work Yahwah commanded by Moshe to be made.

30 Moshe said to the children of Yisrayah: See, Yahwah called by name Bezalel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Yahudah.

31 He filled him with the Spirit of Yahwah in wisdom, in understanding, in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship,

32 to devise skilful works, to work in gold, in silver, in bronze,

33 in cutting of stones for setting, and in carving of wood, to work in all manner of skilful workmanship.

34 He put in his heart that he may teach, both he, and Oholiab, the son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan.

35 He filled them with wisdom of heart, to work all manner of workmanship, of the engraver, of the skilful workman, and of the embroiderer, in blue, in purple, in scarlet, and in fine linen, of the weaver, even of those who do any workmanship, and of those that devise skilful works.

Chapter 36

1 Bezalel and Oholiab shall work, and every wise-hearted man, in whom Yahwah put wisdom and understanding to know how to work all the work for the service of the sanctuary, according to all Yahwah commanded.

2 Moshe called Bezalel and Oholiab, and every wise-hearted man in whose heart Yahwah put wisdom, even every one whose heart stirred him up to come to the work to do it.

3 They received of Moshe all the offering the children of Yisrayah brought for the work of the service of the sanctuary, with which to make it. They brought yet to him freewill-offerings every morning.

4 All the wise men, that wrought all the work of the sanctuary, came every man from his work which they wrought.

5 They spoke to Moshe, saying: The people bring much more than enough for the service of the work Yahwah commanded to make.

6 Moshe gave commandment, and they caused it to be proclaimed throughout the camp, saying: Let neither man nor woman make any more work for the offering of the sanctuary. So the people were restrained from bringing.

7 The stuff they had was sufficient for all the work to make it, and too much.

8 All the wise-hearted men among those who wrought the work made the tabernacle with ten curtains, of fine twined linen, blue, purple, and scarlet, with cherubim, the work of the skilful workman, Bezalel made them.

9 The length of each curtain was eight and twenty cubits, and the breadth of each curtain four cubits, all the curtains had one measure.

10 He coupled five curtains one to another, and the other five curtains he coupled one to another.

11 He made loops of blue upon the edge of the one curtain from the selvedge in the coupling, likewise he made in the edge of the curtain that was outmost in the second coupling.

12 Fifty loops he made in the one curtain, and fifty loops he made in the edge of the curtain that was in the second coupling, the loops were opposite one to another.

13 He made fifty clasps of gold, and coupled the curtains one to another with the clasps, so the tabernacle was one.

14 He made curtains of goats' hair for a tent over the tabernacle, eleven curtains he made them.

15 The length of each curtain was thirty cubits, and four cubits the breadth of each curtain, the eleven curtains had one measure.

16 He coupled five curtains by themselves, and six curtains by themselves.

17 He made fifty loops on the edge of the curtain that was outmost in the coupling, and fifty loops he made upon the edge of the curtain which was outmost in the second coupling.

18 He made fifty clasps of bronze to couple the tent together, that it might be one.

19 He made a covering for the tent of rams' skins dyed red, and a covering of sealskins above.

20 He made the boards for the tabernacle of acacia wood, standing up.

21 Ten cubits was the length of a board, and a cubit and a half the breadth of each board.

22 Each board had two tenons, joined one to another, thus he made for all the boards of the tabernacle.

23 He made the boards for the tabernacle, twenty boards for the south side southward.

24 He made forty sockets of silver under the twenty boards, two sockets under one board for its two tenons, and two sockets under another board for its two tenons.

25 For the second side of the tabernacle, on the north side, he made twenty boards,

26 their forty sockets of silver, two sockets under one board, and two sockets under another board.

27 For the hinder part of the tabernacle westward he made six boards.

28 He made two boards for the corners of the tabernacle in the hinder part.

29 They were double beneath, and in like manner they were entire to the top thereof to one ring, thus he did to both of them in the two corners.

30 There were eight boards, and their sockets of silver, sixteen sockets, under every board two sockets.

31 He made bars of acacia wood, five for the boards of the one side of the tabernacle,

32 and five bars for the boards of the other side of the tabernacle, and five bars for the boards of the tabernacle for the hinder part westward.

33 He made the middle bar to pass through in the midst of the boards from the one end to the other.

34 He overlaid the boards with gold, and made their rings of gold for places for the bars, and overlaid the bars with gold.

35 He made the veil of blue, purple, scarlet, and fine twined linen. With cherubim, the work of the skilful workman, he made it.

36 He made thereunto four pillars of acacia, and overlaid them with gold, their hooks were of gold. He cast four sockets of silver for them.

37 He made a screen for the door of the Tent, of blue, purple, scarlet, and fine twined linen, the work of the embroiderer,

38 and the five pillars of it with their hooks. He overlaid their capitals and their fillets with gold, and their five sockets were of bronze.

Chapter 37

1 Bezalel made the ark of acacia wood. Two cubits and a half was the length of it, and a cubit and a half the breadth of it, and a cubit and a half the height of it.

2 He overlaid it with pure gold within and without, and made a crown of gold to it round about.

3 He cast four rings of gold for it, in the four feet thereof, even two rings on the one side of it, and two rings on the other side of it.

4 He made staves of acacia wood, and overlaid them with gold.

5 He put the staves into the rings on the sides of the ark, to bear the ark.

6 He made a mercy-seat of pure gold, two cubits and a half was the length thereof, and a cubit and a half the breadth thereof.

7 He made two cherubim of gold, of beaten work he made them, at the two ends of the mercy-seat.

8 One cherub at the one end, and one cherub at the other end, of one piece with the mercy-seat he made the cherubim at the two ends thereof.

9 The cherubim spread out their wings on high, covering the mercy- seat with their wings, with their faces one to another, toward the mercy-seat were the faces of the cherubim.

10 He made the table of acacia wood, two cubits was the length thereof, and a cubit the breadth thereof, and a cubit and a half the height thereof.

11 He overlaid it with pure gold, and made thereto a crown of gold round about.

12 He made a border to it of a handbreadth round about, and made a golden crown to the border thereof round about.

13 He cast four rings of gold for it, and put the rings in the four corners that were on the four feet thereof.

14 Close by the border were the rings, the places for the staves to bear the table.

15 He made the staves to bear the table of acacia wood, and overlaid them with gold.

16 He made the vessels upon the table, the dishes thereof, the spoons thereof, the bowls thereof, and the flagons thereof, with which to pour out, of pure gold.

17 He made the candlestick of pure gold, of beaten work he made the candlestick. Its base, its shaft, its cups, it knops, and its flowers, were of one piece with it.

18 There were six branches going out of the sides thereof, three branches of the candlestick out of the one side thereof, and three branches of the candlestick out of the other side thereof.

19 Three cups made like almond-blossoms in one branch, a knop and a flower, and three cups made like almond-blossoms in the other branch, a knop and a flower, so for the six branches going out of the candlestick.

20 In the candlestick were four cups made like almond-blossoms, the knops thereof, and the flowers thereof.

21 A knop under two branches of one piece with it, a knop under two branches of one piece with it, and a knop under two branches of one piece with it, for the six branches going out of it.

22 Their knops and their branches were of one piece with it, the whole of it was one beaten work of pure gold.

23 He made the lamps thereof, seven, and the snuffers thereof, and the snuffdishes thereof, of pure gold.

24 Of a talent of pure gold made he it, and all the vessels thereof.

25 He made the altar of incense of acacia wood. A cubit was the length thereof, and a cubit the breadth thereof, foursquare, and two cubits was the height thereof. The horns thereof were of one piece with it.

26 He overlaid it with pure gold, the top thereof, and the sides thereof round about, and the horns of it, and he made to it a crown of gold round about.

27 He made two golden rings for it under the crown thereof, upon the two ribs thereof, upon the two sides of it, for places for staves with which to bear it.

28 He made the staves of acacia wood, and overlaid them with gold.

29 He made the holy anointing oil, and the pure incense of sweet spices, after the art of the perfumer.

Chapter 38

1 He made the altar of burnt-offering of acacia wood. Five cubits was the length thereof, five cubits the breadth thereof, foursquare, and three cubits the height thereof.

2 He made the horns thereof upon the four corners of it, the horns thereof were of one piece with it, and he overlaid it with bronze.

3 He made all the vessels of the altar, the pots, the shovels, the basins, the flesh-hooks, and the firepans, all the vessels thereof he made of bronze.

4 He made a grating of network of bronze for the altar, under the ledge round it beneath, reaching halfway up.

5 He cast four rings for the four ends of the grating of bronze, to be places for the staves.

6 He made the staves of acacia wood, and overlaid them with bronze.

7 He put the staves into the rings on the sides of the altar, with which to bear it, he made it hollow with planks.

22 Bezalel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Yahudah, made all Yahwah commanded Moshe.

23 With him was Oholiab, the son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan, an engraver, a skilful workman, an embroiderer in blue, in purple, in scarlet, and in fine linen.

24 All the gold that was used for the work in all the work of the sanctuary, even the gold of the offering, was twenty and nine talents, and seven hundred and thirty shekels, after the shekel of the sanctuary.

25 The silver of those who were numbered of the congregation was a hundred talents, and a thousand seven hundred and threescore and fifteen shekels, after the shekel of the sanctuary.

26 A beka a head, that is, half a shekel, after the shekel of the sanctuary, for every one that passed over to those who were numbered, from twenty years old and upward, for six hundred thousand and three thousand and five hundred and fifty men.

27 The hundred talents of silver were for casting the sockets of the sanctuary, and the sockets of the veil, a hundred sockets for the hundred talents, a talent for a socket.

28 Of the thousand seven hundred seventy and five shekels he made hooks for the pillars, and overlaid their capitals, and made fillets for them.

29 The bronze of the offering was seventy talents, and two thousand and four hundred shekels.

30 Therewith he made the sockets to the door of the tent of meeting, the brazen altar, the brazen grating for it, all the vessels of the altar,

31 the sockets of the court round about, the sockets of the gate of the court, all the pins of the tabernacle, and all the pins of the court round about.

Chapter 39

1 Of the blue, purple, and scarlet, they made finely wrought garments for ministering in the holy place, and made the holy garments for Aaron, as Yahwah commanded Moshe.

2 He made the ephod of gold, blue, purple, and scarlet, fine twined linen.

3 They beat the gold into thin plates, and cut it into wires, to work it in the blue, in the purple, in the scarlet, and in the fine linen, the work of the skilful workman.

4 They made shoulder-pieces for it, joined together; it was joined together at the two ends.

5 The skilfully woven band that was upon it, with which to gird it on, was of the same piece and like the work thereof. Of gold, of blue, purple, and scarlet, fine twined linen, as Yahwah commanded Moshe.

6 They wrought the onyx stones, inclosed in settings of gold, graven with the engravings of a signet, according to the names of the children of Yisrayah.

7 He put them on the shoulder-pieces of the ephod, to be stones of memorial for the children of Yisrayah, as Yahwah commanded Moshe.

8 He made the breastplate, the work of the skilful workman, like the work of the ephod, of gold, of blue, purple, and scarlet, fine twined linen.

9 It was foursquare, they made the breastplate double, a span was the length thereof, and a span the breadth thereof, being double.

10 They set in it four rows of stones. A row of sardius, topaz, and carbuncle was the first row;

11 the second row, an emerald, a sapphire, and a diamond;

12 the third row, a jacinth, an agate, and an amethyst;

13 and the fourth row, a beryl, an onyx, and a jaspar. They were inclosed in inclosings of gold in their settings.

14 The stones were according to the names of the children of Yisrayah, twelve, according to their names. Like the engravings of a signet, every one according to his name, for the twelve tribes.

15 They made upon the breastplate chains like cords, of wreathen work of pure gold.

16 They made two settings of gold, and two gold rings, and put the two rings on the two ends of the breastplate.

17 They put the two wreathen chains of gold in the two rings at the ends of the breastplate.

18 The other two ends of the two wreathen chains they put on the two settings, and put them on the shoulder-pieces of the ephod, in the forepart thereof.

19 They made two rings of gold, and put them upon the two ends of the breastplate, upon the edge thereof, which was toward the side of the ephod inward.

20 They made two rings of gold, and put them on the two shoulder- pieces of the ephod underneath, in the forepart thereof, close by the coupling thereof, above the skilfully woven band of the ephod.

21 They bound the breastplate by the rings thereof to the rings of the ephod with a lace of blue, that it might be upon the skilfully woven band of the ephod, and that the breastplate might not be loosed from the ephod, as Yahwah commanded Moshe.

22 He made the robe of the ephod of woven work, all of blue.

23 The hole of the robe in the midst thereof, as the hole of a coat of mail, with a binding round about the hole of it, that it should not be rent.

24 They made upon the skirts of the robe pomegranates of blue, purple, scarlet, twined linen.

25 They made bells of pure gold, and put the bells between the pomegranates upon the skirts of the robe round about, between the pomegranates.

26 A bell and a pomegranate, a bell and a pomegranate, upon the skirts of the robe round about, to minister in, as Yahwah commanded Moshe.

27 They made the coats of fine linen of woven work for Aaron, and for his sons,

28 the mitre of fine linen, the goodly head-tires of fine linen, the linen breeches of fine twined linen,

29 the girdle of fine twined linen, blue, purple, and scarlet, the work of the embroiderer, as Yahwah commanded Moshe.

30 They made the plate of the holy crown of pure gold, and wrote upon it a writing, like the engravings of a signet: HOLY TO YHWH.

31 They tied a lace of blue to it, to fasten it upon the mitre above, as Yahwah commanded Moshe.

32 Thus was finished all the work of the tabernacle of the tent of meeting. The children of Yisrayah did according to all Yahwah commanded Moshe, so they did.

33 They brought the tabernacle to Moshe, the Tent, all its furniture, its clasps, its boards, its bars, its pillars, its sockets,

34 the covering of rams' skins dyed red, and the covering of sealskins, the veil of the screen,

35 the ark of the testimony, the staves thereof, the mercy-seat,

36 the table, all the vessels thereof, the showbread,

37 the pure candlestick, the lamps thereof, even the lamps to be set in order, all the vessels thereof, the oil for the light,

38 the golden altar, the anointing oil, the sweet incense, the screen for the door of the Tent,

39 the brazen altar, its grating of bronze, its staves, all its vessels, the laver, its base,

40 the hangings of the court, its pillars, its sockets, the screen for the gate of the court, the cords thereof, the pins thereof, all the instruments of the service of the tabernacle, for the tent of meeting,

41 the finely wrought garments for ministering in the holy place, the holy garments for Aaron the priest, and the garments of his sons, to minister in the priest's office.

42 According to all Yahwah commanded Moshe, so the children of Yisrayah did all the work.

43 Moshe saw all the work. Behold, they did it. As Yahwah had commanded, even so they did it, and Moshe blessed them.

Chapter 40

1 Yahwah spoke to Moshe, saying:

2 Rear up the tabernacle of the tent of meeting on the first day of the first month.

3 Put the ark of the testimony therein, and screen the ark with the veil.

4 Bring in the table, and set in order the things that are upon it. Bring in the candlestick, and light the lamps thereof.

5 Set the golden altar for incense before the ark of the testimony, and put the screen of the door to the tabernacle.

6 Set the altar of burnt-offering before the door of the tabernacle of the tent of meeting.

7 Set the laver between the tent of meeting and the altar, and put water therein.

8 Set up the court round about, and hang up the screen of the gate of the court.

9 Take the anointing oil, anoint the tabernacle, all that is therein, hallow it, and all the furniture thereof, and it will be holy.

10 Anoint the altar of burnt-offering, all its vessels, and sanctify the altar, and the altar will be most holy.

11 Anoint the laver and its base, and sanctify it.

12 Bring Aaron and his sons to the door of the tent of meeting, and wash them with water.

13 Put the holy garments upon Aaron, anoint him, and sanctify him, that he may minister to Me in the priest's office.

14 Bring his sons, put coats upon them, and anoint them, as you anointed their father, that they may minister to Me in the priest's office. Their anointing will be to them for an everlasting priesthood throughout their generations.

16 Thus Moshe did, according to allvYahwah commanded him, so he did.

17 It came to pass in the first month in the second year, on the first day of the month, the tabernacle was reared up.

18 Moshe reared up the tabernacle, laid its sockets, set up the boards thereof, put in the bars thereof, and reared up its pillars.

19 He spread the tent over the tabernacle, and put the covering of the tent above upon it, as Yahwah commanded Moshe.

20 He took and put the testimony into the ark, set the staves on the ark, put the mercy-seat above upon the ark,

21 brought the ark into the tabernacle, set up the veil of the screen, and screened the ark of the testimony, as Yahwah commanded Moshe.

22 He put the table in the tent of meeting, upon the side of the tabernacle northward, without the veil.

23 He set the bread in order upon it before Yahwah, as Yahwah commanded Moshe.

24 He put the candlestick in the tent of meeting, over against the table, on the side of the tabernacle southward.

25 He lighted the lamps before Yahwah, as Yahwah commanded Moshe.

26 He put the golden altar in the tent of meeting before the veil,

27 and he burnt thereon incense of sweet spices, as Yahwah commanded Moshe.

28 He put the screen of the door to the tabernacle.

29 He set the altar of burnt-offering at the door of the tabernacle of

30 the tent of meeting, and offered upon it the burnt-offering and the meal-offering, as Yahwah commanded Moshe. He set the laver between the tent of meeting and the altar, and put water therein, with which to wash.

31 Moshe, Aaron, and his sons, washed their hands and their feet thereat.

32 They washed when they went into the tent of meeting, and when they came near to the altar, as Yahwah commanded Moshe.

33 He reared up the court round about the tabernacle and the altar, and set up the screen of the gate of the court. So Moshe finished the work.

34 Then the cloud covered the tent of meeting, and the glory of Yahwah filled the tabernacle.

35 Moshe was not able to enter into the tent of meeting, because the cloud abode thereon, and the glory of Yahwah filled the tabernacle.

36 When the cloud was taken up from over the tabernacle, the children of Yisrayah went onward, throughout all their journeys.

37 If the cloud was not taken up, they did not journey till the day it was taken up.

38 The cloud of Yahwah was upon the tabernacle by day, and there was fire in it by night, in the sight of all the house of Yisrayah, throughout all their journeys.
